I love how it combines all Maker passions - the hardware side, software ingenuity, radio wireless comms using digital protocols, and especially outer space tech - its a Maker tour de force.
Even something like a dedicated repeater has to address having a receiving antenna and transmitting antenna operating in close physical proximity - those industrial grade repeater installations up on mountain tops are really something - now condense that concept down into a tiny, affordable LoRa gadget - couple to a solar panel and appropriate battery, a weather proof enclosure - then spread them across the land on rooftops like a modern day Johnny Appleseed planting apple trees across a continent

At the higher ISM (900 vs. 433) frequencies, doppler shift will be a bigger issue, especially at lower apparent elevations when the path length is changing more rapidly. I wonder if the space segment receivers have any special tweaks to deal with this? I was wondering about polarization of the signal. The antenna on the satellite suggests linear polarization (simple dipole). If this is true, then won't you experience an additional loss with mis-matched polarizations - or are you using a circular polarized antenna and accepting the loss? I looked on the fossasat page for electrical design info, but didn't see anything related to this.

    • @AndreasSpiess
