Thanks Andres - you're right! I didn't know about that. Incidentally, this won't solve the problem of very soft touches not triggering the pads. It will only remap the velocity values of hits which *do* light up the pads.

Back then, there weren't any online manuals on this exact controller, and there weren't any helpful tutorials or guides explaining all the features. Awesome! Thanks for filling in the blanks that are missing from the manual. I've spent many hours scratching my head trying to work this stuff out. Wish I'd found this video six months ago.
I am blown away with this tutorial - M-Audio owe you big time as you have simplified everything so well including capturing the things that can screw you. Just subscribed to your channel so I can see what others you have.
How, when and where did you learn all this ? Brilliantly intuitive and informative vid - my only problem is that I will have to watch it about 499 more times before it all sinks in 🤣
I've had this M-Audio Oxygen for over a year now, just sitting there staring at me. I feel like I just about made up that entire year. Thank you so much!!!
extremely well done tutorial. You made my old Oxygen Blue alive. I'm realy impressed with quality of your presentation, and its really hard to point any unnecessary word within your narration. My fullest respect, you are The Man.
I have owned my Oxygen for about 2 years. It has spent half of that time in a case unused as I just could not make any sense of the manual. Thank you for your clear explanation and really wonderfully presented tutorial. Now I have a fighting chance of actually using the thing!!
This is the Best of the Best Beginner to Pro tutorial for Oxygen MIDI, I guess after this tutorial anyone will be able to get any MIDI keyboard working with any DAW. It's like understanding the Backend of MIDI and DAW communication. Thankyou for such a beautiful tutorial. I learn not only about the Oxygen MIDI but I got the complete idea of how MIDI communicates with the DAW, which I believe is the most important thing to understand i.e. the Channels, Functions, Values etc. Now I understand why MIDI manufacturers struggle with compatibility to DAWs. Thankyou ❤️🙂👍
I cannot tell you how incredibly helpful this was. Thank you! I use Reaper, and now I've got all my sliders, knobs, and pads controlling volume and track soloing. Great video!
Have just bought a M-Audio Oxygen 61 and stumbled across your video. What an incredibly well thought out and informative thing it is! Thank you so much for posting. For an old duffer (like me!), it is so helpful and easy to understand, I can't thank you enough, you have a new subscriber!
This video helps me to decide purchasing Oxygen49 4th gen for myself with a tight budget. Thank you so much for this video. Now I just have to rewatch this over and over again while learning to use the keyboard more deeply
just bought an oxygen pro 25, and while there are quite a few differences this has been _invaluable_ to understanding what the hell is going on. this is probably one of the most helpful and best edited tutorials I've ever seen.
@@adventuresincreativesoftwa6283 having a blast with it so far, the amount of customization is kind of blowing my mind right now. Been growing into it for the past 12 hours, setting my various presets and finally learning how to use midi. So far the only issue I've had is the lack of information on the thing, and the """"guide"""" is almost completely useless. So far there's been nothing resembling an actual user manual to be found, so even your guide on the older model was extremely handy, thank you!
Oh wow there's more videos! Yayy I think I'm about to get my binge learn on! I dont even have a M Audio keyboard i have a akai mpk249 and a nektar lx25+ but this video was perfect for the level of midi I'm at, I found it after watching another guy's oxygen tutorial, I might wld have liked it a little bit more in depth but that's kinda how midi works for me, if I bite off too much at once I get spun and mixed up and don't learn or gain much, so I've been just taking it a little slower.
Why can't they make more video's than this one, just in one word A W E S O M E, this video was the goal of buying this Midi Controller Keyboard with 61 keys to use. This was just what I needed to expand my arrangements for my projects with my guitar and voice. I advise strongly to buy also a usb connector hub with adapter in order to not burn up you laptop supply. With my audio midi-controller 4 ch input from behringer and the free two software programs which you receive by buying it on my laptop I am ready to start of. Thank you so much for this great tutorial.
BIG THANK you for this video that is complete, very useful. You anticipate most wondering we could have, you explain things with great teaching skills. At least it's answering all my questions, my misunderstanding. Great job and thanks again to have taken the time to do such tutorial.
I've been looking at lots of tutorials/reviews on kb controllers.. which one should I buy? Normally, there's so slow and talkative that I watch them at 1.5 to 2 x normal speed and still fall asleep - fingers, rings and wrist straps flying all over the place - most of them doing that "look at me everyone!" thing. Then I found this! So clear, fast, informative, humorous and compelling - and great use of graphic highlighting to keep me focused. I've watched it 4 or 5 times now (at normal speed), and I'm now convinced that the M-Audio Oxygen 49 is the one for me. Thank you so much for presenting this controller the way you did, and helping me select it from the mass of possibles in the market. You're a star!
Just bought one for 46$ Really excited to get it. Can't wait for it. Looks so proffessional. By the way this is gonna the first MIDI controller i am gonna have ever.
This is the gold standard in tutorials! The production values are exceptional as was the presentation. I learned more in 40 mins than I have in fiddling and playing with the Oxygen61 in 5 years! You have brought amazing value to my musical life. Many thanks...
Thanks for this Video Bro! I gave up on my oxygen 49 cause all the keys above middle C stopped playing. Just opened it up and put pencil lead to all the contacts, and its working almost like new. I only found this as needed to reverse the polarity on my sustain pedal, so glad you said not to turn it on until plugged in as that was a Fast Fix. Will save your video for sure as never really got into mapping the oxygen sliders and knobs, but maybe now I will. its my only 4 octave keyboard and I'm loving playing 88 after 55 years now. Rock on bro
Thanks for the comment, glad the video was helpful. I'll have to remember that pencil lead tip for when my own unit gets too old. So far it hasn't given me any grief... touch wood.
WOW! That was a lot of very useful and practical information. Thank you for breathing a new life into my dull Oxygen controller. I have scratched my head and long ago gave up about putting buttons on toggle/release mode. I'm glad I waited until the end of the video to find out how to do that. This's my easiest LIKE/SUB ever. Thank you!
This is so good; I wish I'd thought to look for it years ago! Struggling with the manual got me nowhere - this covered everything I wanted to do but gave up on!
I have just acquired a M-Audio Ozonic, which is an earlier MIDI controller and the first I have ever used. However, it has many similar features and controls to the Oxygen. This tutorial has been really useful in helping me to understand the Ozonic, thanks to your very knowledgeable, detailed and yet remarkably clear and thoughtful approach. The video presentation style is also highly professional and impressive. Well done and please keep up the good work.
Thanks very much for the feedback. I hadn't come across the Ozonic before... it looks like a very capable controller. I'm glad (and a little surprised) that the video was helpful, even for a different controller. All the best with your music production.
This was so perfect! Thank you! Just got my oxygen 49 yesterday. Been loving it so far, but getting a head start on all of the controls and settings verse through trial and error is great to have! P.S. The velocity curve graph you made was hilarious. When I saw "Tinkerbell > Lana Kane" I laughed so hard! Brilliant comparison!
What a great tutorial, a lot of useful information indeed! I have a dilemma, I think the latest firmware update corrupted my pitch bend wheel. My M-Audio Oxygen 49 pitch wheel is reading 84 at mid point, I have rest it to factory to no avail (due to the firmware, factory is no longer factory, and M-Audio will not supply older firmware versions.) . Is there a way to change it through the function buttons/keys to default at 64 again? Thanks in advance for any help regarding this. (I have the same model as you have.)
That's a bummer. I haven't come across it before. Does the LED display show 000 when the pitch wheel is all the way down, and 127 when all the way up? If not, then use EDIT mode to set the DATA2 and DATA3 blocks to 0 and 127, respectively. That should give you a mid point of 64. (And let us know if that works, because it looks like another commenter, Reda, had the same problem).
@@adventuresincreativesoftwa6283 Thank you for responding, once again, your tutorial is really impressive!!! When I push the wheel all the way down it reads 0 and all the way up it reads 127. It is too bad because I have to leave the wheel disengaged all of the time now. I had to buy another keyboard (different brand this time) to get pitch bend (which I use a lot) and the keys are semi weighted and terrible on the new keyboard. I love the non-weighted action of the M-Audio keyboard. M-Audio wants me to send in the keyboard. And disassembling the keyboard, this model has a newer style PB device that cannot be adjusted. If you do not have any problems with your keyboard DON'T use M-Audio's firmware updater... It is several years old and still has not been fixed to allow for older firmware updates to be reloaded. Can you post the procedure of how to set the data 2 and 3 blocks regarding the PB wheel?? Maybe if I set them to arbitrary numbers and back again it may reset the midpoint. Thx :)
@@FlockofAngels Thanks for the additional info - I will definitely stay away from firmware updates! I've pinned this thread, so hopefully it will warn others, too. It sounds like you'll need to get the unit serviced. I seriously doubt that you'll be able to fix the problem using Edit mode (but to answer your question, the video has an example of editing DATA values, at 33:30 ). Sorry to hear that you're not liking your new semi-weighted keyboard - maybe it will just take time to adjust.
I’m having the same issue which is why I’m here (learned a lot from this tutorial btw thank you). Good news for me, I never use my pitchbend wheel, but with it defaulting to random numbers (not 64) it’s messing with everything else. So my question is if I cut the wire from the wheel to the mother board will that ONLY disable the pitch bend wheel or is that a bad idea for the sake of the rest of my Oxygen49? Thank you in advance
@@sharrettwithyourfriends Unlucky for me when my pitchbend wheel defaults to a different random pitch it makes it unusable with my DAW. The keyboard is useless now... I went out and bought a non M-Audio controller.
Obviously a great amount of work went into that video! Very well done, sir! I hope M-Audio will make you some kind of offer in the future so you do more of this and actually get a little something for it.
thnk you! you are a life saver!!!!! could you please buy more controllers and do more tutorials XD you are the most comprehensive and patient mentor I've seen on youtube!!!
Finally a comprehensive explanation on how to use my M-Oxygen Midi Controller, although may need a couple of rewinds to grasp fully. But you mention software plug-ins such as Kontakt, Massive X and FM8 Native Instruments. Awesome sounds. Should these plug ins already be on my Ableton Live 10 or do they have to be purchased and downloaded on to Ableton Live. Thanks.
Wow this is gonna help me so much, bought a used one y'day. Only got into music production 3 months ago with a mpk mini but got a mpc one+ 3 weeks ago and i realy needed a bigger keyboard then the mpk mini , since i have yet to learn to play the keys. And this video gonna help me out so much understanding the keyboard. Many thanks from the netherlands
Just a perfect video - absolutely first class! I think you have given a new meaning to the word Midi. On this video it clearly stands for Most Informative Detailed Instructions. I have just cleaned my Oxygen61 ready to try all the content. All the best, Bill
Thank you so much for posting video. I was kind of lost since the manual I could get my hands on was presenting another version of the keyboard I had acquired was pretty much useless
Great video! Great presentation and great video editing too.... Thank you also for not putting some annoying music track in the background while you are talking. Tastefully done.
This is an amazing video, extremely well done and to the point. Very clear and helpful. This video should be regarded as the gold standard for tutorial videos.
Thank you very much for producing this. So much of it applies to other controllers too. The focus on M-Audio Oxygen is supremely helpful. I've got an old Alesis QX49, and the manual is shall we say 'less than helpful'. So I'm muddling through by using this vid. Perhaps I'll save up for one of the oxygen pros. :) :)
Congratulations with an excellent tutorial in a nice calming voice. I am considering buying the M-Audio Oxygen 25 and thanks to your video, I have now made up my mind to go ahead with the purchase. :)
That's fantastic - I'm sure you won't regret it. I've owned several Oxygen controllers, over the years, and have gotten so much great use out of them. Enjoy your new hardware!
This is an excellent explanatory video. Thank you. I would never have understood what was going on on my Oxygen otherwise! The user guide tells me next to nowt! :D
Excellent tutorial! Thanks. However - my new OXYGEN49 is obviously a different model - no EDIT button, no C numbers, different display items (ARP CHORD SCALE), record button is black, and other differences - apparently mine is the (MKV) model ? I've learned much from this video, but I can't apply much of it directly. The manual is of minimal use. Hope to find similar tutorials for my model. I'll share here if I do.
Yeah this sold me on this keyboard. I had concerns there might be a learning curve but I'll just watch this video a second time. Great job on the order, graphics and especially your own tips and opinions. Nice one!

I've been using my Oxygen 25 for about a year now and boy have I been wasting its potential. Thanks a ton for this video!
Obviously a great amount of work went into that video! Very well done, sir! I hope M-Audio will make you some kind of offer in the future so you do more of this and actually get a little something for it.
Thanks, Mr.E - good of you to say.
Waaaaay better than guessing what the manual says! Thanks!!!
Great video. You seemed to cover all of the options. I feel much more confident in selecting the M-Audio Oxygen controller for my project.
This is the BEST video on RUclips
Excellent tutorial. Very clear, straightforward, concise and informative. I look forward to using my Oxygen 49 with less trepidation!
thnk you! you are a life saver!!!!! could you please buy more controllers and do more tutorials XD you are the most comprehensive and patient mentor I've seen on youtube!!!
you are a god amost men my device has never had so little dust on it in years thank you
Finally a comprehensive explanation on how to use my M-Oxygen Midi Controller, although may need a couple of rewinds to grasp fully. But you mention software plug-ins such as Kontakt, Massive X and FM8 Native Instruments. Awesome sounds. Should these plug ins already be on my Ableton Live 10 or do they have to be purchased and downloaded on to Ableton Live. Thanks.
They're separate plugins, from a company called Native Instruments.
Thank you for this valuable service you have provided for free!
Welcome to expensive world of Gear Aquisition! 🙂
Just a perfect video - absolutely first class! I think you have given a new meaning to the word Midi. On this video it clearly stands for Most Informative Detailed Instructions. I have just cleaned my Oxygen61 ready to try all the content. All the best, Bill
Thank you so much for posting video. I was kind of lost since the manual I could get my hands on was presenting another version of the keyboard I had acquired was pretty much useless
amazing work, M-Audio should pay you a lot for that ;) Thanks for posting
YOU SAVED ME! THANK YOU, I WAS STUCK LIKE CAPS LOCKS
Great video! Great presentation and great video editing too.... Thank you also for not putting some annoying music track in the background while you are talking.
Tastefully done.
This is an amazing video, extremely well done and to the point. Very clear and helpful. This video should be regarded as the gold standard for tutorial videos.
Super helpful video. Very well done as well. Congratulations and thank you.
Thanks a lot for all the information. I bought the Oxigen 61 but I was finding very difficult to program until now ! Cheers mate ! :D
This content is high class gold. Than you so much. Great video.
The effort of making this video! Thank you it really told me how much I can do with a midi keyboard I have had for over a year now.
Great tutorial, hope to see more.
Hey thanks for the feedback. Yes, there are definitely more videos in the pipeline...
Excellent! This is the best explanation of what is going on with MIDI's. Thanks.
Extremely helpful! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video.
I was lost until this video. thank you, thank you, thank you. Can't say thank you enough.
Thanks for mentioning it. Glad it was helpful for someone.
M-Audio needs to do a video detailing every function as well as examples of how the presets function 1-7 , the buttons, all of it
I wish you were making tutorials of everything I wanted to learn about.
Thank you so much. I've just purchased an Oxygen 49 based on what I learned from your video.
Congrats! I hope you get lots of great use from it. And thanks for the feedback.
What an amazingly helpful video... THANK YOU!
This is an excellent explanatory video. Thank you. I would never have understood what was going on on my Oxygen otherwise! The user guide tells me next to nowt! :D
Thank you so much!!! Amazingly done, and very easy to watch! I learned a lot, and I giggled from time to time. Time for that Long Island tea, I guess.
Wow, you watched all the way through, and even read the messages at the end - I'm impressed! Thanks for the feedback.
The best tutorial ever!!
You are a genius, Love from India 🇮🇳❤️
Such a great tutorial. Well made. Thank you.
This video is gonna sell many oxygen keyboards.
Great tutorial buddy
Excellent tutorial! Thanks. However - my new OXYGEN49 is obviously a different model - no EDIT button, no C numbers, different display items (ARP CHORD SCALE), record button is black, and other differences - apparently mine is the (MKV) model ? I've learned much from this video, but I can't apply much of it directly. The manual is of minimal use. Hope to find similar tutorials for my model. I'll share here if I do.
Very well done. Quite the tutorial. 👏🏽 👏🏽 👏🏽 thank you.
Great tutorial. I was going mad trying to figure this out after buying the 61 key version. I was missing the store function (doh). Many thanks.
Yeah, plenty of people miss that, and keep losing their edits. It's one of the reasons I decided to make this video.
Can you make us a video about m-audio oxygen 61 mk5?
Thanks very much
Amazing video!! Now I have a clearer understanding on how to configure my Oxygen keyboard... thanks a lot, one more subscription.. ;). keep on going!
This legend is so underrated. 💕💞💖
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Highly appreciate you hard work to make such video. Bravo.. it really really helps.. thank you
Yeah this sold me on this keyboard. I had concerns there might be a learning curve but I'll just watch this video a second time. Great job on the order, graphics and especially your own tips and opinions. Nice one!
Thanks for the feedback, and all the best with your new purchase, I'm sure you won't regret it.
really grateful for this
That's great! You should have been hired by M Audio. We cannot understand the manual. You are very technical...
I agree that the manual can be pretty hard to fathom!
@@adventuresincreativesoftwa6283Can u please tell if it is possible to make light show with this controller with pad triggers just like novation using Ableton ?
@@prasadsjoyofmusic Unfortunately there's no way to customize the Drum Pads on the Oxygen (other than shifting their pitch).
Thanks for making this video. Ive dealt with far more technical things than this keyboard but theres just something about the manual and auto mode that really threw me.
