Avatar: The Last Airbender (commonly abbreviated as ATLA), also known as Avatar: The Legend of Aang in some regions, or simply Avatar or The Last Airbender, is an American animated fantasy action television series created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko and produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studio.
Avatar is set in an Asiatic-inspired world in which some people can telekinetically manipulate one of the four elements-water, earth, fire or air-through practices known as "bending", inspired by Chinese martial arts. The only individual who can bend all four elements, the "Avatar", is responsible for maintaining harmony among the world's four nations, and serves as the link between the physical world and the spirit world. The series is centered around the journey of twelve-year-old Aang, the current Avatar and last survivor of his nation, the Air Nomads, along with his friends Katara, Sokka, and Toph, as they strive to end the Fire Nation's war against the other nations and defeat Fire Lord Ozai before he conquers the world. It also follows the story of Zuko-the exiled prince of the Fire Nation, seeking to restore his lost honor by capturing Aang, accompanied by his uncle Iroh-and later, his sister Azula. Avatar is presented in a style that combines anime with American cartoons and relies on the imagery of primarily Chinese culture, with some other East Asian, Southeast Asian, South Asian, New World, Siberian, and Arctic influences.
Avatar: The Last Airbender was a ratings success and received acclaim from critics for its characters, cultural references, art direction, voice acting, soundtrack, humor, and themes. These include concepts rarely touched on in youth entertainment, including war, genocide, imperialism, totalitarianism, indoctrination and free choice. It won five Annie Awards, a Genesis Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, a Kids' Choice Award, and a Peabody Award. The show is regarded by many critics as one of the greatest animated television series of all time.
Avatar aired on Nickelodeon for three seasons, from February 2005 to July 2008. The extended Avatar franchise includes an ongoing comics series, a prequel novel series, an animated sequel series, and a live-action film, as well as an upcoming live-action remake series produced for Netflix. The complete series was released on Blu-ray in June 2018 in honor of the tenth anniversary of its finale and was made available to stream on Netflix in the United States and Canada in May 2020, on Paramount+ in June 2020, and on Amazon Prime Video in January 2021.

Katara's face when Aang gets killed will never not hurt me. Just like her mother, she saw another close person die in front of her again. People really need to give Katara more credit. Not only did she resurrect him, she single-handedly restored the entire Avatar cycle.
Plus she loves aang she was heartbroken to see her crush get shot out of the sky.
@@erikhantariq1913 her crush? It's a bit of a stretch to say that he was her crush when they weren't even a couple and Katara didn't seem to feel the same way, at least not at that time. She was worried to death because Aang was the only hope the world had, without him, the war was lost and obviously, he was also her best friend.
No she didn't. The cycle was literally broken. Aang didn't get any avatar powers back until.....well you know when. But anyway. I'll just leave it at that so not to inadvertently drop spoilers.

Zuko's betrayal, as frustrating as it is, makes sense when you look at it like this: he was a drug addict and his drug was his "honor." He tried to resist it and let go of it, yet all it took was Azula giving him even just a glimpse of it to make him relapse.
People get frustrated at the second season of Good Omens for a very similar reason, it’s a similar situation where a character is welcomed back into a group that previously caused him and his friends harm but he has been craving that acceptance all along and caves in despite growing in spite of them. It’s easy to get mad at them, but it’s a very human reaction!

@@sp0ngeb00b7I'm shocked anyone was ever angry at Aziraphale. He wasn't just promised acceptance (most of the acceptance was always centered around Gabriel who is now definitely approving but also out the Heaven picture), he agreed to go, believing that he could make Crowley into his former happy self AND make Heaven into the image he had of it all along, the ideal state, and therefore helping all of existence. Losing the Crowley aspect of it soured the deal visibly and he didn't really have the time or the mindset to change his mind and stay, but he'd probably still go because he can still save All But One even if that One was the most important to him. We won't know if Aziraphale's decision was bad until next season.
This isn't me saying I was angry at Crowley, btw. I of course just wanted to see them live happily ever after in a cottage in the South Downs, and that means my side in the argument is firmly with Crowleym
I know they didn't win, but Katara held it down. She was a beast this episode.
Just to clear up some questions. Azula literally killed Aang with that strike. All the spirit water did was bring his body back. The avatar state on the other hand...........not so much.
So how come we're still getting new Avatars later on?

Bringing him back did restore the avatar state and all his predecessors, the wound just blocked the flow of energy between his chakras. When he sealed himself up to meditate he opened up the last one.
@@vanyadolly it literally took a gift and a near death experience to get the avatar state back. Katara brought him back just barely enough to keep the spirit from moving on to the next, but severed his connection with it entirely
Zuko’s choice was the biggest shock. I remember being so stunned and heartbroken first time I saw it.
so to clear some stuff up; letting go of attachment is not the same thing as not loving somebody. you mentioned jedi, which is exactly parallel. something anakin didnt understand (and to be fair, never had this really explained to him) was that just because you have to let go of this attachment, doesnt mean you have to be cold and unfeeling. the most powerful jedi understood this. the letting go part is just like you said, if youre afraid of losing the one you love, you may lose control. you can have love, but growing too attached can cause you to make selfish decisions (like murdering a room full of children (anakin))

The only wrong part is that this was explained to Anakin. Not only does Anakin himself say that compassion is essential to a Jedi’s life but Obi Wan tells Anakin having feelings for people is natural and not forbidden.

There's also a short comic that tells the story of Katara healing him for *weeks* after the attack, while they're running away from the Fire Nation. It says that she keeps healing him but he doesn't seem to improve or at least wake up, and with no other healers to consult she doesn't even know if her skills are enough.

To be fair, that's mostly propaganda. The camps exist but they are education not labor. The Chinese government is trying to combat Islamic radicalism by giving job training and setting them up with stable jobs, and invested in society, rather than being impoverished and recruited into a terrorist group.
Uyghurs weren't even subject to the one child policy, they could have as many kids as they wanted while the Han majority shrank.

this what makes me appreciate zuko even more, by him betraying iroh. some bad guys didn't just change into good guy in one night, it's not realistic, it's not how healing works. he did have so many traumas and grew up in the most toxic non-functional family with no one take care of him except his uncle. he somewhat looks like a dru9 addict or someone who in a toxic relationship that can't just escape when they want to. they make zuko character's development more relatable and human.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood... Start there. At least it has limited episodes unlike Naruto or One Piece

Book 3 is amazing. It literally only gets better from here. And yes, you should definitely watch some more anime. If you like the clean action scenes in this, you'll love some shows like jujutsu kaisen, demon slayer, my hero academia, etc. Would love to see some more anime on this channel!
Okay so this isn’t a spoiler, but it can be confusing to understand what “Aang getting hit by lightning” meant.
First, some background info, Aang not accepting of letting Katara go locked the avatar state until he reopens the chakra, which he did at the end. He doesn’t need to let her go literally but emotionally, he needs to accept that in the grand schemes of things, love is insignificant, as all other earthly attachment. Regardless of love, the universe and cosmos will continue to expand, create and destroy, as is all nature of things. To control the avatar state he must learn to accept the cosmic energies by maintaining a state of peace and tranquility within and ascend to a state of enlightenment, and give himself completely to the natural order of the cosmos.
After getting hit by Azula, Aang did die, due to Azulas lightning. He got hit cuz Azula didn’t wait for her enemy to fully transform (Jokes aside, no clear reasoning here, Azula just decided to get real here and not follow the rules of engagement as usual cartoons do)
By Aang dying in the state, he is no longer able to enter the avatar state, dying in the avatar state, as mentioned before, destroys the spiritual connection to previous avatars, as well as breaks the avatar cycle. Aang was brought to life thanks to the spirit waters but any form of death moving forward will NOT result in reincarnation. The Avatar will simply cease to exist.
Unrelated note: Jet is heavily implied to be dead, Kataras mom is heavily implied to also be dead

A lot of people including me got frustrated with Zuko in this episode, but when you really think about it it makes sense that he would side with Azula, what he was chasing for years was served right in front of him on a platter

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood(great for beginners) Cowboy Bebop, Steins Gate and Naruto are all good
This season finale. This season finale CHANGED me. We’re laughing at Melo for holding out for Zuko to turn on Azula, but every single one of us watching this when it first aired were in that exact same mindset. We know NOW how it plays out, but at the time? Oh my god, it was and still is one of the best character arc twists of all time.
Azula would honestly be my favourite character. She is such a good villain. 🖤💅🏻 I also love expansion on her story in the comics.

The interesting thing I think, is that this description of opening chakras is actually insanely accurate and well described. Meditation and self reflection are definitely used to open the blocked pools of swirling energy in your body (which are chakras) so that the energy can flow freely.

Just to clear up some things:
Aang did die. There are levels to medical death:
Clinical death: Heart stops or breathing stops or both. You are technically dead. Start CPR and have someone call 911. This is possibly reversible. You have 4-6 minutes before the brain dies-longer in very cold climates.
Biological death: Brain death. You are dead dead and you cannot be revived except maybe magic.
Looking at the entry and exit wounds there is no way the lightning didn't kill him. Katara was able to heal him enough with the special water so that he was barely alive but in a coma.
Jet died. Katara knew she couldn't help, and Toph knew he was lying about being okay.
Katara straight up tried to kill Azula with the water slice attack but only managed to cut her hair. That was as much a death strike as when Suki tried to plunge her sword into Azula's chest in Appa's Lost Days episode. Avatar hid a lot of the adult stuff from kids, but we parents knew what was going on.
Aang letting Katara "go" doesn't mean he can't love her. It just means he has to let go of all earthly attachments to receive enlightenment. Only then can he obtain cosmic power. His loyalties have to be for the balance of his world. It must supersede his affection for any nation or individual. We've already seen how the Earth Kingdom is messed up. It's not just the Fire Nation that is out of balance. Aang needs to fix it all.
The Dai Li didn't betray Ba Singe Sa. In fact, they are loyal only to the city. That means they will side with any faction that helps ensure the city even if that now means working with the Fire Nation. Honestly, I suspect they had secretly been working with the Fire Nation, and that's why they survived so long.
Just my thoughts.
"Loyal only to the city". That's a way to put it, I always saw them as only loyal to themselves.

One Punch Man is great beginner anime. INCREDIBLE fights and animation, great humor. Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood is probably top 3 best anime ever created. about equally as long as avatar. Those are very easy jumping off points into the world of anime. highly recommend.

Netflix' numbering of the episode is kinda wacky since they decided to edit some stuff together into single episodes etc. but generally all 3 books have about 20-21 episodes.

Book two is up there with the Empire Strikes Back. When I watched the book 2 finale when it first aired, i was screaming at the tv/so upset with Zuko and freaking out when Aang (basically) died
For some reason it seems like a lot of anime fans sleep on "attack on Titan" (maybe because its more mainstream?). But I cant recommend it enough, its incredible on every level
For an anime recommendation, it's gotta be Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. It'll rip your heart out but man is it a hell of a ride.

For my #1 anime recommendation I’d recommend Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood (Make sure it is brotherhood, that version is my favorite and the better one imo). Since you asked, my first ever anime that I watched because I said the same thing as you I want to watch anime after I watched Avatar was Fullmetal alchemist: brotherhood. I have watched it six times now because it is my favorite show of all time not just anime it is pure perfection and I cannot recommend it more highly

I love how you're enjoying the show. Season 1 took time to let us get to know the main characters, but Season 2 put them under immense pressure. Also, if you're looking to watch more anime, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is one of the best of all time. There's two animes but only Brotherhood follows the manga and the manga is incredible and concise.

just some information with episode numbers in season 2. You tend to see this often due to syndication. There's basically a certain number of episodes that need to be aired for a television program to be syndicated which is why we so often will see a show with 24 episodes in it's first season and then season 2 only having 18 or 20.
Another great reaction mell can't wait for you to watch season three its my favourite. In terms of anime recommendations i have a few lol TOKYO GHOUL, ATTACK ON TITAN, NURA RISE OF THE YOKIA CLAN, DEATH NOTE, BEASTARS just to name a few 😅❤

Hey mello, just a thought bout ya intro, avatar the last airbender was for a lot of folks (myself included) something we watched as kids and think very fondly of, I've watched the series about easily about 20 times since it's been on Netflix, every time you rewatch it you notice extra details and connect dots that as a first time viewer you just simply don't know, so fudge whatever you miss, don't pay those people no mind, we all missed things our first time watching the show, I'm just happy your enjoying it so far, because it is so brilliant, and I know off camera your going to watch it over again because oah....its just THAT great hahaha, Love you man

this show really reminds me a lot of the star wars original trilogy where book 1 is a new hope, book 2 is empire strikes back, and book 3 is return of the jedi. i think its because the director of this was dave filoni who is a massive star wars fan and now is the chief creative officer (i think) for lucasfilm.

Watching the show while airing and seeing this finally and HAVING TO WAIT for Season 3 after this amazing conclusion to Book 2 was such a pain. As happy as I am people can binge this show at their own pace, that feeling is something I wish people could experience again, because oh the hype, it lives up to it!
For anime, my favorite right now is Welcome to Demon School, Iruma! A kid gets sold by his parents to a demon, and the demon adopts him as his grandson and sends him to a demon school. There are 3 seasons, and there's still no word for season 4

Jet got fatally injured by Long Fengs attack and Longshot "helped him from suffering" with his bow. But that was too dark for Nickalodeon so they slightly changed thet momment.
