  • Component replacement begins. In this video, we also do a small tutorial on how to remove components from a tube socket without damaging the socket pins. It is a time-consuming process, but if done properly, you can make it almost look like original.

    I have a desoldering gun but solder wick dipped in flux works great with a soldering iron.

    You should have asked the seller to show a video of the radio working by posting the video on here for all to see. One I endedup with has a oscillator coil that's all burned up.

    Did you install a Saftey suppression cap on the AC line in to the radio?

    If you bought from our favorite auction site, other sellers would call non working models "minty fresh".

    Not sure why you'd be surprised those wax and paper caps would need replacing- if original, which they likely are, they are almost 70 years old.

      Not surprised at all. I always replace them on this vintage of equipment. Paper and wax capacitors fail a lot. What did surprise me was that this was advertised as working on all bands. In those cases, the radio will at least make some static.
