Barbara, your 'bead-strand' closure is perfect!...and beautiful.💗 It gives this understated journal the perfect "low-key"/chillin' out, boho vibe. "Boho" doesn't always have to be "over-the-top". Relaxed and breezy is stunning, imo.😉 Tyfs.💙💙💙

I love this journal and love watching you make them. It's fun to see what different kinds of pages you use in yours. I agree sometimes I get my journals out and look through them for some ideas when my creative juices just aren't flowing. I really enjoy these questions and answers!!

Your answer to Sabrina’s question is so true. Ive also found just jumping in and playing or even organizing is key. It never fails, when I go in to tediously clear and put away things on my desk, I’m going to come across something that I just can NOT put away and have to play with right then. That leads to me sitting down with a journal or a blank page and placing the found item, which leads to a next step and a next until I’m finished or have to get to responsibilities. As adults, it can be so easy to not let ourselves play. But it’s just as important for us to play as it was when we were children, and though we don’t need to afford ourselves as much time to play as when we were children, we do need to afford ourselves at least a little bit of time each day.

What a beautiful journal! Thank you for being random with the time you put it up. At least it will give me a chance, even if it’s small! Internationally is difficult sure. I love your journals so much and do hope one day I will be able to hold and cherish one of your special treasures! Hugs 🤗❤️

RE not wanting to work in the journal. I made myself a rather large journal with a fabric cover. I made it specifically to add new ideas as I went along. So I put it down to go on to new projects. Its whole purpose is to add more over time. I recently worked on a collaboration in that book. Still plenty of room to add more whenever. It doesn't even have a topper yet. Lovely journal, Barbara!!

Hi!! I really, really think that journal is beautiful. It's ok to let go, and I'm sure who ever buys your journal will love it as much as you do. Sharing your journals will give others many moments of happiness, and that is a gift far greater than keeping them on a shelf. 🤗🤗

Oh my! My heart skipped a beat when I heard “my name”. Thanks for answering my question. I felt like I won the lottery to have my questions being picked among so many other great ones. You are absolutely right, I do LOVE making journals, even if it is just to sit on a shelf or to be given as special gifts. I thought I was the only one who felt that way. Thanks Barbara! You also inspired me to try a journal with different themes, such as your planner. It will give me the excuse to make another journal 😂😂😂 and I will keep making them until I find the sweet spot ❤ Thanks again. Love your channel and truly enjoy the work you do and your artistic aesthetics.

I have to agree with the other responses! I haven’t made a book in over a year and I began feeling frustrated and guilty. Your advice is dead on accurate!! A few weeks ago, I looked at my old books and it helped me picked up the book I abandoned after putting together signatures. I ditched all my previous ideas and restarted without any second guesses. I’m happily moving forward! ❤️

Wow! This journal is really beautiful! 🤩 I mean, all your work is, but this one! Who ever buys it will have a treasure.
RE creative funk... when I participated in Junk Journal January and din't know what to create for a certain prompt, I usually watched Megs video just to spark my creativity. I didn't create what she did, but it got my 'wheels turning'. So, I do find watching your, Luise and the other creators I watch, helpful. 😊 But, never to copy, just to be inspired and create something that is me.

When I've been stuck in "No-Idea-Land", I browse magazines and cut out sections of design or color that appeals to me-----a bedspread, a full skirt, a flower garden or a bowl of exotic fruit. I might spend an hour doing this but it's not wasted energy. Then I glue them onto used sheets of copy paper & when it's dry I put them all in a manilla folder to use for punching. This gives me endless designs for punching out butterflies, circles and tags. and it's a low- key method of prompting creativity.

Great journal and Q&A. I appreciate hearing other people's questions? I usually have the same issues but always feel like I'm new and the only one that thinks like that! It's nice to know that some people make journals to make journals and others make ephemera to make ephemera!
And now that I've heard the Q&A session, I have a question: do you have a video on how you made the string tie for the denim journal? I have beads, charms, buttons and a "boatload" of crochet thread if that works but I love the look of yours. 😍😍😍

Thanks for always being inspirational, Barbara! Your feelings toward your completed journals (being "done" with them, even if you have not worked it them)...reminds me of my feeling about eating my own cooking! I enjoy food cooked by others, which is often not really as much to my own taste, but I enjoy eating it because I'm not "tired of looking at it"!

Bob the Beetle!! hehehe That will be a lovely journal for whoever gets the chance to buy it when you post it to your shop! 💜
Also, in regards to the losing your mojo - I also find just moving my hands and doing something helps. Even if it's something as simple and boring as prepping background pages, or fussy cutting images like you said. Just moving my hands helps, and not having a particular goal or end thing in mind - no added pressure!

Oh my gosh, the conversation about not working in your journals that you make was so helpful! I have not been making many because of that and feeling guilty that I have some but not doing anything with them. It’s so fun making them, lol. Why do we feel we need permission to just create them? Thanks for your Q and A session.

I am returning to the topic of ways of convenient keeping masks and stencils. i really like today's Treasure Books channel's episode (13 Things to Make with Flat Plastic Packaging). Easy-to-open-and-close DIY transparent pouches with velcro closures might be fun to make, to use and to show us. No? Several fragments of clear plastic packaging could be sewn together to make whatever small/large size is needed. Adding tabs with labels to these pooches and keeping them upright (with dividers) will help ease of retrieving or depositing back.

There are no absolutes in junk journalling. (Elastic breaks, just buy a new one.) Im on my 9th journal. This is for 5 signatures, but now not. Too bulky. The finished signatures dictate the cover. That's how I do. I appreciate your attempts at answering questions, Barbara that you really couldn't..😅. There is only our experience, there are no right or wrong attempts at junk journalling. We learn as we play, immerse into the moment, experiment, just escape to our craft rooms!! Tutorials are suggestions, I deviate if I want to. No junk journal police here!!!!😅 ( I made an accordion journal after watching you. Is it great? No, it's super grungy and ITS junk!! But I love it and did it my way!😂❤)

Interesting questions. Re the block regarding working in some journals issue, I think part of it may be that when you create a journal in a specific theme you then feel pressured to create within that theme & keep creating bigger & better ideas within that theme. But since you prefer to create when & what you feel like on the day, that makes it feel like a bit of a school or work assignment that has limits set on it. As soon as you set limits or expectations, particularly when you’re a perfectionist, it creates stress, so you naturally avoid that stress by not wanting to work in it. Also, some people find their happy place by learning to do something well & recreating that or building on that theme. Which is why some people have an unmistakable style. Others like myself, Barbara & Luise, like the challenge of variety & new techniques/mediums etc. So when we create something, we don’t want to be stuck doing the same thing, but like to move on to the next challenge or project. Then it’s hard to come back to a project with a specific style or theme, because you still want to fit the new stuff within that old style or theme which takes more conscious effort.
As to enjoying buying & working in something someone else made - you’re making it your own. And different people enjoy different aspects of junk journalling. Tbh I just love making pages with different techniques. It’s like Gelli printing. I love it but actually using the pieces is a whole different matter lol. I really am thinking about creating packs of collage fodder, with Gelli printed, water coloured, painted, textured, stencilled etc pages & scraps to see if anyone is interested in buying them. I love the idea of junk journals. Love the look of many of them, but I just keep creating stuff to go in them 🤷‍♀️
