    The dimensions of object can be annotated with dimension lines, or you can go to the Properties Palette to see info about any selected object.

    A shortcut to the cross braces for the legs would be to select the face, to which the braces are connected, and draw a line from the midpoint, at the bottom of one leg, to the midpoint at the bottom of the opposite leg. Then, stretch one end of the line up 12". Mirror that brace and draw your circles at the endpoints and sweep them.
    I know everyone has their own drawing style though.

    Type in "units" or "UN" or go to the Application Button and Drawing Utilites, then Units. Select Architectural.

  • @BrookeGodfrey
    @BrookeGodfrey  11 лет назад +1

    Yes, I believe that should be correct.

  • @BrookeGodfrey
    @BrookeGodfrey  11 лет назад

    Well, when you use inches odds are good that it will look small initially if you're zoomed out. When you use inches, you don't need to type anything else in - for example, if you want 5 inches, you can just type 5, or 5" if you want to be safe. If you do feet, then you would type 5'. If you're breaking the measurement down further, it would be something like 5'6-1/2" and so on.

    There are many reasons that something like that might happen. Check your UCS, if that's 'off' you won't be able to move things in the direction you want. Also check your object snap settings, sometimes that can cause trouble too.

  • @BrookeGodfrey
    @BrookeGodfrey  11 лет назад

    Good question. Generally when something is 3D I put materials on objects...so I'm not quite sure about the hatching option exactly. My guess is no, although I might be very wrong about that. My best suggestion is to put materials on your objects, which are under the Rendering options.

    Create template file with the layers that you use. When you want something to draw, simply open that file and draw. When you finish click on "Save as" and save that with new name.
    Ili na hrvatski :D za susjedu. jednostavno kreiraš jedan autocad .dwg fajl i u njemu kreiraj sve layere koje koristis. Spremi taj file i ostavi ga negdje na desktopu. Sledeci put kada zelis crtati,otvori taj fajl i crtaj u njemu ali kada zelis spremiti klikni na save as umjesto na "save.Da bi ostao templejt prazan.

    These furniture models are based on typical modern designs, so I have a vague idea of the measurements before I get started. Sometimes I have to make them up to get things to work out since I don't have the actual plans to work from.

    Just saw this...and yes, you are getting surfaces. You need to JOIN the lines together into a POLYLINE to get a solid. :)

  • @BrookeGodfrey
    @BrookeGodfrey  11 лет назад

    I suspect you need to modify your Object Snap settings. Right click on the Object Snap button at the bottom and select Midpoint. That should help. If you're still struggling, a simple guideline/construction line is helpful. Then you can delete it when you're done with the mirror command.

    Thanks! Agreed, SketchUp rocks! It's super easy to learn, far less painful.
    These videos are review material for classes I teach; they're intended to cover very basic concepts of 3D modeling before we move on to more complicated topics.

    because the subtract did not work, explode the array first, then do subtract, select the post first then enter and then select the cylinders one by one then enter, to check click conceptual view, it should be all white now

    I believe that I just used acad and changed the units to architectural. You could also open an architectural template and skip that step. It shouldn't matter too much. Often the templates deal more with the printing aspects than modeling.

  • @MrRandomYTuser

    I like your voice :)
    On topic, autocad is a way to complicated version of Google SketchUp. It's like using a console vs using a visual interface :)
    I understand it's use, in actual important designs (like factory components, engine parts and such), but a desk like that is done in no time in sketchup.
    Anyway, thanks for posting the clip!

  • @BrookeGodfrey
    @BrookeGodfrey  11 лет назад

    Hmm. I'm not quite sure what happened there. My first guess is that it has something to do with constraints. Check the parametric tab - make sure the constraints aren't on.

    Hello Brooke! One quick question...On side panel of the desk 13:10 how did u align the third polyline right before u closed it? I noticed part of it was dashed towards aligning it...is there a setting for that? Thanks! Great Video by the way.

      Use Object Snap Tracking - you can turn it on in the Tray at the bottom of the screen.

  • @BrookeGodfrey
    @BrookeGodfrey  11 лет назад

    I think you are probably getting surfaces, not solids. Is that correct? If so, you have to make sure to JOIN the lines together before you extrude. If you don't, you'll get surfaces, which can look like tall lines because they have no thickness. I believe that's the trouble your having...

    Hello.
    Just a quick question.
    How do I get my measurements to the proper scale? When I set my units to inches and type in the lengths in the command, I get a very small rectangle that isn't anywhere near as large as the one in the tutorial. I even added an extra digit and went 600 by 280 and it still didn't measure up.
