This is an awesome consolation prize in lieu of not having automatic headlights (on a 2023 vehicle!!). At least I can run them on all the time and not have not have to adjust dash brightness for day/night. Before this, i would always need to flip at least one switch.
Thanks for the video and explanation. I have a 2015 4Runner Limited and can verify that it came from the factory with this auto dimmer switch that you installed on your TRD OR Premium.
This is interesting. I also think it's ridiculous that a $50k vehicle doesn't come standard with automatic headlights. To add onto your video, do you think replacing the ORP headlight stalk with a Limited/Pro stalk (with the auto selection) on the steering column would give the vehicle auto on/off headlights? Thanks
If you ask me, they should all be dummy plugs! Going by the lake, sunlight comes in and out with the trees. Dash and radio flashing bright and dim every second or so driving me nutso!
@@MarkMollat I appreciate your reply. The light sensor works great. With the light switch permanently set to the "On" position, there is very quick response / change to light and dark input. The dash lights and the radio head unit dim flawlessly. Unfortunately, the clock does not dim.
It's kind of ridiculous that they don't all come with this. I have a base model 09 Pontiac Vibe (re-badged Toyota Matrix) and it has the exact same light sensor in the middle of the dash. Auto headlights are just a good safety feature.
No, this will not get you auto headlights. Unless you have a TRD Pro or Limited, you don't have auto headlights. This mod is only so that it doesn't dim your cluster/headunit during the day when you are running your headlights. For example, if it's raining during the day, you turn on your headlights for safety, you can still see your radio display no problem.
Can this sensor be wired for auto-headlights to work? I understand, you will need to swap with a light-stalk from the Limited or Pro. Have you explored that by any chance?
You don’t need to have the auto switch for this mod. Also, I don’t think it’s as easy as just replacing the switch. Many people have looked into this in the forums and have come up short.
I’m not sure if there are any differences with the 2022. Maybe see if they have already included it? Otherwise, I can’t see why this wouldn’t work with a 2022.
From personal experience, the part number in this video is NOT the correct part for 2020+ 4runner. I ordered it and it's not the same. Toyota changed the pin configuration. The correct part number for 2020+ 4runners is: 89121-30020. And unfortunately, Toyota also decided to charge $100+ for this part
FYI, I have 2020 4runner TRD Off-Road. This does not fit. The 2020 plug harness has the 4 pins in parallel. Previous looks like they're in 2X2 pin pattern. So this does not plug in. Had to return it. In search for part number for 2020 4runner
@@joshmauro8463 that part number is incorrect. That's the part I ended up returning. I believe the current replacement part number for the 2020 4runner is: 891210E060. over $100! I'll wait for the knockoff.
@Dat Mauro is correct. The 2020 and new 4Runners use a 4 pin sensor and not 6 like the old one. The 89121-0E060 is the correct part number. Best price right now is $125.
I just spin the light dimmer wheel one click down when it's dark outside... On the dash to the left of the steering wheel... Nice to know though thanks man
That isn’t what this sensor is for… it’s so you can drive with your lights on during the day and still have a full lit dash and screen. Thanks for letting us know about the dimmer switch though man.

Unfortunately, no. Someone on the forums tried this and didn’t work. I think you’d have to get the ecu reprogrammed.

Thanks for the link, otherwise they want$140 at rock auto got it for my 2007 Matrix
Great video! Does this mod also brighten and dim the clock? Or just the dash and radio?
I believe it does

Great video. It's been about 3 years since you made this video, have you had any problems? Thanks
No problems. Simple and quick
My 2014 didn't have a wire connected to the plug... unless it got disconnected and dropped into my dash

do the headlights come on automictically also when it's dark and what is the setting for the auto lights?

What year is your 4runner. Someone is telling me that because my 4runner is a 2022 that I will have to buy a $50 dollar sensor.
I have a 2019. I believe the 2022s are different.
2021 used different sensor
What is that phone mount you use?
Its a magnet mount which works with the ram mounts.
Any link for a 2022 4Runner?
