    I totally made my first ever batch today using your method and they turned out awesome! I used butter instead of olive oil and it gave them a really nice buttery flavor! Thanks for the video! It worked perfectly!

    That's cool I was just messing with ya! Anyways thanks for the boiling tip....I just dried mine out and popped them in the oven...and on my tip...I just mixed all my seeds in a bowl with EVOO and seasonings so they were all coated and poured the bowl in the pan! My flavor preference is....Seasoned salt and Chili Powder....Ohh... and they got ate up the fist day! Cheers!

    this brings back memories. my mom used to do this when it was close to halloween. she would always use either cinnamon or season salt when she did this. when i got older and i did this i tried doing a hot and spicy version and it turned out great.

    Boiling: You can boil the seeds in 1 quart of salted water for 10 minutes, drain them in the colander and leave them until they are cool enough to touch. Now you can grab the seed by the narrow end and squeeze it between your thumb and index finger, the seed should pop out of the hull fairly easily.
    Roasted: I've never tried this, but you could try, very gently, using a wooden mallet on the roasted seeds, hitting them hard enough to break the hull but not the seed.

    This process is basically how i make mine but i generally just use plain salt , i love true elements raw pumpkin seeds but spice mix you made sounds delicious and i might have to try this

  • @danzeik

    the shells are great, they add "crunch" but it's an acquired taste -soaking them in salt water at least overnight helps open them up a little more easily. however they don't "pop" open like pistachios or the like. soaking them will also infuse the salt into the shell. i like to use butter instead of evoo but it's the roaster's choice lol. make them like this and they'll be better than from a store. the ones from the store. if you grind up the salt and cover the seeds they'll taste like in store

    I have not tried boiling the seeds in salt water before roasting them. I'm going to give it a try. And I will also try your suggestion with using a light olive oil instead of extra virgin olive oil. Can't wait to try it. I look forward every year to eating roasted pumpkin seeds. Happy Halloween!!!!

    The time is now! The stores are already scaling back their pumpkin displays. When you bring home that Jack-O-Lantern project, be sure to use those seeds! It's easy and they are delicious.

    • @CologneCarter

      Far easier is to go to the store and get a bag of pumpkin seeds. They are already washed and dried. ;)

      +Captain Peroxide (Vince) On balance, costs may even be lower than buying a whole pumpkin, since Halloween and Jack-O-Lanterns in this country are not overly common yet with the general public and old fashioned pickled pumpkin is somewhat out of fashion these days.

Is there a certain way to know when a pumpkin is at its prime to start cooking with it..or does it matter? I noticed my pumpkin was kinda hard to cut,and in your pumpkin bread video you made it look so easy. Thanks,Kat

    The seeds will stick to a paper towel when drying and you'll end up with seeds and paper! I think a towel works best. Of course, you can skip the boiling and just lay the rinsed seeds on a cookie sheet, sprinkle with salt and melted butter, and bake until browned. This was my kid's favorite part of carving a pumpkin I think!!

    I like my pumpkin seeds raw, and unsalted...
    Adding salt is a marketing gimmick to get people to eat more of the product than they normally would, the same is true for nuts... It's great that you're showing people that the pumpkin seeds are worth eating, instead of tossing into the rubbish... :)

    Hi :) I made your recipe today and it was a disaster :'( I don't know what I did wrong, but the seeds began to pop like popcorn in the oven and after the 15 min they were almost burned. Do you have any advise?

    • @amberwendt262
      @amberwendt262 10 лет назад

      Sounds like you cooked them too long, try 10 mins or less.

    • @YourProduceGuy
      @YourProduceGuy  8 лет назад

      +Stertje1979 Cooking them less is good advice. You could try turning down the temp as well, but to get the crispness you are looking for, a higher temp is probably the correct call.
