This video was produced in Canada and is most applicable to people living with HIV in Canada and other high resource settings. Additional considerations may apply to those living in lower resource settings that could influence infant feeding choices.
This video aims to explain the risk of HIV transmission through breastfeeding through the following topics:
    ● How HIV infects immune cells
    ● The difference between cell-associated and cell-free HIV
    ● What HIV medications do (and can't do)
    ● Factors that increase the risk of transmission
This is by no means a comprehensive summary of risk or infant feeding choices for people living with HIV. Always consult with your doctor, social worker, and/or HIV organization.
This project is a combination of efforts, with input from a large group of researchers, healthcare providers, HIV organizations and people living with HIV. This project is indebted to this feedback and the many who contributed their time and assistance.
Additional material has been developed as part of this process. The video is also available in French and Spanish. This material and additional versions of the video can be found here: www.ohtn.on.ca/...
