    WNBA players are paid less cause they bring in less advertising revenue & sponsorship revenue than the NBA. When marketing execs see the WNBA a viable investment based on viewership then the Women’s pay will go up.

      Pretty much this. The WNBA makes $200m in revenue a year. The NBA makes 50 times more at $10B a year

      This is the correct and logical answer. But that doesn't matter. For example, the USWNT in soccer and their player's association signed a CBA and traded performance based pay for guaranteed pay. THEN whined about how unfair it is because the Men's pay. They took it to court and loss and the Judge even said you signed the deal and only want to change the structure of pay after the fact. They lost the case but the organizing body still caved in to their demands. The WNBA whiners are trying to do the same.
      It's purely an emotional argument that they "do the same job" thus should get paid the same.

    I totally agree that the way to support the WNBA is to show actual interest in the WNBA. It's some of the best and most entertaining basketball in the world. If you want the players to get the recognition you feel they deserve (financially or otherwise), the most helpful way isn't to complain on social media. Watch the games, go to the games, tune in when people in the media discuss the league, argue with your friends about players or teams. Be a fan of what the WNBA is, rather than complaining about what it isn't.
    I don't mean to minimize why people would be upset. The numbers really are jarring, and the conversation can be exhausting. We all have friends who talk down on the league (without ever watching it), and we all have seen people who are angry about the league not being more successful (without actually watching it). And it's obvious that, really, none of those people know basketball. I think some of the confusion comes because we're talking about different things. The numbers make sense based upon the support the leagues get, but they don't make sense in terms of the quality of the product or the value of the competition. I hope, someday, to see the salaries reflect the latter reality. But the money goes where the fans go, and so many people should look in the mirror if they don't like what the salaries say.
    I also think it goes a lot further. Some players, including Caitlin Clark, will be able to build excitement and will be able to capitalize on that. I'm glad for them. But I also, personally, feel like the WNBA and surrounding media haven't done a good enough job of promoting their stars and leveraging that popularity to build the popularity of the entire women's game. For better or worse, more fans than ever follow players and storylines more than teams or leagues. There's a lot of enthusiasm around many of the younger players entering the WNBA. I hope they do a better job of using that energy than they have in the past.
    And, by the way, I know that a lot of people are annoyed about the rising prices of live sporting events. I understand that, for many people, it leaves them feeling left out of those experiences. Go to WNBA games. At least for now, it's some of the best value in pro sports. Go with your family, go with your friends. You'll have a great time, your partner and your buddies will have a great time, your sons and daughters will have a great time. It's a lot more fun, and a lot more healthy, than screaming into the internet void.

    Dear Rachel you're absolutely right and what you just said I have never watched the WNBA League before so you're right I am limited knowledge on it but I do understand the difference between a 28 years in a fledgling League yet compared to a 78 to 79 years the NBA has been in play and the volume of the money situation between 10 billion annual made compared to 60 million for the WNBA and I have put out on Facebook especially when iced tea off of Caitlin Clark 5 million to play for 10 games in the big three he was taking a big backlash on that I pointed out even if she doesn't take that deal when she reached it WNBA League from the draft yes her salary is just basically $338,000 for 4 year deal show me make up more than that in her off Court deals they call NIL deals but now that she's in the WNBA they will call some sponsorships and as we can see Nikes giving her a 28 million 8 year deal what's the signature Michelle approximately make 3.5 million per year plus a percentage of the shoes that are sold yeah like I said I don't know anything about the WNBA but from ladies like you that explain things to me in more greater detail I agree with you Caitlin Clark will be just fine Oliver off-court deals and her popularity because how much everybody across the world really like her cuz it's a type of lady that she is on and off the court it would have more people like Caitlyn Clark whether there's an amazing or a woman's League of any kind of sports it would be such a better world wouldn't it with more kindness instead of hatred as we can see already doc Clark effect is already playing a big deal in the WNBA League how much ticket sales have grown by a big bunch how much does it cost and in arenas are starting to be sold out for a lot of these franchises first time ever no I just hope the rest of the league will get behind the commissioner of their league instead of doing more hatred on Caitlin and do more supporting her to grow their league even better there have been other women it has in their past history anybody with half a brain can understand that but with Clark and the rest of the draft ladies that came in this season and their capability raising the legal leading by Caitlin Clark they can take their league up another notch for sure jazz from her popularity I understand that much so I'm saying good luck for all these young ladies just got drafted this season and because of Caitlin Clark I will be watching the WNBA League now just to follow any young ladies that came into the league with her to see what they might be able to do the raise up the popularity to another level for the WNBA League now

    I have some friends who are basketball purists, and they tried watching the WNBA when it first started but they didn’t like it because they said that the product wasn’t that good. To be fair, this was during the time of Michael Jordan, so nothing including the NBA since then is as good, but the game is changing and one thing I learned from watching some women’s college basketball games for the first time this year is that the competition is real. They are genuinely competitive and leave it all on the court, and people like to see that heart and that passion and determination. It’s not just Clark. Angel Reese is an absolute dawg in the paint, and Nika Muhl and Jacy Sheldon absolutely hustle on the court. So, after learning about them in college, I’m really interested in seeing how things go in the next stage of their careers. I’ve already pulled the TV schedule for the WNBA, and I’ll definitely be watching some games.

    They need to lower the ring to 9.5 feet and make every other rule identical to mens incl the 3 point line stop treating them like babies lol, but the height difference to not jump that extra half a foot would make a huge diff as women vertical leap is naturally much less than men as their muscles are not as powerful. WNBA Players are paid less because its a Subsidized League under the NBA. So they are given a pre Budget. They have to study why the NBA is paid so much. As a NBA Fan for decades, we Love seeing Dunks, Step back 3 point shots (hint hint why Caitlin is selling out arenas) , and fancy no look type of passes and be a character. Caitlin sells arenas. What Women don't realize is that Caitlin Clarks step back 3 point shots are giving the Womens Basketball space a Female version of Steph Curry. Curry brings fans and sells jerseys so its a no brainer why Caitlin makes a lot of money. I think moving the rim from 10 ft to 9 ft will increase fans too because the Dunk can happen more. Before people say it won't work heres why it works the Female Ball is smaller anyways. Women aren't as strong as men so can't expect any exciting dunks unless the rim is 9 ft. Do that and their top salaries of $250,000 jumps to $10 million just off of dunks. Thats why Men have support. Ask any NBA fan we Love dunks and 3s and a storyline. Make Caitlin their Larry Bird and find a Magic to create a storyline and their money increases as well. Need a WNBA rivalry amongst 2 teams.

    If you think CC is making less money than Wemby yearly I have an ocean front property in Arizona for 4 sale. 😂
    Yes, their rookie contracts say what they say but trust me CC is making way more money than Wemby and she will throughout their careers. She’s Taylor Swift & Wemby is Beyoncé both great but because of the demographics of their fans one will make so much more money.
    CC is not making 75k only to play in the W this year or the next 4. The league and their sponsors are simply funneling money for her to play through endorsements which can be kept secret which also helps so other W players won’t know so they can’t complain about it.
    Caitlin has real data that’s shows she moves the needle more than any basketball player men’s or woman’s. In reality Wemby is not even in her league.
    She’s a revenue generator and knowing that only a fool would think she is playing for 75K a year. The leagues (NBA&W) are not stupid they know what she means to the leagues and their future revenue generation. They knew they had to pay her to play and it’s not 75k that’s for the public. There are plenty of ways for them to pay her real value without anyone knowing thru their business partnerships using endorsements.

I watched Skylar Diggins lose to Baylor because they had a 6'5" man named Britney Griner playing against them. The reason WNBA players make less than NBA players is because the league is CRAP. TV isn't free and it is paid for by advertisers. Also, almost every game she is playing in is having to move to a larger venue because of ticket sales. There's also the fact that all her games are almost sold out already and her jersey sold out during the draft. You call people uneducated, yet you didn’t quite share all the facts. Clark SOLD OUT every 15,000 seat arena she played in this year. Tickets went for hundreds of dollars. All signs point to the Fever doing the same this summer. You can do the math for how much money that will bring in. You have to admit getting paid a base salary of $76k for that return is kind of silly.

    • @Regin314
      @Regin314 5 месяцев назад

      I'm pretty sure you didn't do your research either and give all the facts... , First the money she is generating for is NCAA , why would NBA/WNBA give more when is still not proven, second: even though she sold out every seat and NCAA Women basketball has more viewers ... Men's basketball still generate more revenue than the women... and not just by little but by a lot .... Men's NCAA Revenue $1.2 billion, Women $2.3 million... Men basketball still generate 90% of the revenue for the NCAA... and although Women's basketball is not subsidized by the Men team they still get just a little over 25% revenue of the Men's team...

    • @IowaRocker81
      @IowaRocker81 5 месяцев назад

      @@Regin314 that’s all well and good but I’m not arguing the league as a whole. I agree all other women should make their current salary. I simply want Clark to get paid more because she brings In more revenue/attention than most other women combined.

    • @Regin314
      @Regin314 5 месяцев назад

      @@IowaRocker81 Again she still has not proven for the NBA/WNBA she will generate more sales, the only way she will get paid more is they subsidized further cash from the men's team or should they lower the income of other WNBA player?? WNBA players are paid that because there is only so much money you can give a specific player from money already given by the NBA, should she generate more sales and lower the debt the WNBA has had since its conception or miraculously finally make a profit then an increase would not be out of the question.. not until then , she gets the money that the WNBA can afford.

    One of the things that is not mentioned is, Caitlin is an American basketball household name. Wemby is a worldwide celebrity. Let's say China is the second or prolly biggest basketball market, you will not see a lot of Caitlin fans out there. Basketball is no longer an American sport, NBA knows this which is why when they build up athletes - they are thinking "world".

    I don’t think people realize that it’s a business first and the pay is based on the money the league it self makes. I feel like this new of women coming out college can get them close to pay the men get I don’t know how close, but if it’s going to happen it’s going to happen because they earned it and not because people decided to just give them more money. The ones complaining about probably never watch a sport to begin with and just think they is an injustice for everything.

    not to mention that the NBA is 78 years old as a league. the WNBA is only 28 years old, so the NBA has a huge head start. the NBA wasn't always a huge smash hit money maker like it is today, it almost became defunct because they weren't bringing in enough revenue. it wasn't until the Larry Bird/Magic Johnson era that the NBA really took off. hopefully Caitlin, Angel, Paige, JuJu, and these upcoming players will be that for the WNBA.

    This confirms what I said earlier. Caitlin has been blessed by endorsements to such a large degree that she has escaped that nba/wnba salary discrepancy. Women love residence…homes. Caitlin if a saver and from her Nike deal…..could pay cash before she’s 25 for her forever ? 10 acre ranch. That is a security and comfort level that can make many wnba players jealous. And Caitlin needed no hotness to achieve that level. And that causes other players to blame themselves for not practicing threes….when they were three. Lol….there is a complex matrix in all this Caitlin stuff.

    If I remember correctly, The G.O.A.T., Michael Jordan, only made about $400k/yr until the early 90's, then he got about $4mil/yr until he came out of retirement for his 2nd 3-peat. That's when He broke the $30mil/yr barrier for ALL top players who followed. The WNBA is messing up by focusing 99.9% on Caitlin Clark, when she was merely the headliner of the deepest draft class in WNBA history. They had 36 picks over 3 rounds, and 34 were college stars and superstars; not counting those who went un-drafted. 3 whole wnba teams were drafted to the 12 existing teams, and it's idiotic to ignore 34 whole groups of fans these ladies are trying to being with them to the WNBA. This type of foolishness, trying to create a "Great White Hope" of the WNBA is ridiculous, when about 50% of the class is also White!😂
    They won't stop making bad business decisions. Almost all of these women have tape of them competing in high school, so it's no surprise this draft was flooded with starters and key backups. It makes no sense to exalt 1 player who can't be what she's been without this level of competition...and others stayed in school another year. A'ja Wilson signaled the changing of the guard, and the W needs to make this right. Caitlin can't carry a WNBA she hasn't even had a training camp in yet.😂
    That's a whole nutha level of desperation, since we're all fairly certain Caitlin will be fine, yet you decrease surface area by limiting yourselves to 1, when total inclusion increases surface area. It's like broadcasting a national game only in the Midwest, when all of America is checking for the game. Stupidity & laziness is why they're hemorrhaging millions yearly. I mean, they literally used a year of race-baiting Caitlin vs Angel crap to get this momentum to push only Caitlin over all these talented women? Wow. Women run this, so you can't keep blaming men for not buying tickets or watching games. I mean...36 of 40 televised WNBA games will feature Caitlin Clark, not the back-to-back champion & runner up. It's crazy. I guess her being drafted signaled the end of physical play? I expect a ton of uncommon whistles when these vets D-up.

It’s becoming garbage, Between the horrible officiating, the constant whining of players, to the nastiness to which players treat each other…..fighting and cheap shots….. and uncoacheable players because the money they make has made them so arrogant………..hardly entertaining.

    based. IN MY OPINION, the WNBA needs to add something that the men's game doesn't because if you're looking for talent, skill, athletic ability, then you're not going to get much better than the NBA. If the WNBA dipped into something more creative such as storylines similar to WWE or the behind the scenes rivalries or something. A different scoring system could be incorporated to make it more of a coaching/strategy game like shoot from 5 spots outside of the 3 point like extra 5 points after or the losing team has a closer 3 pt line so that the game is always close. They can't expect to gain audience from just playing the same game I'm sorry to say.
