Well this isnt actually an african rock python believe it or not. Whoever made this documentary mislabeled this Southern African python in the video. People almost always mix those 2 species up. Idk why though, I could tell them apart in my sleep.
Anyways, what you are saying is mostly true. On average, burmese pythons ARE slightly larger than African rock pythons..... but not by a lot. Burmese pythons are also much less heavily muscled too. African rock pythons are extremely solid animals. They are very dense and strong compared to similarly sized snakes. So much so that you could EASILY tell them apart with your eyes closed just by feeling how firm they are.
The size differences between the giant snake species is also very very minimal. A large African rock python can easily be much larger than an average sized burm. It has more to do with individual genetics than species when it comes to any of the 3 largest python species. I keep all 3 of the giant pythons myself, both as pets and for breeding projects for the pet trade. I have some Burmese pythons, Reticulated pythons, and an African rock python. Reticulated pythons dedinitely have the potential to be the longest and the heaviest of any living snake species, followed by burmese pythons, then green anacondas, and then African rock pythons.... Believe it or not green anacondas are actually NOT the longest or the heaviest. My African rock python is an oddball though. Shes actually much much larger than any of my retics or my burms that are her age. She is many times heavier than any snake i own that is roughly her same age. She actually weighs more than any 3 of them put together. She will be many times heavier than average when shes done growing. She will be bigger than the vast majority of Burmese, or reticulated pythons, and bigger than most anaconda too. Thats the thing about big reptiles that you dont see in large mammals. An unusually large example of any reptile can be literally be 5 times heavier than the average for its species. An extremely large female reticulated python, burmese python, anaconda, african rock python, etc could be 200-300lbs, yet a small male of the same species might only be 10-20lbs, even when fully grown. Pretty crazy right? It isnt just gender differences either. Ive literally seen 10lb female reticulated pythons lay eggs. Some reticulated pythons found on certain islands are just much smaller than they are in other areas, even though they are the same species. The giant python species all have the potential to get huge, but most individuals dont ever seem too achieve that maximum potential or anything remotely close to it. I have a breeding age Male burmese python who is only 6 or 7ft long and maybe 10lbs, yet hes an adult and hes perfectly capable of breeding. Yet my 11ft African rock python is nowhere near breeding age yet, shes basically just a HUGE toddler. Even snakes who hatched from the exact same clutch of eggs can be many times larger or smaller than their siblings. Theres just a crazy amount of variation in sizes when it comes to reptiles, even within a single species.

What's your problem? Why are you on all of the african rock python videos trying to spread misinformation? That never happened.
