Great video John. I used to have that Tool for the hinges lost at when we moved. Keep up the great videos. Bloopers to!😂 Nothing like repair Old Chevy's.❤
Great video ! I know I’d asked you to do a video on this but I’m sure this video will help out so many people ! My 70 is later and has the welded hinges. Thanks and take care John ! And happy thanksgiving to you and your family
Nice job! Mine has the bolt on hinges, and i prefer them, all Novas made in Argentina had the bolted ones. Btw, we would love an update on the 4 door to 2 door conversion!
Good video on explaining this repair. I had to do the same repair on my 72 a few years back. Also had to jack the door up from the bottom and bend the hinges slightly to align to the quarter panel
Happy Thanksgiving, John. Hope everything is going well for you. Thanks for making another video, especially for today. And that is a blessing. My friend nova stuff, you got it.
Back in the late 70's I had a 73 Gremlin with that issue. No internet and no bushings at least local anyway. My brother had a metal lathe though and a round brass bar. We made bushings to fit the pins and drilled out all the holes for the new bushings. It worked great. I have no idea how the brass held up with age. As usual, I sold the car shortly after getting it fixed up. I did coat the pins with axle grease when putting them in. Maybe I should have included a zerc fitting. ;-) . Happy Thanksgiving.
Take some small vise grips and lock it down on the pin and turn it back and forth and pull up on it, it helps to spray them with pb blaster and it'll come right out.
Hey, John, what's going on? , l looked at your video where you replaced the door striker pin with a dorman pin l replaced. Mine with the Same thing and the pin protruded too far out. It would pass the latch and hit my door and wouldn't allow me to close the door because of the striker pin sticking too far out any suggestions. I'm fixing this.
After repairs are made be sure to use grafite or lithium lube on all pivot points every six months to prevent premature wear, Hood hinges and strikers also. 👍
Good morning sir. I have a question I got some rain water falling in through my quarter glass. Do I need to install the quarter glass channel run or a felt kit
That’s almost always caused by the window felt between body and glass. Make sure the rear windshield channel isn’t rusted at top of quarter. That will get water in same place but trim will hide it.
@Shop209 that's alright you've got think about what to say and that takes talent I probably would of mixed everything up and no would figure out what I'm trying to say. You did a grade job thanks for all the cool things you do.
i have a 69 nova with the bolted hinges but i would like to replace the door with 70 welded hinges is this possible with a little modification or what options do i have??
Now I know why my dad never messed with the bottom hinge pin. Had to lift the door to shut it, but he still wouldn't fix it. Tough looking job, but it's gotta get done, or the car will look like crap with no doors.lol
Great video. Thank you for taking the time to post an awesome Nova video on Thanksgiving. Thank you for your time and effort.
Thanks for watching! Happy Thanksgiving!
I'm really enjoying your videos, thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge.
Thanks for watching!

I have a lot of bloopers I don’t put in videos because sometimes my language is not great when I mess up. Lol.

I should have a video on the 4 door next week. Just need more shop room to work on it so it’s taken a while.
Awesome video John, I ❤ur videos, and you sharing your knowledge. Keep it brother 💯

Thanks! Luckily these didn’t need any more than pins and bushings.
Great video. You would be surprised at the amount of people that don't know this👍
Great tips John.... just glad my door pins and bushings are good!!!!
I think the 4 doors have less load on them. Not sure. Hope you’re having a great week!!
@@Shop209 Yes the 4 doors have way less load. I’m having a great week and hope you are having a great Thanksgiving!!!
Happy Thanksgiving, John. Hope everything is going well for you. Thanks for making another video, especially for today. And that is a blessing. My friend nova stuff, you got it.

I just took the doors off of my 1973, the drivers door pin was super rusted but with the long punch and small sledge hammer it came right out,
Great advice sir!!👍👍 happy thanksgiving!!!👊

That’s pretty good. The Nova doors would be a pain to drill but the body hinges aren’t too bad. Hope you had a great day!
And don't forget to disassemble for grease after body and paint work, and reassemble. Grease and oil our are friends!
Yep. I forgot to say they need grease.
Take some small vise grips and lock it down on the pin and turn it back and forth and pull up on it, it helps to spray them with pb blaster and it'll come right out.
Great vid. Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanks. Happy Thanksgiving!
The definition of a slow speed drill
Definitely!!
Any suggestions john on how to fix this the striker pin
Hook a box wrench under the top of those door pins and smack the bottom of the wrench as close as possible to the pin upwards
I’ve used pliers like that. I’ll have to try that sometime

Great advice. I always forget something. Lol.
I have a 1974 WindShield already removed from the car !
I need one! Lol
I’ve got a 69 Nova and someone put a 70 and up door on it. So the hinge bolts to the car and is welded to the door. What would you do to fix that?

Is any suggestionsOn fixing this ???
Hay I'm just wondering if you need some grease in those bushing.
It’s a good idea to use grease or something. I should have mentioned that.

You have to use the inner half of the bolt on hinge then put the door on.
@@Shop209 thanks bud
Didn't you have to remove the retainer clips on the bottom of the pins first?
Normally yes but these were long gone. I should have mentioned that.
Show us the part number on the package please.

Lol. Yeah. That bottom pin kicked my butt.
