The song in the end credits it's called "Città Vuota" (empty city) and it's from one of the GREATEST italian singer of all times, Mina. The song is about a lover who sing her love for her loved one because even there are a lot of people surround her, the city feels empty without him and she can't believe their love has ended. She is asking for him to come back because now all the streets are empty but if he'll come back they could be together forever.
It's a very sweet song and it's a little too much on point about the situation of Luca and Alberto to be a coincidence 👀

Notice how whenever Luca daydreams with Alberto he’s always on a Vespa with Alberto, but when he was daydreaming with giulia they were on separate flying things.
And how Alberto and Luca always wanted to ride the Vespa together when they could’ve just went separate
And when Luca was about to go down the hill by himself but he was hesitating to go down, and then giulia touched Luca’s hand it set Alberto off.
And their fight Luca did the handshake thing with giulia, that set Alberto off cause it was the first thing Alberto did with Luca when they first met, and that obviously pushed Alberto to go into the water to show his true form.

Luca has a perfect set-up for a tv series, just imagine a show about Luca's life in Genova and Alberto's in Portoroso. The episodes can have a simple plotline, maybe even use some ideas from ending credits. We could get more view of the underwater village, get to know Gulia's mom. Also I need more bonding between Alberto and Massimo. And the way to episode could be Luca/Alberto write a letter to the other to tell them what happened. It would be so cute

  • @tehdipstick
    @tehdipstick 3 года назад +54

Luca would still probably be called a shepherd as the fish he was herding seem to most likely have been sheep fish.
Also, while I didn't personally pick up on any LGBTQ+ vibes while watching the movie, myself, I think it's really cool how many people have. I think that's part of the beauty of this movie. It works either way, no matter how you look at it. It doesn't invalidate anyone.
Not to mention, looking back on it there is some pretty strong subtext for Luca and Alberto being gay and I think think it makes certain parts of the movie even more powerful. Alberto revealing he's a sea monster, for instance, could be symbolic of him 'coming out', and the way Luca reacts because he's afraid of being found out himself, even if it means betraying Alberto's trust in him... It's definitely evocative of the struggles facing LGBTQ+ people.
Also, of all the Pixar movies to date I think this one probably has my favorite character designs for humans (and cats). I just love the aesthetics, as well as the use of color.

Can't believe I didn't see this video until today, but I wanted to point out that Luca has become my all-time favorite picture movie dethroning both Wall-E and Inside Out.
I even spent most of 2022 writing a fanfiction story that takes place alongside the events of Luca with a human orphan who was raised in Portorosso only to discover on his 13th birthday that he's actually a sea monster When he touched seawater on his birthday and now he had to hide this side of himself from everybody including his kind adopted parents, an American woman and an native Italian father.
I even took the song Part of That World from The Little Mermaid and changed the lyrics to reflect my character's desire of meeting other sea monsters like himself

The ending of the movie is. My heart. Okay I’ve rambled about it so many times but.
The island represents Luca’s freedom, but Alberto’s prison.
“You got me off the island Luca. I’m okay.”
You got me away from the worst part of my life. I was trapped, and left behind, but you kept coming back.
Also, this is the first time Alberto admits he doesn’t know something. Before he would say “I know what’s best” or play it off with a joke. But when Luca asks him what the handshake means, he says he doesn’t know. But he knows Luca wants to know, so he wants Luca to find out. “Go find out for me will ya?” Which is even the name of the final track, that scene.
They hold onto each other until they can’t anymore, because they were, for the longest time, all each other had. But they have to let go. And Alberto cheers Luca on.
Luca keeps looking back to where Alberto was even when he can’t see him anymore. But then he looks over to the island. The place he first felt free, yes, but he needed to leave the island behind. Because Alberto needed to leave the island behind.
So he looks back to Alberto one last time, wipes his tears, smiles, and turns towards where the train is headed, towards the future. His memories of Alberto will remain, so he doesn’t have to look back to him anymore.

Im italian, usually we don't say things like "santa mozzarella" or "santa ricotta" and other. We usually say "dio santo", "o mio dio", "caspita" that's like "damn", "cavolo" that's like "fuck" but not vulgar, or "cacchio" like "dammit" or "damn". Btw i love this movie and there are not too many stereotipes, so it's perfect

The ending of this movie gets me so badly every time, I literally just start audibly sobbing. And I adore the shot of the island that's bathed in light, it looks so beautiful and peaceful. But what makes it truly so gorgeous is that it's alone now. No more of the young sea monster boy waiting for his father, or of the sea monster boy grieving having lost his only best friend for what he thinks is his fault. It's alone, abandoned, as it should be. Because just like Luca, Alberto is now free. 10/10 movie for me. I just love it so much.

The cards are Scopa cards. It's a great game where you have to match numbers to get more cards then the other player. The seven of "Denare" is the best card with 22 points, the 8,9 and 10 are the worst cards with 10 points. The "Scopa" is, when you take the last card what is laying on the table. It's an easy but very fun game.

Loved this movie! I honestly never really thought of Luca and Alberto as a low key love story. I honestly saw them more as brothers or family. Ya know, Luca being an only child and he now has the brother he never had and Alberto now has a family after his blood family abandoned him. I mean I'm not mad at the idea of Luca and Alberto being a love story. I'd support it and love it. It just never really crossed my mind until now.

Honestly yes there is something between them, it’s called friendship. I don’t want to be mean or anything but there can be a movie with just a friends and not any romance, plus I not homophobic don’t get me wrong but I’am tired of many who loves to ship characters who are just a friends (also they are kids so they are only BFF or more like brother bond between them). But if you have your opinion it’s ok.

You have expressed my own thoughts, I agree with your every word!
I am part of the LGBT community, but honestly I'm sick of seeing romantic ships everywhere.
I find it much more interesting when less represented relationships are analyzed, such as a true deep friendship or a bond of brotherhood that is not only dictated by genetics but by how much you care about a certain person.
Friendship can be as strong as romantic love and even more, this doesn't necessarily make two people in love in a romantic sense!

12:43 lol no there's isn't anything going on between them, they're just really good friends that have each other's backs 🤣 and it's cuz of stuff like this, some guys are afraid to express themselves for fear of coming off as gay. Lol but it's a movie and you can make your own back/future stories. But no lol nothing is going on between them

Onestly, not all the city in Italy have schools, expecially in most poor towns or they are very far away, perhaps, there where a lots of motivation for luca to leave, everyone in the town know that he is a sea monster, so is dangerous for him to stay in that town.

  • @ezool18

1:48 fun fact! tarot cards ARE the cards used in the italian card game (seen when alberto and luca first make it to town). it was only later did people associate divination elements to the card deck, so it makes sense for the audience to first think of tarot cards when luca picks it up here.
also another fun fact: the Page of Cups means "innocence/curiosity/dreamer/new beginnings" so it was very intentional for the animators to choose this specific playing card to be what luca finds.

There are SO MANY reasons why I love this movie! But one of the top points for me is that the director took inspiration from Ghibli films to make this, and it shows! Especially in the after credits. I read that even the town "Portorosso" is a direct nod to the movie "Porco Rosso". He even intended it to be Luca's last name initially.
But the art style and the feel of the movie is a beautiful blend, and has quickly stolen my heart as one of my favorite movies! ❤🐠

The reason why they don't go to school in Portorosso is that... actually there isn't any middle school there.
We are between the 1950s and 1970s so we can assume they're in the 1960s.
In those years, kids were obliged to go to school only until the fifth grade of elementary but if the family couldn't afford to send them to middle school, they sent them to work.
There were cases where the town itself couldn't afford to have a middle school or teachers for it, reason why rich kids for going to middle school have to take two trains everyday that could take them to a largest town or a city where hopefully there was a middle school (and if u were rich enough, also highschool and in the future university) the family could afford.
In this movie, Genova is the nearest city, where Giulia's mom also live, so is the only choice they have to go to a school for their age.

Also Also, I too saw the subtext and I am never going to buy the corporate LIE that these sea babies are straight. The hand holding, the emotional connection, the putting yourself in danger to help each other? It's the "if this were a boy and a girl doing this ,you'd know they were in love " for me. It's the "How am I gonna know you're okay?" " You got me off the island, Luca. I'm okay. " for me!

  • @e.f.c.2341

People say she was put as a "love interest" BUT I felt more spark between Luca and Alberto. Usually Disney makes it obvious if there is a love at first sight or "this is gonna become something more" vibe but I didnt see it at all with the girl. When she was gonna leave Luca wasnt as affected as finding out he was gonna part with Alberto. Plus isn't the whole female third wheel a huge trope in European and some Asian gay films... Just saying....
