Oh yes, one of those jobs… I’m dreading it but my steering is loose and I don’t want to damage the splines. Thank you for taking the effort to put this video up. I’m going to try a slide puller but bet it will just rip the inner race out. Another big hammer job!
I just got this bearing out on my '96 300. Mine was really rusty and hard to get out the snap ring/c-clip. The inner race and balls fell out too. I cut a slit in the outer race with a Dremel and then it came out easily. Thanks for the video, it helped me wrap my head around how it all fits in there.
Just did it on my 350. outer race stuck in housing.Removed shock on one side and track rods, just enough room to get two cuts on it with the dremmel.Threaded bar and sockets then to pull outer race out.was well corroded in there ! Thanks for the video 👍
I just did this last week to mine 😂it was hard to get out I only had the outer bearing casing left so there wasn’t much left to drift with. I elevated the quad on axel stands and smacked it out with a sharp cold chisel.
Oi, Im on this same task, on an 89 front axles are toast cuz the PO did zed maintenance, I got the quad in a trade, knew it was clapped out but it had brand new tyres, seat and the motor once tuned runs surprisingly well.
Thanks for doing the video, I need to do this on an 02 350 I think it has got very hard to turn. Just an idea but could an extension be rigged up on a slide hammer to go through the same place the shaft was? May take a little heat on outer race but maybe we wouldn’t have to disassemble the whole machine. Seeing how much you took apart makes me want to haul it to the shop in town and write the check.
Thank you for the video, I did one once with no balls and had to cut gently with a dermal and break it, but different model, could not wack it from below
Dremel is a good idea. Would be good if you could get grease into occasionally. They are still good old bikes. I still use mine as a professional trapper. I’ve tried all sorts of other machines. I call my old Honda 300 a apocalypse machine. When the nukes go off, that and cockroaches will be the only things left that still work.
Yeah love tha Old Honda's just picked it up for $1500nz a few weeks ago and now in the process of a complete overhaul, I actually had to pull 2 bearings 2!! Some cowboys who Previously owned of this fourtrax Obviously Couldn't figure out how to remove the old outer race/ring of the old bearings that Obviously collapsed and just fitted a new bearing where the oil seals meant to go on top 🤦
I've got a trx 450 torn apart i need to get this changed. Looks as if Honda didn't ever intend on this being changed through the life of the bike because it's not accessable at all. They should have made the plate that holds it hold in place with 4 bolts you can remove to press out the bearing
@@seanlittlefair105 back in 99 I bought a brand new 300 out of the shop and it didn't have a fan on it, there was a bracket for one but no fan, somebody must have added your fan somewhere along the line....
Hi Cameron, yes, that way looks better. I’ve still got the old girl in bits. Working on brakes and trying to install a winch… I’m a bit ham fisted, but get their in the end. I’ll post the process soon. Cheers.

Good stuff. A puller might be the go. It’s a pity the bearing can’t be greased in situ. Good luck with the job.

Good idea about the dremel. Thanks.
You did well mate. It a bloody mess. This yank thanks you.

what size sockets did you use? I have a 1999 foreman and a 1” is slightly too small and 1 1/8” is too large.
@@normanj9198 ,sorry, not a fkn clue what size ,Dremel and some heat ,should pop out..good luck!

If you got nothing out of this video just know you saved me a lot of confusion and struggle 😂
Ha ha, glad to be of service 😊

Just in the process of replacing mine......made a puller it worked perfectly 👌
Good stuff. They are great bikes those Honda’s.

your right,it was a bugger to change. Hopefully I wont have to replace it for another 25 years ;-)
Were did you get ur cooling fan because I need one too...???
The cooling fan is factory. The bike is a 1996 Honda 300. I’ve had it since about 2002 I guess.

You didn't show us how to get the big locking ring clip out
Sorry.. from memory I’d had some right angle circlip pliers that allowed me to grab and remove the snap ring. Was a sod of a job tho….
Could have used a hydraulic jack maybe? Just saying. Hammers are so crude

Here's how I'm gonna attempt mine

My steering stem broke right above the bearing and I can’t get it out but this will help me with the bearing thank you
Terrible design on Hondas end!
In hindsight, I could have done it better. That bearing lasted 25 years, so if this one does I’ll be changing it from a nursing home :-)
