Damn, probably heard this version 20+ times now but i still get goosebumps when the band joins at the end and the intensity is turned up to max. Brilliant .
GREAT reaction, sir! Regarding one's choosing of where to sing in one's range, I think you did a great commentary. One thing, though, that I learned during the years when RA hit me so hard, beginning in the early 2000s, that my more-than-five-octave range (that I had obtained starting with learning from my mom at age two, in 1951) began to decrease almost daily, was that there are times when you really HAVE no choice. Most of my life until those years, I used to be able to help choir members, from the lowest bass singers to the highest sopranos, learn their parts, because I could sing every one of them, myself (and loved to do so). For me, back then, I didn't have to pick and choose which one to begin with or which one to finish with, due to which one might better suit my abilities or tonal qualities. All I had to do was just decide what I thought sounded best, at any given time, regarding the arrangement -- not my own voice. Then when my range began to shrink very quickly and drastically, beginning at the top, because I started leaning forward so far, due to the horrible joint inflammation and pain, I could no longer pick and choose just any part in an arrangement. By the time 2017 rolled around, all I could sing, at all, was BASS! At least I HAD that, still, which helped, because I was basically in mourning over the loss of the other parts of my range. Seriously -- all I ever really wanted to do, was SING. If I had to only sing bass, well...that's where I sang. After having to have both of my hip joints replaced in 2017, and being given high-level meds to at least reduce the inflammation and its effects, I have been working very hard to get my full range back, and I'm almost there, but it's still not as easy as it was, so many years ago. Now I DO have to pick and choose, exactly as you mentioned during this reaction. In so doing, both my range and my confidence have been growing more and more quickly, as well, thank God! Back to Erik (who also has had to work through some retraining of his voice after dealing for so long with the leukemia and now with the rebuilding of his immune system after his bone marrow transplant), I'm absolutely with you about his "raw emotion" coming through. I also like that he chose the NOEL version, at 8:40 here in your video. It really suits him and his voice awesomely. The reason I love Dan's version so much, is that the emotion to which HE changes over, is as the WARRIOR. That appeals to me very strongly, because I AM one. In Erik's version, though, as he switches to his new dynamic, it appears to me (given my own experience) that it's from a very grateful heart that he is still here in this world, being ABLE to sing this song so beautifully and capably. Then, when he comes down to the sweet ending, that feeling of LOVE for the Lord, is just wonderful! All of that said, I had thought it would never happen, but ... Erik's version has surpassed Dan's version for me, emotionally speaking. I will never intentionally choose one before the other, but I will lovingly and gratefully listen to both ... from different parts of my heart. Now that you've done this one, I'm thinking you will want to react to the brand new video of Erik and Tara Simon, singing "Mary Did you Know?" on HER wonderful channel! FANTASTIC!!! 😀
I agree with you. The other 3 versions were also great. But this one are truely something special. The emotions in Eriks voice, the whole arrangement of the song. It was different, and so beautiful. It touches your heart and soul. Erik and Jona have done an amazing cover again. Jona played all the instruments here, he’s also does mix, master and production. What a dream team they are. Have you seen Eriks wheel of forTunes? There Erik spinns the wheel to choose what style of music, and what the lyrics are gonna be about. Then you get to see how the lyrics and melody are created before you get the whole song. Its fun and interesting. His disco song about pizza, or his country song Sex on the beach. They are both damn gooood. 😀🇸🇪
Yep... this one was "Oh Holy Shit" that's amazing. You're always spot on in your reviews. For me, it's the emotion he always puts behind the voice. It just gets me every time.
I totally agree with your analysis. Erik is such an emotive performer who sings with so much conviction and his storytelling ability, especially with these types of songs, makes them more believable, and a lot of times, gets me so emotional which is so powerful for a singer to do. I feel a lot of times with other singers, although talented, they focus on demonstrating their vocal abilities/range and doing these runs but lacks the raw emotions that he has which is why I'm not a big fan of a lot of them. Something else with Erik is that he has a really good enunciation when he sings which makes it really easy to understand and appreciate the lyrics and follow the story he is telling and that is really amazing especially when English is his second language.
YES.. BECAUSE ERIK HAS THE MAGIC THAT COMES FROM HIS HEART AND SOUL...HE IS NOT SINGING WORDS BUT FROM HIS HEART!! THAT IS A BLESSING AND CAN NOT BE LEARNED OR TAUGHT!❤❤
Loved the other versions as well, I am a big Tommy fan and I loved his Swedish version but I agree with everything you said. I could feel the song and everything its about.
Oh oh oh I can’t wait for your reaction to this I can’t wait to tell Erik there is going to be a reaction from a Aussie! House of rising sun was his biggest cover it’s reached 1 million until O holy night his brilliant
@Sunedosa I think what she meant is that these two are best performing in comparison to the remaining covers on his channel when they were released during the same time period. House of the rising sun reached 1 million views in only one month and Oh holy night should reach it in less than 14 days which is his best performing cover to date. Erik mentioned this in his latest livestream.
@@sandytz123 Yea his videos has been picking up tons of attention fast lately, as she wrote it it says his biggest cover was house. The i will always love you cover was primarily the one that opened peoples eyes to him though, atleast those outside of rock and they're still getting a lot of views. Glad seeing him getting the recognition he deserves.
Thank you for a fantastic analyse and reaction 🎶♥️🎶 I’m listen to Erik’s version so many times and it’s gets me every time 😭🙏🏻 I love when he uses his lover voice. God’s gonna cut you down is another example.
It would be really interesting if you reacted to some of Erik's performances on Swedish Idol (2009), He was amazing then and it would be cool to hear your thoughts on how his voice has progressed through the years. Also, just to check out that raw talent!
I will definitely try to do that. Reactions to shows from different "idol" performances can be hard as they occasionally copyright strike them (I got lucky with the reaction of bad singers I looked at on the channel) but I will see what I can do 😊
There are two covers of these four you reacted to that I really love. Erik's cover is the other one. He doesn't show off his talent, he lives in the song. Brilliant! Jonathan Antoine's cover is also awesome and he really sings from his heart and soul but he's an opera singer and doesn't do any other genres.
Do you all REALLY wanna know how good Erik is...?? A week or whatever ago, I heard he'd released "Oh Holy Night". And as I was franticly SEARCHING for it - I GOT GOOSEBUMPS .....!! Before I found it!! 😳😳😳😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣 Well. THAT was a new experience.... 🥴🥴🥴
You should listen to Erik Grönwall sing Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You, it's the best cover I heard since Whitney Huston did her cover in the movie Bodyguard. You should even look/listen to him sing Mariah Carey's Without You, John Farnham's You're the voice, Eric Carmen's (Celine Dion) All by myself, (Oh Holy Night) and The Animals House of the rising sun, Pentatonix Mary Did You Know, they are also truly amazing! In 2009, Erik won Swedish Idol and performed the specially written song Higher in the final. On March 23, 2022, it was announced by Eddie Trunk that Grönwall is replacing ZP Theart as the lead singer of Skid Row. In March 2024, Erik announced that he was leaving Skid Row for health reasons after being diagnosed with leukemia. His first single, "Higher", reached gold on digital downloads after only three days. His debut album, self-titled Erik Grönwall, was released just ten days after the finals and debuted at number one on the Swedish albums chart and was certified platinum. Both as a solo artist and band member, Grönwall has numerous top 40 hits.
The guy is immensely talented. The only negative detail is that I wish they'd stop putting autotune (or pitch correction) on everything these days. Get enough takes and he nails it. I hate the shortcuts taken. He doesn't need it.
No I definitely have. I did a comparison video of 3 vocalists which showcased this song and how it can be done so differently. Personally this one speaks to me the most 😊
Yeah I'm not sure that's entirely correct. If he didn't love doing it he just wouldn't. I know many vocalists that were great and could have gone on to do wonderful things but just got to a point where they wanted to do other things. I don't believe he would be doing it just for the money. If you don't love it, it's not something you do even for the money
@@margijohnson5728 Sadly it is true , Dan has not put out a new video in months and never interacts with his fans as Erik does! ERIK loves his fans and shows it ..that is not Dan who is mostly interested in video games; Erik is mostly interested in singing!
Yes he is a great singer but for hardcore opinion, his is not the best because he uses a lot of digital production effects in his piece. But his rock stone voice is his distinction. But he will always depend on digital effects of his piece to match his mates. A proper nuance of what they do is the clarifier. But emotional fans cannot see it because it is hidden.
If you think Erik relies on digital production then my friend you never heard him sing live. Before doing these covers on his channel, he was in a Swedish rock band called H.E.A.T for 10 yrs and he was known for his powerful vocals and energetic performance. He was also in Skidrow for 2 yrs and the band chose him as their lead singer because of his vocal abilities. Just watch any of their interviews when he joined and they always talk about his voice and how they were able to include in their setlist some of the older tracks that only Sebastian could sing because Erik could pull them off.
He won idol in Sweden so he is great without it but obviously some tweaks make it sound even better. But its not autotune its just great production and laying tracks removing some breath.
@WFinanceandstocks any studio recording will have some kind of production element to enhance the quality of the piece regardless of the singer abilities. This is the role of the music producer. In Erik's case, it is always subtle and never overproduced to overshadow/change his vocals to become unrecognizable. He is one of those artists whose live vocals are almost identical to the studio recordings, and this was the case with both of his previous bands. The production only compliments his raw emotions and vocal abilities/talent, which is why people are connecting more to his covers/videos compared to his peers, and this reaction video only confirms it.
I HATE this guy. I'm never singing this again. That was ridiculous. First time hearing him, definitely won't be the last. I'm guessing it'll be mostly in the higher registers? Could be wrong though. However, dont need another Ren roller-coaster? Have a great Christmas 🎄
