Fairlight Automation nightmare! i've been using automation for plugins, and i encounter the same problem over and over, the automation changes most of the time , and i have to adjust it, not sure why this is happening, anyone else experiencing this?
Great stuff sir! Wonder if you could you perhaps make a tutorial about using Fairlight effects or 3rd party vst plugins for live pre-processing voice. I bet Fairlight can do same and much more than OBS does with its filters. Weird how there are no tutorials about that aspect of voice recording as Resolve offers tons more options and control in Fairlight compared to recording voice in OBS. Very interesting topic that is somehow not yet explored. Thanks!
Most people watching RUclips are not looking up that kind of stuff. I did a 8 hour course going over every part of Fairlight. jayaretv.com/davinci-resolve-fairlight-certification-course/
Great tutoriall! Am I wrong or you just can't have more than 1 automation pair track? When I add another automation on a different setting it looks like it overwrites the previous one!? thx
How do I choose automation parameters of each plugin, if I have for example 3 same plugins (Reverb) on one track. I can only see in the automation parameter section just one Reverb, but I am working with 3 of them...? Tnx!
Was this video a piece of the course or was this like an introduction to automation or the concept of it? I didn’t see anything new here other than the UI. Is there any difference writing or more importantly editing and working with automation in Resolve 18 compared to 17? Because that’s where I think fairlight really struggles. Working and editing with the automation
Na theirs more but its subbltle things like in 18 like any popup if you switch the track focus will actually switch the track on your popup which is a nice update, alt is also extremely powerful in fairlight, vca group automation can also be copyied to the automation tracks when tracks are removed from the vca, in my view it's getting much better & tighter audio program with 17+ obviously fairlight is better with the hardwear & it is a mastering daw but what are you interested in them improveming I am interested where the lack is in fairlight because I think it's quite good for a mastering daw 🤔
@@richardcross8957most of all. I would like them to update the way automation works in fairlight. Bring it closer to pro tools and more or less every other DAW out there. To have step based automation curves seems extremely outdated and the way you edit with those steps is just annoying. Also add different types of grids to work against, i.e frames/beats/spoting. If you’re doing a commercial or music video or any other production that needs to stick to the beat. You can save hours just by implementing that. Just having fairlight like it is, i’m having a real hard time implementing it into my workflow. I think it mostly works with smaller sessions. For example: the way it handles audio layers, you can only open every one at ones. No problem if you have 5-10 tracks. But when you’re having 75-200 tracks, at a minimum. Then it’s not so fun to open audio layers🥵 You can maybe divide them up with different timelines like MX FX AX etc. And have them all merging in one large final session but then there’s so many button clicks just getting around.
Hi JayR, I’m getting some strange behaviour when I add bus sends to a track when automation is on. Automation data appears on the track although I haven’t added any! Do you know anything about this? Best regards, Paul
HELP. When I pause the video, the automation resets. I have Write, Latch, Hold, and Pan selected. The panning toggle is on. I see the red on the knobs, the automation is on. But it won't let me automate. It becomes a straight green line when I pause the video.
@@Aripictures-production I got a reply from Jason Yadlovski on his channel saying to try setting them to Write, Off, Hold, Pan. I didn't try it yet though. Its stupid for it to not work with the other ones though.
You want to be using sidechained compressors; your voice tracks need Dynamics Compressor enabled, and they are set to send to sidechain. Then, you need the same effect on your music track/s, and they are set to Sidechain Listen. You set up your compressor to kick in when it hears audio on the sidechain send, reducing the music as you require, with variable attack, hold, and release values. There's lots of tutorials about it.
This is in resolve free, Dolby Atmos, few other spacial audio formats, bchain and 32bit float audio are the only things in fairlight locked behind studio if I remember rightly:)
If I could call somebody a Resolve expert, it would be you. Automations was a topic I just really didn't understand inside Fairlight, and this tutorial was very clear. As always, thank you!
You would route your audio as a copy through another track. That track's sole purpose would be to have a reverb effect on it. You then can simply control the volume of that track to control the strength of the effect. This way you keep all of the original track in which greatly helps with clarity as this approach is non-destructive, but actually additive. Think of it like adding an adjustment clip over a track you want to change and applying all of your effects on that adjustment clip. Then you'd change the opacity of the adjustment clip to control the effect strength. (I think in Resolve adjustment clips don't work like that, but replace "adjustment clip" with "layer" like in Photoshop and you have the same idea). I've only recently learned this from an audio engineer that showed me how to do it in Reaper. There's a way in Resolve too, but I have yet to find time to find out how.
Cannot automate reverb for some incredibly annoying reason. (I noticed you did echo in this tutorial, I watched this entire tutorial more than once and still can't get wet/dry to properly record). This is something in general that feels very restrictive and annoying in Fairlight. I get the power of automations, it's evident. But frankly I'm tearing my hair out to get wet/dry control knob to work, when I can split the track, cross fade it, control the how the cross fade works, and get this done in seconds when I've been over all the automation settings multiple times and still can't get it to work. I don't get why keyframing isn't also possible. Yes, automations are more powerful, but frankly I don't need that level of granular power for every change I want to do.
Yes with the select range tool + backspace . What i dont know tho is how to get a nice diagonal line without a ton of keyframes. Anyone who knows this?

That's not automations you're explaining, but recording automations. I still don't know how to do automations with key frames after watching the whole video, which is what I need. I don't want to go through my whole long video, record every automation and then have to clean that up, when I could do automations with key frames instead. The title of the video is wrong.
