  • Hello my friends and welcome back to my painting channel. A very warm welcome to something completely different. This video is all about recycling some old materials into amazing looking scatter terrain. It is not only easy to do, it's also a lot of fun and more importantly it's something that is great for relaxing and chilling out while doing. I had a lot of fun planning and then creating this piece of terrain and I thought it would make a fun and unique video to show you a few of my basing techniques at the same time. The idea with this scatter terrain is purely that you are only limited by your imagination because you can create pretty much anything. Also there is a small "Easter egg in this video showing you guys what is coming up next on the channel.
Thank you so much for your continued support and awesomely positive comments. This channel has been fuelled by you guys and the more you watch, comment and like the content the more content I will post. This channel was made during lockdown simply to show my friends how I paint in my spare time and since then it has grown into a nice little platform with quite a lot of content. Please feel free to ask any questions in the comments bellow and I will get back to you and answer you to the best of my ability.
As always Thank you for tuning in and watching and I hope you enjoyed this video and I really do hope that it helps you on your painting adventures.
I would like to add a special thank you to my good friend Mark Llewellyn for his amazing backing music. My videos wouldn't be anywhere near as good without them.
Also a massive thank you to my good friend Chris Dixon for his artwork on my banner.

Thanks again jon, very much appreciate your input and I agree so much with you about how relaxing terrain is. I do enjoy building my own custom pieces of terrain and the fun of recycling old bits and bobs is also very cool 🤟🏻

    This is fantastic!
I'm always amazed at the caliber of terrain you and others can create. I'm not nearly that skilled, lol (I also don't have any of the tools either) so I find this video simply magical!!!
However, I do try to be as creative as I can with what I have. I tend to keep some Styrofoam as well, but since I don't have the nice tools, I just use the hair dryer or a mini torch to melt the sharp edges, then glue layers together, and paint my "Hills" green, and "Rocks" grey, lol.
I suppose it works well enough for me and something Home-made simply has more value to me, and the sense of satisfaction I get is more than worth the money I save from buying something "pre-made" and ready-to-paint. And the enjoyment of building Home-made terrain is special to me as well.
I also tend to keep my models sprues from time-to-time as well, to use as "Lumber" or "Metal pipes and Rails", lol.
And I also have some Popsicle sticks made into "Bridges" and such as well, I do believe I got that idea from you too! (I'll have to re-check your Library, but I'm nearly certain that came from you 😀)
I know it's silly, but I try to be as creative as I can, albeit very primitive and rugged. But it works 😊
I can really see how much you love creating these. It shines through this video.
And YES! Please make more of these video. To be honest, at this point, I feel like anything you do in the hobby could be recorded and uploaded without a second thought. I find great enjoyment here, in the lessons that I can apply, and also simply watching you create something that I cannot, but am still in awe and having fun watching, and reading others' comments like *Michael Virtuoso* and hearing what he has to offer as well. I find this quite valuable and helps me greatly. Some day in my hobby future, I may be capable of such beautiful terrain building, and these videos are great little motivators and inspirational tools to an amateur like myself!
As always, another wonderful video, Dan.
No matter the content ; Painting, Bases, Terrain, Tips, Tutorials... I enjoy them all. They really hold value and entertainment for me.
Thank you for your time, and sharing, my friend! It's always such a pleasure.
Much Love form Canada to Wales. 💖
See you again very soon, my friend.
    Cheers!

Thank you as always my friend your input is very much valued and appreciated on this channel.
I am indeed very happy to see that the joy and love of making random and different bits of terrain and scatter pieces has shown through into the video. It is something that I find relaxing to do and it does make a fun little project in between painting miniatures too. There’s so many different styles and ways to make scenery and everyone has their own take on it and that makes scenery an individual art form of its own.
This little painting channel has become a serious source of pride for me purely in part because it has become a positive and friendly community where people feel comfortable to comment and also add their own tips and tricks here too. Each and every positive comment actively helps this hobby to grow and allows us all to grow, learn and develop together as well. All I do here is share with you how I’ve painted/made stuff and I’m always more than welcome to listen to the advice of others. I find this little channel to be more community based than other social media outlets and find that here on RUclips people as more questions and discuss the hobby much more.
Also to address your own work and your own scenery. It doesn’t matter how advanced or not the scenery is because it’s been handmade and you have had fun while doing it. That’s ideally the idea of the hobby. It’s to enjoy your spare time, relax and learn new skills. I am old enough to remember making terrain out of old cereal boxes and random bits of unpainted cardboard for the orks back when I was a teenager. Back then scenery wasn’t as advanced as it is these days and as kids we just played with whatever we had spare. A little bit of imagination and we were happy.
I thank you so much once again for your kind worlds and for your consistent well written comments on this channel. I am certain that it will help others and it’s always so lovely to hear from you. Thanks again for dropping by and watching/commenting/helping. Cake care of yourselves and I will see you on the next one!

Thank you very much. It does have a Celtic vibe for sure. Being from a Celtic land and brought up with Celtic legends and stories may have had an influence on this is some way.

@@MVeminor7 I often try to catch up and watch the videos Robert posts on his channel. They are fantastic and have a lot of great story and background to them. He always manages to capture a scene rather than just a single model, very cool for diorama work 👍🏻. Very much worth your time and it’s a very enjoyable channel too.

Ah Dan, you've captured my heart with this one. I spend 33% on minis, 33% on terrain and 33% on playing the game (the 1% is for thinking the projects out). I like the piece very much. It is balanced and in scale. My only addition is, I use various colored washes over the base color (warms and cools). I think this gives it more depth and visual appeal than the same color over everything. Variations in color keep the piece from looking too monochromatic. I also apply this technique to the dry brushing. The grass basing details are fabulous. The varied tones of the greens and the spot of red bushes really makes the whole thing pop and lends itself to a very believable look. I also keep the color of the game board in mind so the terrain will compliment it and yet, make it stand out. I think these elements add to the overall cohesion and visual interest to the the playing board. I am surprised and enthralled with this project of yours. I'm very much looking forward to more ideas and some photos featuring the minis. Great ideas and execution. Thank you as always and I'll see you in the next one.

You are absolutely spot on with the different colour washes and tones to create a more realistic looking rock. Making scenery is so much fun and again so open to your own creative style. I’m very happy you enjoyed this video as well, knowing you make scenery too just adds to the awesome tips you’ve added. I do enjoy how it’s only down to the imagination when making scenery and you can literally make anything you like.
I’m so happy to know you enjoyed the combination of plants and greenery on the base. I find that having a good selection of different grasses and tufts can really add depth to the overall look and feel of the scene. The big tuft box I picked up on Amazon is such a fantastic and useful set of basing materials for a brilliant price.
As always I thank you so much for all of your comments, the time you put into watching my little videos and of course your all round positivity on this channel too. I really do appreciate all you have done and look forward to seeing you on the next one 👍🏻

@@Bread0fHeaven Thanks Dan. I looked for the "tub if tufts" on amazon and could not find it. Does it have a more specific name? I really 'need' something like this. The variety and choices look great. And the quantity allows for experimentation without counting pennies. See you soon friend

The name on the tub says “war painter scenics” mega tub of tufts.
I hope this helps. There are four different options when I searched for this. Arid land and green landscapes were options.

      @@MVeminor7 Hello, Michael.
As an amateur, I always find value in your input here, and am always looking to see what you have to say.
I simply want to say "Thank You" as I have learned a few things from your comments on Dan's channel.
For example, today I find great value in your OP about... "I also keep the color of the game board in mind so the terrain will compliment it and yet, make it stand out."
I know this is likely second nature to you, and more than obvious to others' who share your skill level, however, to me, I have not implemented this yet, and I feel like this will elevate my hobby another step.
So "Thank You" for sharing, and helping a rookie like myself more forward in the hobby, and help to make my game and models look that much better!!!
      Cheers! 😀
