My ex's dad actually fought in war and she was raised in sheffield years later. Its crazy to see these kinds of videos because of the personal history i have with this.
What is annoying though is when people think blitz or when a film portrays the blitz it's always London. The blitz was a tragedy for London but don't forget what the north and Midlands of England went through. Sheffield hull Manchester Liverpool Birmingham Coventry and countless more cities.
I. Recall as an 8yr old lad, standing with a huge crowd,on Bellhouse Rd, waiting in completed silence , whilst 2 brave bomb disposal experts, removed the detonator from an unexploded land mine which had " fortunately" landed in firth park part...and the huge cheers that went up when it was declared "Safe"
My mum was 6 years old at the time of the blitz, but she Could remember having to sit in the Anderson shelter and the drone of the enemy bombers overhead.. The boom of anti aircraft fire was frightening. Her grandfather a veteran of the first world War refused to spend nights in the shelter, apparently he said" If Jerry wants me he can come and bloody well get me!" and he spent the blitz in his own bed!
mark smith we had a great country, people pulled together then, unfortunately I don't see it happening now, but we will see, looks like they maybe another war. But if this one kicks off there will be not a soul left to tell the story.
My Granddad was a kid during the blitz in Sheffield. He’d been bombed out of two houses. One because of incindiary bomb and the other because of a seconday water main explosion. He was even straifed at
