I went to a school that was majority white and I remember in history class I had this Asian kid in it and whenever we learned any Asian history my teacher would always ask him if he knew about it and I remember this white kid speaking up and saying we don’t all know the history of Ohio despite living in Ohio why would he know that and it just stuck w me
As a half white half Arab man, I know what you mean. People would say insulting things about Arabs and Islam in front of me not realizing that I am Arab and a Muslim.
this is a really interesting conversation because i’m also a white passing minority, both my parents have hispanic blood but my mother is white and i think i got that gene. my siblings are all very brown and i’m a pale olive tone. i feel a lot of insecurities about my race because i feel like i’m never brown or white enough.
I can relate to this because im European, middle eastern and Indian and i look like all of my ethnic groups at the same time and people have never known how to categorize me. I've gotten Lebanese, Greek, mixed with black and it makes you feel out of place. i actually did a DNA test when i was 15 because in high school students and teachers were always commenting on my heritage and was told i didn't look like my family. Race and perception of race is so unfair to mixed ethnic/race background. one minute i am white to someone and the next person im not
You say this as if race is a real tangible thing and not just a set of legal boxes we use to try to define people. There is no scientific "white race", only people who are considered white and those who aren't, and a legal and social system built around these lines.
@@maxgarval4997 White is a sub race of a larger classification of peoples called Caucasian. Majority of Middle Easterners are White (Syria, Isreal, Lebanon etc), although there are Black and Mixed race Middle Easterners as you would find in Yemen. Interesting stuff. I have had a different but not entirely dissimilar experience as an Ashkenazi Jewish man who doesn't look Jewish. I identify as white, I look white, and basically everyone assumes I'm white. But then every once in a while someone says some crazy antisemitic shit, either online or in real life, and it's like oh yeah, these people definitely would not consider me white. All the best, cool video
i relate to this a lot, for example im fully turkish and my paternal family have very dark skin tones. my maternal family isn't much paler either but they r from the european part of turkiye. but anyway, my family resembles who we r, middle eastern and caucasian (like the caucasus mountain range), but then i exist. i am considered the ghost of my family due to my extremely pale skin (my skin is paler than the average irish person) and my features r more so whitey than middle eastern but nobody realizes im from the middle east only because of my pale skin. not only that, nobody cant pronounce my name correctly (elif), and it is so annoying as people still think i have siblings with the most european names (i don't). also, people yell allahu akbar and even tho they dont know im muslim, it still annoys me as they r mocking islam. so yeah, i relate to u a lot, not the religion part, but i also face some of the things u face.
I can understand you being mistaken for like Italian-white. But i believe if you had brown/dark brown eyes people might not have. But it must be a white people thing. Do non-white also see you as white? By the color of your eyes (blue/green/grey), you resemble East Europeans/Balkan region, because they never have the blue eyes of the white who are from Holland, Germany and Scandinavia.
IMO as a white passing Hispanic....you are actually white. I am also white but we are not say Irish. I am Hispanic and you are middle Eastern and we are both white. No one from say England has rights to say they and they alone are the whites....though England has done this for awhile now.
the idea isn't what i am classified as it's more of the fact that i might look white to some but im actually Arab, hence being a minority in america and having to deal with racism & outcasting due to my ethnicity, although still presenting as "white"
