Sacked all the good Djs on radio 2 and replaced them with woke presenters ,total Shite now
I stopped listening when Chris Evans took over the breakfast show, poppy back for Ken but when he got the boot that was it... It is a graveyard for old crap radio 1 Djs now
Terry's Janet and John stories are mythical 😂
Same with Radio 5, lots of younger women presenters who doesn't have a clue about men's sports. In the name of woke.
@@Dapopo800 Always has been though.
People said the same thing about Steve wright in the 70’s
I was astounded they cancelled his fantastic afternoon show but kept the diabolical Jeremy Vine show
He was the vile character that stole the Jimmy young program.
Jeremy Vine needs to be sacked. I can't stand his condescending attitude.
Maybe because he kept shtum about every other bbc d.j for 50 years🙄
Well he’s an arse kisser so fits the bill at the BBC
@ClarenceBoddicker87 If Covid comes back, Vine will be hidden in his underground bunker surrounded by wet-nurses. All while televising his every ouchy
Just defund the entire shitshow right now, why the hell should we subsidise it?
Don't pay Alexis I don't and won't watch or listen to the shitshows any more....
I’ll bet the BBC don’t have a problem with age when it comes to paying the licence fee!
Well said.
It’s not only age but racism looms large at that disgusting organisation
Very good point, crystal. They're good at fleecing Pensioners to pay their ridiculous salaries.
Or Children 🤭
Cancelled our TV license last month, don’t watch or listen to anything anymore. The BBC used to be so good. WTF has happened to another great british institution. Shameful..
What do you expect from savile's former employer and protector. Discard the finest and protect the worst.
He worked there for 44 years on a high salary...
Saville wasn’t employed by the BBC he was freelance
Former employer and protector?
What have King Charles and Thatcher been up to now?
His brother said he was actually tired and was ready to go.
💉 damage 💔
Thank you Steve for all the happy memories. Listened to you back in the 80s till present and loved your Steve Wright in the afternoon show it was brilliant. Im 62 now. You brought so much happiness to all your listeners. You were a true professional and will be so sadly missed by all your followers. RIP Steve.
I so agree with you xx
Well said, great laughs, nothing like it now. Rip Steve, so many happy memories, as you said.
I loved Steve wright, he was a legend!!.
my husband and i dont listen to radio 2 any more. they remived all the great presenters
And g b news 😊
They removed them too.
@waltersobchak1719boom radio
He was that good she got rid of him and we now have Scott Boring Mills 😢.
Scott Mills is a terrible presenter.
Did you know he had a husband,he rarely mentions it.
Scott's one saving grace was he generously played Steve's theme tune and did a non stop oldies to pay tribute. I did not hear this myself; my son played the recording of it. Afraid I stopped listening to the radio four years ago.
Scott Mills is so unbelievably boring. I can't believe they got rid of their best talent and replaced him with this vacuous and talentless bore. I never listen now.
@@lillymay3632 He messed that up there was radio silence between some tracks.
Steve Wright made playing records look like genius.
Mind over matter here. The man no longer had an objective. No matter what any doctor or specialist says, you have to have a reason to exist and if your reason is radio, which love him or hate him the man did very well, is taken from you , what else is there? I listened to Steve throughout my career from 16 to 50 years old. He was on the radio everyday from the Radio 1 roadshow in the 80's to the afternoon slot in the 90's and beyond. In fact I listened to his last show on R2 and I'm not ashamed to say that I shed a tear and it brought back lots of memories for me of my earlier years. There is a simple saying here, If it ain't broke don't fix it. RIP Steve, the old woman, Mr Angry, Elvis, Mr Spoons etc. It'll be a ball when I get to the bar upstairs pal and I'll buy YOU one for all the happiness you brought into our families lives. 275/385 the happy sound. Nice to see Mr Bruce, Mr Allinson, Mr Goodier, Mr Mayo and Mr Gambaccini on GHR.
What a moving comment, thank you! ❤❤
Greatest hits for me, no more BBC me
The BBC is ageist, but most of us went with Ken to Greatest Hits Radio! Finding it a bonus that it was the home of Simon Mayo!
Some of us followed Simon
We moved over too and then Ken joined 😊
Used to love Simon Mayo and his letters. I laughed so hard in the car I nearly crashed.
When Steve finished his final show back in Sep 22 I never returned to Radio 2 listen to Scott Mills and went elsewhere. I did however tune in for Steve's Sunday Love Songs.
Steve was professional and dedicated his life to his shows and had his listeners at heart all the time.
He will be a hard act to follow and is truly a radio legend.
RIP Steve you will sadly me missed. 23:30
A true giant amongst men. There will never be another as unique and entertaining as Steve. RIP legend ❤
I cancelled my license years ago! TO HELL WITH THE bbc!
Right on!!
Could you explain how you cancelled your TV licence, and get away with it so I can do the same
@@Alan-gh8X Really?
Getting away with it? lol I don`t watch live tv as it`s broadcasted! EVER! I went to the tv licensing website and cancelled it there! Then i stopped my direct debit from my bank! I received a letter explaining that i need a license for blah blah blah! I pulled my aerial out of the tv and then done a manufacture reset and auto tuned it for my dvd or pc monitor! @@Alan-gh8X
Knocking on 17 years for me lol 😂 😂
they are white old and talented not black muslim and rap fanatics
Have they signed Mr Tumble to present The BBC Asian Network breakfast show and also has he got a slot on BBC 1 Xtra rap show??
That is brilliant news 📰 👍
There's no need to bring race into this,
I haven’t look on my channel and my music
@@francescostello1377 You are right. You should tell the infamous BBC to stop with the racism
Exactly. Let's not play decent music by real talent, we want music about guns, killing and gangs. So say the protectors of Saville.
Radio 2 is killing itself! It’s on a downward spiral fast 🤔😢 about time the new boss quit!
Sacked you mean
What comes around around goes around
AND the Rest of the Staff should be SACKED
Loved Steve, He was soooooo funny and you would really laugh out load as he and his characters were a scream. He should have kept that show for the rest of his life.
Ask Elvis, Mr Angry, Old Woman it was brilliant lol 😂 😂
@@freddysquirenaranjo4859 TOTALLY brilliant Freddy. I often found myself giggling and sorting like teenager. He will be much missed. Sadly I doubt we’ll hear his like again. Now all there is, is wokey pokey, agenda driven drivel not worth listening to. Wretched BBC
There is no ageism when the BBC demand there ridiculous licence fee from hard up OAP,s.
You don’t have to pay it
Helen Thomas has made several very bad choices in trying to modernise Radio 2.We listened to it for the presenters Steve Wright ,Ken Bruce etc. If we wanted the likes of Scott Mills, Rylan etc we would go to Radio 1 for their type of presenting. I expect she will get rid of Michael Balls Sunday show next. Shame on you Helen, I don't know how you have the brass neck to pay tribute to Steve Wright after what you did to him
She's probably a Guardian reader (a Covert Narcissist), so she'll push out Empaths to get in fellow 'Woke' Covert Narcissists.
I wonder if Steve Wright was an Empath (not 'Woke'), and this would trigger Woke Covert Narcissists.
'Woke' Covert Narcs live in a 'Narcissist Fantasy World' of opposites....due to the twisted mindset.
If he said anything based in Reality, Guardian Narcissists would need to silence him.
They kept calling it a Radio 2 family over the bereavement of Steve yet were ruthless as a business in getting rid of his show
He will be surely missed. 😢
And sorely missed.
Steve’s afternoon shows were legendary back in the day
God Bless Steve Wright 😢
Radio 2 have lost the plot and hence the audience. It’s an ageist society.
Helen Thomas shame on you you lost rateings
Maybe that,s the plan ,so they can see the ratings go down.and eventually close down Radio2?.No Sooner had he passed that they gutted his studio.Heartless B,stards
She should resign out of respect for Steve and for his millions of fans. I miss him this morning. 🙏💔
Did she feed him every day, was she responsible for the fact he never ate healthily? He had a heart bypass did she carry out his heart surgery? I think not. Get over your selves.
@@gilllarr9285
You nasty piece of work.
This woman sacked a man from the job he loved and was very successful at. He was loved by millions, despite his bad eating habits. This callous women has blood on her hands whatever you say.
@gilllarr9285 bloody hell I know keep fit health freaks who have had heart by-pass what a ridiculous comment
Yes Steve Wright probably really did die of a broken heart. Shame on BBC.
And we got bloody Scott mills …..wtf 😢
Please sign the petition to abolish the TV licence!!
My heart brakes everyday the way the country is going i no longer recognise were i live anymore
🙄
I'd already gone to greatest hits radio .. Only tuned into love songs on radio 2 on a Sunday for Steve. Wont be tuning in at all now. God bless ya Steve. 💔
I feared this would happen when he lost his show. He talked as if there were lots of exciting projects but they never seemed to happen. I don't know if they were trying to force him out to save money on his contract or what. I think he was reluctant to leave because he was a BBC man and felt commercial radio was too restrictive. He was stuck doing pre-recorded shows and specials and it's not the same as doing a live show with a big team. I don't know why they couldn't have put him on at weekends with Tim and Janey, doing the same show, if they wanted a change during the week. Scott Mills is basically the warm up man for Sara Cox, filling a couple of hours now. Steve's really was the Big Show with celebrity guests every day. Helen Thomas has a lot to answer for. She stabbed him in the back and ruined Radio 2. Ken Bruce saw what was done to Steve and jumped before he was pushed.
simon mayo is thriving on greatest hits. he seems to be free to play whatever he wants and frequently plays full length album tracks. a total delight to listen to unlike scott mills boring show
Radio 2 is such a load so poor these days. I have given up listening to it.
Terry Wogan must be turning over in his grave.
I left when Ken Bruce left , straight to greatest hits radio.
Cancel paying the BBC tax, I have as the best form of protest against this anti-british woke broadcaster
Unless You were Jimmy Savile!!
Wrighty didn't provide enough ticks in the BBC boxes...shocking!
The way she pulled the rug from under him was done nastily , he could have been given a date a year in advance at least so he could have prepared mentally for it ....
I am a fan of steve wright but his boss made a huge mistake axing his daily afternoon shows. He was demoted to the weekend hosting a few programmes but it wasnt the same anymore as a result his health got worse. Its a horrible way to treat a professional radio presenter. R.i.p. steve you are a radio legend who is irreplacable.
Here's a factoid you were the best. RIP Steve.
Scott Mills replacing Steve Wright defies belief !!!
They done the same with Sir Jimmy Young, he was devastated also, he told his listeners he did not want to go but they were forcing him out, his show was great in the afternoon, after Ken's show & before Steve Wright, when it was quality, i don't listen or watch any thing now that mentions bbc.
They did the same to Ed Stewart look what happened there
They replaced j young with that creep j vine!!!
The light went out on radio broadcasting, the day Steve passed. His warmth and calming voice in a troubled world was so much appreciated ,just wish that i could have told him that.
I'm 24, and I've listened to Radio 2 from as early as I can remember. It's always been on in the house, and my father's choice of station in the car. Over recent years, it's been a station I've tuned into while driving. I drive lorries for a living, and listening to Steve Wright's show was a highlight of the day. It was certainly a sad time when he was replaced with Scott Mills. Though I've tried, I just cannot listen to it. The music choices just do not reflect what Wright played. Greatest Hits Radio is on mostly in my cab these days, as it plays the music I want to hear. Though I do still occasionally tune into R2 on Saturdays for Liza Tarbuck and the occasional weekly Sarah Cox programme.
I lived in Germany for 10 years and recorded Steve Wright in the afternoon over the internet so I could listen to it the following afternoon ❤
No license needed when you don't watch that bbc crap .
Don't forget BBC TV figures like Sue Barker.
I was always listening to Steve wright, in the afternoon when I was younger, with the kids
Full credit to Mike Reid not faking that they were bosom buddies!
❤ all my love Steve...rest in peace ❤
Rest in peace and ta ta dear Steve may all those who loved your show remember your natural expertise at presenting.big thank you from a senior young at heart like you.X
It’s disgusting how the media can throw there staff out because of their age. I can’t think of any other business that gets away with ageism. They are disgusting. BBC are showing themselves all the time they are cruel and heartless.
Biggest mistake Radio 2 ever made was axing our beloved Steve Wright. Shame on them. I will miss him forever
The man was a legend
He was one of the best.... The BBC do not have clue
"And what is the corporation saying to BBC licence payers?" - Surely the question should be 'Why are the BBC still allowed to use TELEVISION licence revenue to fund their radio stations when the UK radio licence was abolished 53 years ago?'
Surely the question should be why is a public service broadcaster paid from taxpayers money allowed to pedal diversity or multicultural ideology?, it’s far away from their original remit.
Ageism? Does that mean Lineker will be gone soon?
Steve wright in the afterlife.
What about his time on Radio 1
THE GREAT BBC, FIDDLE KIDS, YOUR OK. GET OLD & NOT BE A PERV & YOU ARE OUT🤫
You're.
Unless you're a box ticker they don't want you
£1m for zoe ball? Get rid of her and dermot 😡
They applied the same cull to Radio 1 in the early nineties, that was never the same after.
If i had a choice between radio 1 and silence silence wins every time!
I was always under the impression that Radio one was for those who wanted younger DJs and music. I'd grown up with Radio 2, even when I was young I was happy with the DJs and music on 2. I remember being gutted when Terry Wogan left, he was so funny. Rest in peace Steve and more so, hopefully soon, the BBC 🙏
It’s not just radio they’ve destroyed, it’s the entire corporation! Every decent tv show e.g. ‘A Question of Sport’ Replaced with ,’box ticking’ individuals who are just not capable. It wouldn’t be so bad if they had anything to offer.
Steve Wright was a ‘one off’ many of us grew up with him and it’s true to say has been a part of our lives for so many yrs. What I find incredible is the fact that I would suggest the vast portion of the license fee is paid for by the people who enjoy the presenters their getting rid of! I guess we’ll never know how much loosing his show impacted him but what we do know is the BBC do not listen to the ppl who pay their inflated salaries.
I know what I say or do has no affect on anything but I for one will NOT be renewing my license…I had already decided tbh but I’ve simply had enough of what’s happening and refuse to be apart of it….. God speed Steve and rest in peace…..
@BK10011 bang on there !. For many years, BBC TWO was my go-to channel for comedy. From The Goodies & Dave Allen in the 70's, Not The 9 O'clock News & The Young Ones in the 80's to Rab C Nesbitt & Shooting Stars in the 90's, superb entertainment you just don't get anymore.
Back then, over 85% of my viewing & listening came from the BBC. Today, it doesn't even reach 5%. Abysmal
@@stevenoneill7166 you’ve just listed pretty much ALL my ‘go to’ programmes! All great tv and amongst my favourites. I really have no understanding of who their target audience is anymore. Time to make it subscription and then we’ll see who agrees with their decision making of what good tv is….
Listening to Sunday Love Songs today and so sad Steve is not here anymore. Heaven is lucky to have him. 😇🙏🎼 God bless him and RIP.❤️
To be fair he was never there anyway,he recorded the shows on a thursday but i get what you mean,RIP Steve.
Shame on you Radio 2 I will never listen to you again. 💔💔💔💔💔💔
I still miss Sarah Kennedy , The Dawn Patrol
Really sad loss of a brilliant communicator. Too, too sad. So good at what he so (seemingly) effortlessly achieved, a friend to so many listeners. A skilled interviewer who was always respectful. Irreplaceable.🖤🕊️
i no longer listen to BBC radio or watch BBC tv i now listen to GHR & Kiss
I'll never pay for a TV licence
Well Gary Davies and Tony Blackburn is still there, but maybe not for long ?
I canceled my TV Licence last year, I’m glad I did, I only watch online content now
So incredibly sad.
Much loved and missed.
😢
Steve Wright WAS radio when I younger, along with John Peel. I still laugh when I remember Steve on air asking....tell me what the time is?...and someone would answer in a perfect David Bowie impersonation. Then it was, tell me what the temperature is? Heh, he was funny, silly, intelligent and played great music. I don't listen to radio anymore,or watch bbc as there's nothing watchable anymore though still pay my licence, because I'm frightened not to.
Typical BBC, and all legacy media, GB isn't beyond getting rid of people either.. It was sad to hear of his death, having listened to him through the years, but I doubt very much he died of a broken heart. Judging by his weight problem, he was a heart attack waiting to happen,
If it ain't broke, don't fox it
I wake up every morning and there is a nano second until the joy hits me that i dont pay the licence tax.
Good for you, I wouldn't if I still lived in the uk.
post experimental injection mortality rates, especially of males from heart attacks, are off the scale ...broken heart indeed
The real reason.
@@DavidSmith-ze2withat’s the elephant in the room that does not get a mention anywhere

They think they are going to attract a younger audience with younger presenters but the bbc need to know that YOUNG PPL DONT LISTEN TO THE RADIO ANYMORE 😮
❤ steve
This video has a misleading and clickbait title. Gary Farrow has no idea what the cause of death was. Steve’s own brother has said Steve was busy and happy to have left the Afternoon Show. There’s a lot of valid comment about the BBC in this video - but please, don’t use clickbait misleading headlines.
Helen Thomas should be sacked. I stopped listening when they sacked him. Surely the numbers p!I'm better when she was so ageist and discriminating
A broken heart from the safe and effective 🤔
A lot of these ex BBC presenters have moved over to Greatest Hits Radio. It's the only station I listen to now.
I remember Radio 1 in it's heyday with Noel Edmonds, DLT, Johnny Walker, Tony Blackburn, Steve Wright and all the rest, they were just great. it was such good fun. Also the Radio 1 road shows which I went to. such great times. what happened? there seems to be a campaign to destroy everything that is good. I watched Noel Edmonds give his tribute to Steve with Paul Gambaccini it was quite emotional as all the memories came flooding back.
I missed Noel’s Tribute.
@@sarahsarah4271 it was on Good Morning TV on ITV
If Helen Thomas was running commercial radio she'd be sacked with in the hour for the listening figure's declining at record speed. But because its the bb crap she gets away with it. Defund the bbc and make it a subscription and see how long it lasts
VERY WELL SAID MARK!!
There was always from my youth , Steve , every factory, building site , van driving , his friday afternoon drive time was a delight. It was no coincidence that an art pop band , KLF , said on there most famous hit , "Yeah Steve Wright pass the mike" . You see for many of us when we were younger he was the only mainstream DJ we liked . As it turned out John Peel was not a man we respect anymore. The BBC got rid of him as he was wholesome , fun , not political and decent and worst of all popular. Some of the comedy he produced on air was of the highest quality. I only heard Yeovil kid-tronic sketch on "dont touch it" [instead MC Hammer version] once , i can still remember it and it still makes me laugh , only the best can do that. I wonder if there might be some way of showing our respect , people would line the streets for Steve , but that sort of thing must respect his families wishes. I would go. There must be so many like me really upset we are never going to hear that wonderful lovely man on air again.
Let’s simply create an independent radio show where all the good DJ’s can flock to and we’ll all continue listening to them there
They did the same to Benny Hill! Who passed away soon after.
Benny was with ITV for twenty years before his show was cancelled. He'd had health problems for several years, even before the end of his tv career. Following a heart attack in 1992, his doctors recommended a bypass, which he refused. A week later he suffered kidney failure, and again refused to undergo dialysis. It wasn't long after that he died.
The BBC is in its death throes , out of touch, woked out.
Whatever happened to "Auntie Beeb"?
Mr Angry will be very very angry indeed .
He was one of the greatest
But why didnt he look after himself better
Steve was one in a million and lovely.❤
God bless you Steve Wright, you had a voice that was Unforgettable.
You were always there when I was a child, now you have gone to a place that will treasure you unlike the crappy BBC.
Rest in Peace Legend 🙏
Thank you for this. Another excellent and much-loved talent has left us. I used to love his early afternoon shows - with all the characters - and especially loved the Ask Elvis segments!! Shame on you BBC!! RIP Steve wright! 😢😢
I’ve spent 41 years in this industry and Steve was one of the most amazing lights. Any fool who throws away talent for kids is a mug. There’s a reason we loved Steve. Like Ken, like Simon it is basic stuff. We want to have a relationship with our on air people. Why is this even being talked about? It’s because we need certainty and consistency. Steve wright in the afternoon was a blanket of nice and safe. That’s what the bbc should be doing. It’s hardly rocket science. It’s love for a personality. Get a controller to bring back Ken and Simon and many others. That’s what we want from the BBC. We want our friends and not the rubbish you peddle. Sarah cox can stay though. She’s actually quite good!
Kids? Scott mills is 50 and has been doing radio for 34 years, 18 of those on Radio 1.
He was a lovely man
