Hey Kitt, I am Marion a public health specialist.
About the poop, its because of the climate. Equatorial climate is tropical and organic foods go bad faster. Hence the smells in European or northern parts of the world are less or not so strong. Also, the sun makes the foods tastier. 😉
For the expiry date, did you know that the indicated expiry date on foods and medicines is a sell by date and not the actual expiry date of the product? Except for fresh milk and vegetables, other processed foods are still edible for 6 months after the expiry date and the medicines for 3 months after the indicated expiry date. That is why most supermarkets have a disposal shelf where you can get the same foods at a very cheap price, because they have already reached their expiry date and if the public health guys find them on the usual food shelves, the supermarket will be closed down and pay fines in court.

About the poop,it's smell is directly related to what you eat,if you eat organically grown food it smells more, non organic food smell less.

About the going to the supermarket,I think in Kenya we do pop in the kiosk so often, but it depends on ones economic status.kadogo economy people go to the shops more often.

Another new thing in the UK is the self checkout in the supermarkets, where you scan your own items, pay for them, pack your shopping and go. In stores like Tesco these are even more in number than kawaida tills where there's an attendant to scan for you.

They have that in Nairobi too now, at the Carrefour at Westgate Mall; However, there's a few attendants on standby to help us Kenyans get used to this new culture 😅, he came in handy when I accidentally put in an item twice yet it was only meant to be once. Loving this exposure and openness we're having as Kenyans to embrace development.

I think the reason they are more likely to pop in to the supermarket is cause we (Kenyans) have the option of kiosks in our neighborhoods.
    So same but different. 😅

Hey Kitt, awesome episode. About the coffee, I was a Head Barista at a coffee shop majuu and the reason for the temp is that coffee in general retains its flavour at 60deg. Beyond that, it can be considered burnt. Because they are so particular about their coffee (they don’t grow it so they care more for it, they are quite strict about these rules). Having said that, I always made my coffees a little hotter and boy did they love me for it! So now that I came back home I find the coffee way too hot. 😂

The first time you experience the "tight" smile that is not really a smile it throws you off because you do not know of you are expected to smile back...wave?
On the smells, I think the air is generally drier and more sterile? I recall passing by someone mowing their lawn and I could not smell the grass.

The thing about not being able to pick up smells from food that has gone bad in the fridge is so truue!! The first time i tried the 'smell test',the food almost went up my nostrils coz i was really trying to get even a waft of bad smell lakini wapi!🤣 Normally i am known to have good smell even by my family so that was very confusing and worrying thinking i have lost sense of smell or something.🤣

I was shocked here in Switzerland, there was a shop with no attendant. You get in weigh your groceries pay and leave. And in the train you travel several times with no one checking if you’ve got a ticket. But ofcourse the fines will be so heavy if you are caught without a ticket. So you must just buy because you don’t know when it will be checked. Can’t happen in Kenya 😅

The kids party thing was odd but I get it. If you have party somewhere it’s like a wedding because you pay per child and it can be a lot to pay extra for the parents. A party for 10 kids can be around $400 to use the facility and food. Imagine paying for the parents
