They dont undestand meaning of words that they mimic, but they can associate them. Same as baby learn "mama" without knowing what "mama" actully means but associate it with a person. But even so its hard to learn associate things in right way, it requires right traning

Supposedly African greys are at the top of the smart list, but these ring necks are so talkative, social and comprehending I think that list may need to be reconsidered. :)

Can't wait!!! We had such a great time doing our Educational Exotic Bird Presentation at the Providence Preparatory School on Thursday. The kids and the staff absolutely loved it! I am sure it will be a sell out!

I'm late seeing the video, but love them just the same! I worked for Schwans back in 90, and my trainer had a parrot on his route. The house was one that he saw later in the day, so he was often out of things. Every time the handheld would beep to say that what she wanted was not in Stock, the Parrot would say "I doubt if hee got it, I doubt if he's got it" . . . Funniest thing I've ever seen. It really sounded as if she was replying to the situation.

Parrot park clipping wings isn't actually cutting their wings off, its trimming their feathers on one wing so they can't fly. I have chickens and I do the same thing. They can still glide to the ground with them clipped. It's safer so they don't escape and hurt themselves in the wild.
Yes, it saddens me when I see it. I understand why it's done but, this is an animal that is born to fly and to take that ability away would be just like taking away our ability to walk. It would be very depressing. (Like I said though, I do understand why it must be done, I just wish there was a better way.)
Of course it's not cutting their wings off. The good thing is that the feathers can grow back. But birds are meant to fly. It's their main defense mechanism. It's their instinct. It's like binding your legs together. If you can't provide your birds with a big enough aviary, then don't keep birds. (Not to mention clipped birds escape all the time, too - and are even less safe in the wild). Honestly, if I could decide on it, parrots (and most birds) wouldn't be allowed to pets in the first place. No matter how funny their talking can be and how well you think you keep care of them, this is cruelty.
Parrot park My 2 budgies used to be clipped but they got old so they re grew feathers and now there not clipped anymore, I’m very scared to take them out of the cage because usually my mom has the door open I don’t want them to leave
