  • Master Xing Yun: Xing Yun (19 August 1927 - 5 February 2023) was commonly known as Li Guoshen, Dharma name Wuche, Dharma character Jin Jue, Dharma name Xing Yun, and pen name Zhao Wuren. Born in Jiangdu, Jiangsu Province, he became a Buddhist monk and scholar in his childhood. He was the forty-eighth generation of the Linji Sect and the founding head of Fo Guang Shan (Abbot of Fo Guang Shan), the founder and Honorary President of the Buddha's Light International Association (BLA), and the Honorary President of the World Association of Buddhists (WABA), and was honoured to be known as Master Xing Yun.
    He moved to Taiwan in early 1949. He was the editor of the monthly Life magazine, Buddhism Today, and Jyoshi Lenten and other Buddhist publications. He advocated ‘Buddhism for Humanity’ and was the founder of the Lin Chi Sect of Buddhism in China, founded Fo Guang Shan in 1967, and has established more than 300 temples and monasteries and 16 Buddhist colleges all over the world, as well as founding Pu Men Middle School, Nan Hua University, Fo Guang University, Jun Yi Experimental High School, Jun Tou Elementary and Secondary School, Xilai University, Nan Tian University, Philippines, and Nan Tian University, Australia. In 1985, he stepped down as Patriarch of Fo Guang Shan and in 1992, he founded the Buddha's Light International Association (BLA).
    He passed away on the afternoon of 5 February 2023 at the Kaisen Lodge of the Fo Guang Shan Chuan Lantern House at the age of 95 years.
