    So great to see these tools restored. I am 76 years old and grew up watching my father work with these exact tools. He had rescued and restored old tools from his grandfather’s homestead which was part of our ranch. He used these tools daily…he restored them because, as he said, “they were excellent tools which did excellent work”. He used these tools until just before his passing at 96 years of age. Thanks for bringing these wonderful memories back.

    I will be following you here, too. It was so fascinating to watch you take this thing apart. To see the final finished piece in all its sparkling brass glory was satisfying. No music, no unnecessary talking, just the camera and close ups. and the natural sounds. I even hear birds in the background, my favorite sounds. It's relaxing

    Love this! Other tool restoration videos use all sorts of fancy equipment and devices that a normal person could never possess. Your video makes me feel like it's within my reach. I am dedicated to repairing instead of replacing things that break, and have a shop full of older tools. I appreciate what you do (and you seem like a lovely person). Thank you!

    So many bits and pieces and all solidly fused! I was worried they’d break whilst disconnecting them. And when you got out the salt and flour, I thought, “He’s gonna start cooking!!!” Very good outcome for your first ever restoration ! Keep at it. I’m watching this in Dec 2022. You’ve sure come a long way in your video production journey! Much more chatty and interesting now!❤️🦘👍🏻

    Very interesting! Nice close up shots and the lack of music is a blessing! I agree with many of the previous comments.
    I did enjoy the quick explanation of parts and info very much. I couldn't see the replacement part and was trying to grasp the concept of how this torch works.
    You've done a great job of making this video, I wish you the best of luck with your new channel! It seems that some of these steps could be carried out inside your house ( where it's warmer) so this is a fun winter project.

    Have watched all your videos, this channel and Mad City Modern. I've appreciated your calm narrative, and sidesteps into the procurement of your furniture pieces, but am equally pleased to see this more quiet video style - yet with a bit of humor. Happy accident that wood is not magnetic - it'd be more difficult to remove thrifted finds from the car... might need a wrench, or a blow torch.

    I enjoyed the quiet background, but here's what I was thinking. Old tools like this one are not intuitive for me, so I was wondering what the parts were for and how the thing worked. I got the idea that the long ropy job was a wick, but other than that, I was pretty lost. For those of us who are not skilled in old tools, could you add some comments or subtitles about why you're doing each step? When the WD40 came out, I had to smile; it and duct tape are the two mainstays of DIY. Maybe make that 3 and add vinegar. I've got a few old drill bits from my father who was a petroleum engineer, and I use then as door stops. They are extremely rusty, but pound for pound, they are fantastic.

    • @madcityrestorations8293
      @madcityrestorations8293  3 года назад +4

      More great comments from you. Thank you for this. Being a new channel, I will need to decide how much information I narrate and how many titles I add. I completely agree with you. I will add more text regarding what I'm doing. Part of me wanted mostly silence and as little text as possible, because my goal is for a relaxing, thoughtless video.

    • @WobblyBiped
      @WobblyBiped 3 года назад +2

      @@madcityrestorations8293 A follow up thought: If you ask viewers to read many titles, they'll not be able to follow your activity. Eyes/focus can only be in one place at a time. So, some spare narration could make a bridge between what you are doing and why you're doing it.

    Well of course I wouldn't miss being here to support your new channel! My late husband had a lot of old tools from his antique store days. I actually think I have (or had) one of these antique blow torches. Sold a lot of things when I downsized to move in to care for my mom and can't remember if that was one of the things I parted with or not Sadly mom passed away last month and I am now on my way to moving again, but it will be fun to unpack my belongings that have been in storage for 6 years to see what I actually still have. I do know that I saved a couple of antique fire extinguishers and also have some old farm tools that I salvaged from my grandfather's barn. I may just have to try some old tool restoration myself! Love your first video. My only feedback would be, don't worry about too much narration. You have a very calming voice, so even with narration, I find your videos not only informative but very relaxing and enjoyable. P.S. One of these days when things are not so busy I am going to write you with pictures of an amazing MCM floor lamp I found on the curb. It is very close to one of the lamps that showed up on your recent lamp restoration when you were scrolling images on the internet. It's an amazing find but intimidates me and my restoration skills.

    Good job, I suppose this type of restoration could come under two trains of thought. To restore so it can be used or to restore so others can wonder in its making glory. I know with brass you can put a finish on it to make that shine last longer without our fingerprints destroying it.I think anyone that takes their own time to make a piece new again or just to be admired for its making glory, is an awesome person [insert heart emoji], thats you!

    • @madcityrestorations8293

    Quick question: I understand what role the vinegar plays in removing tarnish but what about the flour and salt? I've used salt as a mild abrasive before but only with a small amount of liquid to make it a paste. It looks like you used enough vinegar to dissolve the salt and I would assume the flour is too soft to be much of an abrasive, but maybe I'm wrong.

    • @madcityrestorations8293
      @madcityrestorations8293  2 года назад +2

      The vinegar is the acid, the salt acts as an abrasive, and the flour just helps create the paste for easy application. Hope this makes sense

    Lovely restoration! I know very little about antique torches. They seem like complicated things that would be really interesting to take apart and put back together again.
