It’s because she draws fake freckles on her face. In modern day (and western countries) we don’t really see anything wrong with freckles. They’re cute. However, in ancient China (East Asia in general) they viewed any type of mark, any sort of imperfection, as ugly. You got freckles? Ugly. Acne or acne scars? Ugly. Even if the person has good features, a “flaw” like having unclear skin is enough for ppl to look down on your appearance. God forbid you have a birthmark on your face, or even a burn mark or a cut. There are stories where those ppl have been called monsters 😢 Anyways, hoped this cleared it up for you!
