My 704Z along with my 706Z are two of my favorite reels. Pen brought back both these reels in 2012-2013 for a short run of production in Philadelphia. You can spot those reels because they do not have the band around the rotor with line capacities, etc. I had some trouble with the line roller on my 706Z. Turned out it was some micro-sand causing some noise under load. If you take care of these reels they will last for decades. I use PB Blaster on bearings all the time. I’ve soaked bearings in it for two or three days and brought the bearings back to life. I’ve used a low impact hammer to hit the rotor carefully to release the bearing and pinion. I did this successfully on several old greenies that were being stubborn. After soaking a bearing and brushing it I use my air compressor to blow it out. This reel had not been taken care of properly. I’ve never had to remove any bail springs in my 9 Penn greenies and Z Rees. I converted a Spinfisher 700 to PUM just because I like to fish with PUM reels. You did a pretty meticulous job disassembling the reel. It was definitely a mess. Looking forward to part II! - Chris

Thanks for watching!
Great video. I just found a 704z on the beach and needed to clean it up.
I love the 704Z. It's my go to for bigger game casting. Thanks for watching!
