    I read V.C. Andrews as a teenager SOOOO Many years ago! I did enjoy Verity by Colleen Hoover but have not read her other books for one reason or another.

      I ended up reading the VC Andrews in a day, so compelling!

    I am currently reading through the Travis McGee books by John D Macdonald and I highly recommend them if you haven’t read them before. Some of the 60s casual sexism can be a bit cringey but the character is excellent and they are great kind of detective like stories.

    I love Donald Goines. I've yet to come across anything that is similar. I'm working on a review video of his Crime Partners book. When I looked into his bio I was floored by how closely his life resembled his fiction.

      The way he talks about his work makes me really wanted to try one day of his novels. The only real crime novels I have read are the Parker novels.

    • @CriminOllyBlog
      @CriminOllyBlog  29 дней назад

      Yeah he definitely wrote what he knew! I guess Iceberg Slim is the writer who comes to mind as similar.

    Thank you Olly! That's very sweet of you to cover the snake picture for your wife.
    I've been reading "Lair" by James Herbert (2nd book in the "Rats" trilogy) and found the same issue as you had with the snake - they're kind of limited in what they can actually do. Mostly bite people...then bite them some more. But I hear the third book is wild, so I'm hoping the rats will have learned how to drive trucks (lorries?) or rig booby-traps or something...

      It's been a while since I read it, but I don't think they manage to do that!

      'Horses for courses' but Lair is actually my favourite Rats book.

    The end Verity is probably the most improbable I have ever read.

    Like always I am impress you can read so much in a week. I only finished Live Girls which was a blast and I am reading fantasy that is a clear rip off or Red Sonja which I picked up at use book story. If I finish that I am going to read the second Lone Star an adult western. The first was really trashy so I have high hopes.

    V.C. Andrews Dawn was an interesting book...primarily written by the ghost writer. It makes Verity seem PG rated in comparison lol

    The only word I would object to on the cover of a book, and thus not read it, would be.....criminolly !! 🤭 I'm surprised I haven't been banned yet.
