Despite the atrocious conditions Liam, you still manged to get some superb footage of this historical event in the Old Girl's history...Thanks for putting in the effort...Best wishes...Bob
+Robert Masterman Thanks as always Bob. The weather tried it's best to put a dampener on proceedings, but the arrival of the Scotsman brightened things up. Regards, Liam
im 67 i can only pass down to future generations how important preserving these locos are, i remember train spotting as a lad at Hornsey Stn N London, and watching the A4s thunder pass going North and South at about 70mph, in the 90s i worked with an ex GWR fireman, he said how he hated working with some drivers as they rinsed through the coal, also it was a great sight at Paddington Stn seeing the Halls/Castles/Kings all may i ad spotlessly clean.
+bmwnasher I fully endorse you're comment on the importance of passing on the mantle to the younger generations, so we can keep on seeing scenes like this for many more years to come. Thanks for the comment. Regards, Liam
Superb footage of this historic return to steam . With grateful thanks from this enthusiast in the West Country. (Still consider that the smoke deflectors are hiddeous and non effective ) Thanks anyway l;ooking forward to many highspeed runs on the mainline in 2016.
+Henry Taysom Thanks, Henry. The smoke deflectors will always be a Marmite situation. Yes, I'm looking forward to her mainline outings, as many other enthusiasts are. Here's hoping for a positive mainline return. Regards, Liam
I would have been very surprised if you had not got to film this peace of history of this famous loco Liam, I did like your last shot on its way to Haywood. Thanks for going up there and shearing. Mike.
+antman09ful1 Mike, I hadn't been looking forward to the event, as I knew what the crowds were going to be like, but the last shot on the climb to Heywood, made the trip worthwhile.
+locomotive67 Cheers, Dave. Yes, a big thank you to the NRM & an even bigger pat on the back to Mr Riley and his highly skilled team. Looking forward to it's inaugural run in February. I think I'll avoid the stations too. Regards, Liam
Thing of supreme beauty! So atmospheric, that stroke; it's like listening to Ginger Baker - and you can almost smell the grease and steam. Bring them back into service - who cares what goes into the firebox?!

During the war, it was still under LNER management so it was still numbered 4472. After the war in 1947, the locomotive was modified from a Gresley A1 to an A3, painted apple green again, and numbered 502. It only carried this number for a short time before being numbered 103. After British Rail took over, Scotsman was renumbered 60103 and painted in a BR livery (I want to say that it was rail blue in the early days and BR green later on but I could be mistaken).
+Jake Darling The reason for the BR green and BR number is because they're trying to keep it as historically accurate and authentic as possible. The double chimney and smoke deflectors were BR additions and, since they encourage better fuel efficiency, the NRM decided to keep them.
It was painted in wartime black a while ago, This was how all engines in the UK were painted in ww2 to make them harder to see from the air, You can also tell becase it just says NE on her tender which was how the different railways were distinguished under this unified black livery
The start was amazing, steady she did it, without any sliding. She managed the weight, I'd say about 500 tons, awfully well. Same goes for the driver. Thanks for the video. Cheers.
+Den Baver Sorry, Den, that comment was rather "tongue in cheek" so to speak. What I intended was that the diesel was attached as additional load but, more importantly as a back-up in the event of any mechanical problems ensuing
Absolutely fantastic video! That is one beautiful, hugely-admired machine. Jealous from across the pond! Great stuff.
'Flying Scotsman' looking and sounding great Liam....Well done for filming this in pretty dour conditions...Best wishes...Steve.-:)
Great stuff! I look forward to seeing her out on the mainline soon. Andrew
+A.W.Vaughan Thanks very much Andrew. Should be out this week if all things go well.
Great video. Thanks for Sharing. Enjoying from across the pond

Fantastic great to see her back on the rails again .Thanks for sharing .
+Willowfs4472 Yes a great sight, and roll on her mainline duties.
Beautiful.
Cracking shots in difficult conditions Liam , lovely exhaust beat from FS .
+TheStephengthompson Cheers, Steve. I was dreading the crowds, but just glad to of been there to witness it's return.
Excellent video and sound.
Very nice set of shots Liam and she was working well on the climb to Heywood.
Cheers Phil.
+981smithy Thanks, Phil. As you know it was the only chance to see her stretch her legs a bit more, on the climb past Heap Bridge.

Excellent shots there, really liked the last shot and the noise it made. Regards Jamesandpeter
+JamesandPeter Thanks very much. Was nice to get it working a bit, on the final shot.
Hi Liam, Great stuff, & thanks to NRM for making this possible...Dave (:O)

Hi Liam, yes indeed they all deserve a large thank you,Thanks for reply...Dave

Very nice shot up the long straight in the final shot. Certainly it sounds as if Mr. Riley has set it up very well indeed.
+AndreiTupolev Sounding very crisp. Hopefully she'll be given a bit more to do, before joining the big railway.

I think you can see a bit of the green under the black paint.
The name plate is not on the engine. Wonder why
+Tornado60163 It will be carrying it's name plate on it's inaugural run in February and it will also be having a repaint.
+Marsh Steam Videos™ thanks
+Marsh Steam Videos™ What colour is she going to be?
I wonder what Gordon thinks about this
why was the Flying Scotsman numbered 502? I thought its wartime to BR number was 103.
During the war, it was still under LNER management so it was still numbered 4472. After the war in 1947, the locomotive was modified from a Gresley A1 to an A3, painted apple green again, and numbered 502. It only carried this number for a short time before being numbered 103. +1987VCRProductions What's she being painted in once she's been tried and tested? And will she be 60103 or 4472 (for the nostalgia)
+Jake Darling They're painting it BR green with the number 60103.
Ah ok. I prefer the apple green but I guess the British Rail green doesn't look bad
+Jake Darling The reason for the BR green and BR number is because they're trying to keep it as historically accurate and authentic as possible. The double chimney and smoke deflectors were BR additions and, since they encourage better fuel efficiency, the NRM decided to keep them.
where is it water tender?
Brian joe the water tender was too much money to run
I almost hear her saying: "I'm back, bitches!"
its would be amazing if gorden came too
Just stop.
Why is the *FLYING SCOTSMAN* black?
It was painted in wartime black a while ago, This was how all engines in the UK were painted in ww2 to make them harder to see from the air, You can also tell becase it just says NE on her tender which was how the different railways were distinguished under this unified black livery
I like it when Flying Scotsman is jet-black.
nice
+Dj Den Kot Thanks =)
Was the Diesel helping?
+Carl Napp Only with heating & braking.
The start was amazing, steady she did it, without any sliding. She managed
the weight, I'd say about 500 tons, awfully well. Same goes for the driver.
Thanks for the video.
Cheers.
why is there a diesel engine attached?
+Den Baver To create drag :)
+Henry Taysom to help with braking?
+Den Baver Sorry, Den, that comment was rather "tongue in cheek" so to speak. What I intended was that the diesel was attached as additional load but, more importantly as a back-up in the event of any mechanical problems ensuing
+Henry Taysom ah thank y
+Den Baver Not to mention to use as a generator for the power in all the modern cars.
