Είσαι μεγάλος. Amazing video and as a Greek I also knew Haiti was the first country to recognise the modern Greek state after it liberated itself from Ottoman rule. Now I learned something about Haiti too through your video.
@@freedomisfromtruth It would be beneficial for you to research history because you have given incorrect information. The Ottomans besieged Vienna for the second time in 1683 and were unsuccessful. Not only Poland, but also Austria, Holy Roman Empire of the German Nations, Saxony, and Bavaria along with a total of 8 kingdoms, were able to stop the Ottomans. As a result, the Ottomans lost territory for the first time in their history with the Treaty of Karlowitz. There is no connection between the 2nd Siege of Vienna and the separation of Greece from the Ottoman Empire. England, France and Russia played a major role in the Greeks' secession from the Ottoman Empire.Without them, the Greek struggle would have failed. With the Treaty of Adrianople signed at the end of the Ottoman-Russian War in 1829, the independence of the Greeks from the Ottomans was ensured. There was no war between the Ottomans and Poland in 1863.
This was such an important time to share this. Many travel youtubers only show the gangs, and while they may mention a few kind and helpful people, they mostly only show the violence. You showed us not just the true people of Haiti, and their resilience, but also their history. Thank you
Before telling a false story, I recommend you investigate better, saying that Haiti helped the Dominicans to be free by uniting with them is like saying that the Ottomans helped the Greeks to be free by uniting with them, since before the French took over the western part of the island, since the 1600s the inhabitants of the eastern part of the island were known as Dominicans, when the Dominicans declared their independence from Spain immediately the Haitians invaded and committed many atrocities, forced labor, prohibition of Spanish and Christianity, many massacres among other things, after 22 years of occupation the Dominicans became independent from Haiti, and they continued trying to invade them but failing, the Dominicas are not racist, it is the historical resentment against the Haitians as well as the Greeks against the Turks, they in Dominican have free health and education, but it comes from the taxes of the Dominicans, but they tell their version of the story for convenience, it is like saying that the Ottomans came against the Greeks to free them, investigate more please
@@laurentkarl9868 mainly from writings by former high-ranking military personnel of Boyer, where when Haiti achieved independence he wanted to distribute the eastern part between him and his military to keep his counterparts happy and satisfied so that they would not overthrow him, also to be able to settle more easily the debt with France, when the eastern part of the island became independent from Spain, the opportunity fell like a glove
Sounds like he got the history from the people in the country, not an independent source. He has done this before and Im like What, how did you conclude that.
No, Haiti did not help the Dominican Republic obtain its independence. In fact, after the Dominican Republic declared its independence from Spain in 1821 (referred to as the short-lived *Ephemeral Independence*), Haiti, under the leadership of Jean-Pierre Boyer, invaded and occupied the eastern part of the island (today's Dominican Republic) from 1822 to 1844. During this period, the Haitian government imposed its control over the Dominican population, which led to tensions due to differences in language, culture, and policies such as land redistribution. This occupation lasted for 22 years and ended with the Dominican War of Independence in 1844, which was led by Juan Pablo Duarte and the Trinitarios, a group that fought to free the Dominican Republic from Haitian rule. Therefore, instead of helping, Haiti's occupation became one of the main reasons Dominicans sought their independence in 1844.
That place looks chaotic. I’ve been to the DR in Santo Domingo. Even though it’s not Haiti, there are some similarities. As a gringa, I felt very awkward. You really do stand out.

Wow, the refugee camp was hard to watch. Timmy looked very shook up, glad you are staying safe and humble. Thanks for showing this and the reminder that we are not more or less, just born in a different location with better possibilities.
Haití situation is very sad. But Timmy get your historic facts straight, saying that Haití helped Dominican get their freedom is like saying the Turks were helping Greece to get theirs.
Spot on, the Haitian invasion of Santo Domingo was nothing but a rape, there is a reason if the Dominican Republic Independence Day is celebrated on February 27, the day of revolt against Haitian occupation.
Haiti's first invasion was bad but it was under the belief of freeing the slaves in DR. They would meet with DR officials to unite the island and create a giant free society. Alot of people I see try to focus on the fact that Haiti initially invaded the DR which I understand. But the ideology behind it was similar to the North of the U.S. wanting to invade the south, to end slavery. As the first Haitian occupation slavery and other racially driven policies would be reinstated in the DR.
@@Seballer22BS. Haitians tried to enslave to pay their debt to france and xtermiinate Dominicans (look up beheadings of Moca and other similar events). They seen us as "inferior" and what to extend the physical limits of their country nothing more

You as a Greek, saying that the Haitians helped the Dominicans to be free by uniting with them is like saying that the Ottomans themselves helped the Greeks to be free by uniting with them😂
It is true, they came in and freed them from the Spanish but also came with their own controversial ideas like black supremacy. His is what led to their revolution
They didn’t free us from the Spanish, the Spanish and Dominicans of that time were one, there was no difference made, systematically nor politically, the same question occurs with Cuba, what was a Cuban and what was a Spaniard at the time of the Cuban mambises? Explain this, well I tel you it was based on vague loyalties, anyone could have been a Cuban or a “Spaniard” some went back and forth and had family in both regions, this is like Alaska being taken by Russia and saying it was freed by America, well are those Alaskans going to be Russian now? Or are they still American, exactly…

Haiti has more millionaires per capita than most other countries in the Caribbean or Latin America. Something like 10,000 millionaires with a population of 11 million. You say half a billion was donated to Haiti after the earthquake but never invested in infrastructure. That money went to the millionaires and the elite oligarchy, which is corrupt. Well my friend, Haitians did not help the Dominican Republic by “unifying “ the island. Research what happened in Moca, where Haitians locked everybody (including women and children) in the church and set it on fire. How is that helping?
They really think they helped Dominican Republic, Haiti was a fail state since the day one of their independence, Dominicans were the one who rise Dominican Republic, if it wasn’t because we fight for our independence, in this day we would have been like Haiti, or worse.
Yes it was wrong and terrible and in no way am I agreeing with their actions. The Haitian invasion was fueled by their desire to end slavery and unify the island. They were also afraid of the Spanish invading French assistance as it was said they were in alliance with the idea. Immediately after being kicked out the white upper class Dominicans would immediately reinforce slavery and put black Dominicans under poor conditions. Please stop leaving out details that make Haiti look like this big evil country.

EVERY single time I feel like an ungrateful pos I will remember this video and the current state of Haiti. Sometimes we don’t appreciate the smallest things when they can mean the biggest things to others like the simple concept of safety.
I find it ironic that so many criticize the Dominican Republic for enforcing its border laws, yet no other country in the world does as much for the Haitian people. Instead of pointing fingers, the world should stop talking and start doing more to help Haiti. Another thing - If the Dominican Republic heeds the calls for unifying with Haiti, the entire island could resemble Haiti’s current state within a decade. What then?
Why should DR be forced to unify with Haiti?! That’s like asking any country in the world that shares a border to just “unify”. It’s an absurd thing to say when the overall language / religion /culture / ethnicity isn’t even the same.
Unify? Are you kidding me. It’s two different countries in every way. It’s like saying let’s unify Mexico and the USA. I hate when people say because we share the same island. We are the same people. Which is bullshit. Haiti was colonized by French 200 yrs later. DR was there 1st. Btw there numerous countries that share the same boarders are they the same people?

That's very true...and here in DR we can't help them more ..one positive data is that 90 plus % of public hospitals attendees are Haitian nationals .....we can't sustain 2 millions plus illegal immigrants, we don't hate neither discriminate them at all; we simply can't afford it.

Good to see you again Timmy. I already thought you were caught by authorities after exposing Trinidad and Tobago as well as the last blog regarding Kurt Kaz in Cuba.
You are the only person covering what is happening on the ground in Haiti. I’m glad you made it out there safely. I never understood why the French didn’t take in massive amounts of Haitians as opposed to Muslims from the Middle East. The Haitians were put into perpetual poverty due to them paying France reparations. Why don’t they go to France? They know the language and certainly meet French standards of what an asylum seeker is. Jeremy was the perfect person to represent the country and guide you through the all of the challenges that the people face. You have the right guys money. They were all well spoken and sober young men who just want an opportunity.
The French don’t care. The answer is they really don’t give a damn because Haiti actually managed to bark back against them. So they weasel all the money they can out of them and when Haiti is trying to ask for help, whoops, all of a sudden France can’t hear or see them.
We are doomed. I’m thinking about the lack of breathable atmosphere in the next 20 years. Every year has been HOTTER than the previous year! I feel rather angry. Canada gave Bjorn Lomborg's Think Tank money to help out, if you are interested, google 'Lomborg Changing the Narrative About Haiti'. Είσαι μεγάλος. Amazing video and as a Greek I also knew Haiti was the first country to recognise the modern Greek state after it liberated itself from Ottoman rule. Now I learned something about Haiti too through your video.
Do you know what year this happened, since Poland defeated and weakened the Ottomans on the way to Austria in 1863
@@freedomisfromtruth It would be beneficial for you to research history because you have given incorrect information.

😅in what history book did you see all that? You guys were the one asking for our help after we gain independance in 1804.
Four milliom plus haitians in RD is helping its economy

Haiti has more millionaires per capita than most other countries in the Caribbean or Latin America. Something like 10,000 millionaires with a population of 11 million. You say half a billion was donated to Haiti after the earthquake but never invested in infrastructure. That money went to the millionaires and the elite oligarchy, which is corrupt. Haiti may have been exploited by other countries but be realistic -- the enemy also comes from within.
..........The Clinton Foundation collected millions for Haitian earthquake victims.....then just kept it. Well not all of it....2 million was taken out and used to pay for that pig Chelsea's wedding.

I find it ironic that so many criticize the Dominican Republic for enforcing its border laws, yet no other country in the world does as much for the Haitian people. Instead of pointing fingers, the world should stop talking and start doing more to help Haiti.
Another thing -
If the Dominican Republic heeds the calls for unifying with Haiti, the entire island could resemble Haiti’s current state within a decade. What then?
Why should DR be forced to unify with Haiti?! That’s like asking any country in the world that shares a border to just “unify”. It’s an absurd thing to say when the overall language / religion /culture / ethnicity isn’t even the same.
