You need a bigger drum and more throttle to compensate. It’ll make a more consistent speed. With the rope wrapping around the drum it effectively doubles in size by the time your at the end of you run
it might work better if you make the first few feet near the handle out of bungeecord , allows it to keep a little power in it when it would slack a normal rope , and the impact from snapping taut would lessen too having a tapered reel might help to , as it would speed up the further you get sumting else you could try is weld two wheelrims together , mount that to a truck with a open diff and a jack / blocks under that side put it in gear and step on the gas and use that as the winch (use old truck as the rope slinging round after it rolled up fully probably will hurt the bedside ) will pull like crazy though

That’s not a bad idea. Maybe use one of those tubing ropes that has the bungee in it.
