If your banner swings both ways, then it's a good banner!

Great video man! I like the idea of the Bear Gladiator as a front line off tank / two-hander bannerman. Have you ever tried that?

For the frontline bannerman, do you really need the weapon spec - he's only swinging once per turn after all? Would Steelbrow not do more for the build?

I will qualify my comment by saying I have over 1500 hs on this game. Of course you can have a 120 resolve banner after all the buffs and it will not be too bad, but a couple extra points in resolve (140) makes a difference when rallying and all around (especially with fearsome on all your team), and I would disagree with the idea that the "goblin banner" falls off because of how recruiting and statlines work.
    1) It's very hard to get good ratt bannermen (hunters and witch hunters are unreliable).
    2) The mdef bannerman is too stat-hungry, and 3) the tank bannerman is not really acting as a bannerman or tank.
The best banner candidate from all backgrounds is usually an adventurous noble who already comes with some mdef, so if you give him a couple of levels on mdef, bags and belts, a cleaver (or a sword depending on his matt) he's good to fight necrosavants who are the only melee enemy they should face.
Also it frees your frontline (and I like my frontline dudes) from having to use cleavers which are only good on duelists and certain trivial fights (most duelists imo are only really good against trashmobs anyway).
You're making the same builds that someweirdsins makes by building only in terms of Chosen, where thrower duelists shine, and makes you prioritize the thrower banner for which it is difficult to find good stats for (+85 ratt and 92 res). But I have other builds to go against them which imo are better all around. The reason he does this is because he improvises a very cheap and crummy semi-tank frontline.
I build 4 1h hammer+shield+QH+sword guys and they never get hit. They tank better, deal more damage, proc fearsome... And what's more, they need the same rough amount of stats. Instead of going 100HP they can go 80HP BF if you want since they are hardly ever hit anyways, and they can use more fatigue so they use recover on longer fights. Mdef is OP.
I get why people dislike recover, it is honestly a bad perk in many situations, but the idea that 2H weapons are better because of fatigue efficiency is a fallacy, they're only good if you're thinking about berserk and kf, or stam neutral builds. Most fights are over before you need to recover anyway, it is true but it also works in favor of this build which finishes things quickly and cleanly, and has a lot of flexibility (you drop the shields against ancient dead for 2H and against necrosavants for 1H swords). The use of fatigue is to deal the most amount of damage as quickly as possible, and destroy armor+sword combo is OP. I don't need KF or Berserk on my frontline, nor do I need pathfinder to ensure I can move and attack.

i second this. ANs are the go-to bannerman. the temps are also good (orcslayer, crusader or kings guards)
the cheaper options are squires or build specific (wild man, witchhunter, ret soldier etc.)
as said - you bannerman should do two things:
      1) keep the moral high and mitigate impact to your non mentally-strong bros.
      2) support, when the banner is not needed. i mostly go for 2-tile damage, so i dont need to spec into things i dont need.
if decently build, this bro still puts out a LOT of damage, esp. with a good bardiche/billhook, mace, hammer or longaxe. even pikes and other stabbies are still brutal.
then make him a target to soak up damage, but dont use him for frontline tanking. just for backup/switching out hurt bros and temporary tanking or range binding.
      skillwise i would say:
      prio 1
      fortified mind
      prio 2
HP/def (colossus and brow and BF)
      prio 3
utility (rally, rotation and depending on your build, quickhands)
      piro 4
damage (Killing frency, berserk, executioner etc.)
why do i do this? bc i have tanks, range openers and DPS already set, so i need utility or 2-tile DPS.
and yes - imho the only valid range DPS are bows or xbows, though bows FAR outperform any CB. throwing weapons are a joke. they dont even come close to a normal warbow DPS. even legendary javs/axes. and throwers need so much wasted points.
my bows usually injured all attacking enemies before they even reach my frontline. on anything that breaks, i just 2H cleave open and half of the enemy team is braking already. i won fights with 30-40+ or warriors just bc the few squishy normal orcs caused mass panic.
TLDR: BB has many ways to play it and there isnt the ONE solutions. some builds are more specific while others are more generally good. the adventurous noble light tank dps hybrid seems one of the easiest and most reliable builds. there might be some discrepancy between me and the previous poster, but thats just flavor (aka how you like to play the game). the foundation is the same. :)

one more thing: ALWAYS start with the banner in hand. ALWAYS. this prevents an unlucky hit from breaking your whole party before the fight even begins.

    Does fearsome stack with banner?

Yes the buff to resolve from your banner is a part of your brothers fearsome check calculation
