Bit of context as well for the Antwerp goal. It was scored by Toby Alderweireld who was born in and supports Antwerp. He always said before he retired he would finish his playing career at Antwerp and now he’s brought them their first championship in 66 years.
Also he's a center back, a position which rarely scores and generally doesn't have great offensive skills. It is sort of like a center would hit a fade-away three pointer to beat the buzzer in basketball
You missed the whole story behind the Antwerp goalscorer. That’s Toby Alderweireld who had a great career and was one of the most highly rated centre backs in the world at one point. He’s back at his boyhood club, he’s a DEFENDER, and he scored the goal that won them their first league title in like 60/70 years!
This series celebrates sports that are obscure and niche. Maybe not the proper place to make dismissive comments about how many fans watch a certain sporting event?

what makes the antwerp clip better is that the goal scorer was a defender who recently joined the team as he promised he would as it was his boyhood club

I have worked at a college and from time to time had to go to the baseball field and have found several aluminum bats in 2 pieces. Weird situation in Serie A this weekend as they account for goal difference in placings at the top of the league table but at the bottom for some bizarre reason they do not. Spezia finished above the final relegation place on goal difference meaning survival pretty much anywhere else, but as their points total was equal to Verona’s below them, they played a one-off, ‘loser gets relegated’ game on Sunday. Verona won 3-1.
Metal bats break when the construction of the bat is built in two pieces joined by a connector. A point of failure that doesn’t exist with one piece bats. Breaking a two piece bat is impressive. Breaking a one piece bat is almost superhuman.
I had a one piece bat break in highschool. Not only did the barrel break off from the handle, but there was a long thick crack running the length of the barrel. I was far from superhuman, just a skinny highschool kid. It was a newer bat (at the time, 2003).
Dude I’m telling you. Your coverage of the wcws trophy presentation would be GOLD! There’s kid that keeps trying to get away from the parent and steal the trophies
Re the belgian soccer. 5min earlier it was actually the 3rd team Union who were gonna win the title, they were winning 1-0 but blew it copping late goals, which then put Genk in (shortlived) position to win the title until THAT goal.
Two piece composite BBCOR bats break a lot more often than you would think. They have a break in period, then a limited number of swings, and then they start cracking. You don’t see it in games usually bc they inspect the bats and the people will usually scrap them when they start to spider and crack.
The FIBA 3x3 is for real something I missed… live in Vienna and couldn’t make it to the final match or any of the qualifier. Bummer about it, stings to see it on a literal list of things I missed
I watch a lot of college baseball and softball and I’ve probably seen 2 or 3 metal bats break in the last few years. It’s not super common but I feel like most people who watch a lot of college baseball and softball have seen it at least once
I broke a metal bat playing SL ball, and I've cracked them few times playing softball. In high end bats, the tolerances were really tight. They usually only last a season, two at the most, when I played competitive softball.
Aluminum is prone to metal fatigue, which can result in things like airliners popping open unexpectedly. Not sure if that's the cause of the broken bat, but it's possible.
That aluminum bat he broke was the Demarini goods 2-pc which is known as one of the best power bats but also worst durability bats of all time. If it was a 1 pc that would be rare and near impossible
2:59 Are non-goalie players allowed to stand in the goal? If so...why not just have 2 players + the goalie block every inch of the goal and never give up a point?
@@gregorylagrange It could have been. However, the back official started to signal for a crease violation, which would have stopped the play before the shot was ever made. (I didn't see the game live, so don't know if this was the actual call or not.)
Yes new bats only last a season and that’s no joke, they get 400 or so swings out of a bat? Most college players have two identical bats one to use in practice the other for a game, so they don’t wear out their game bat to quick.. it’s been like this for years and I’ve seen barrels of bats basically explode, I guess in college they can just get a new bat when theirs starts breaking down so we don’t see it that much, and usually when a bat is on the verge of breaking they have some other issues with it so they don’t normally use it till it breaks in half like that guy did. Lol
Covid was a major excuse for aluminum manufacturers to get chintzy on their shit. At my job aluminum cans would suddenly burst open with a flick of the finger. Distributors told us they were rolling it out thinner. Guess it carried over into baseball bats.

I've seen metal bats break in high school baseball, too. Problem is where the barrel connects with the handle.
newer bats are often a composite and are essentially made of two parts - handle and barrel. its rare but they will split sometimes
As a soccer fan who indeed did not see this, the first thing I said while watching that goal was “is that? That’s Toby alderweireld”
Really thought he was retired

I had an aluminum bat break once as a kid, pretty sure it was just a bad bat though. Or correction, it was an OLD bat
Where that bat broke, leads me to believe the handle was composite and probably cracked or had its integrity damaged at some point. Wild stuff
It’s a composite bat isn’t it?
