    Just found your video and really impressed with the variety you grow. You mentioned frost. Do you get many frosts, and how heavy? I am trying to figure out what I can grow and where to plant them, living in the central north island.

      hey, thankyou so much. We do get quite a few frosts here in the hauraki. I tend to try grow frost resistant trees and plants but plant the frost tender varieties under a tree canopy, against a fence seems to help quite abit.

    Wait until the asparagus shoot is about the size of your finger before harvesting. You can try a smaller one in the meantime, just one or two though, leave the rest to fern out. Asparagus can take up to 4 years if you planted it from seed. It will take 2 years approx if you planted crowns. Yours look good for this time of year.

    • @monkeypuzzlefarm
      @monkeypuzzlefarm 2 года назад +3

      Plant your strawberries with the asparagus! They have a symbiotic relationship and go great together.

    Very cool garden, thanks for showing it. We have asparagus 1 year old. We are letting it go for a year or two before picking it. They are quite a bit thicker than you have there. They die off in winter and recently the spears appeared, nice and thick, and they have now grown into the tall fronds. We have a special bed for them which we weed but you have to not disturb the roots apparently. We also tried passionfruit (also only a year old) and yes our had fruit in May. Only a few and they have only just turned purple. The vine got very lush so I just pruned it all back this weekend. We have a few citrus, some fruit trees, a couple of grapes and veggies of course. We also have a white Sapote and an avocado (not sure what kind). We only have a small section, 1/2 acre in Kapiti, been here a year and a half now and started from nothing. We do see the odd rabbit. Mainly in the neighbours fields. I think they know I have a rifle so stay away which is a pain as I am keen to try cooking one!

      Awesome. I will just keep waiting to see my asparagus thicken up. It's just coming up now actually and looks thicker already. That sounds great. You have everything you need !

      @@thecurlefarm If you check my channel (mainly about cars sorry) you will find the odd garden update thrown in. I am sure I showed the asparagus there. Everything is growing very fast now. The asparagus ferns are nearly 2m tall and the stems are about as thick as your thumb. It's a funny one having to watch it for a few years before you can start harvesting it.

    You have a lovely property. I’m wondering if you could make chicken wire collars for your trees to stop the rabbits digging so close? A flat collar that you could remove later.

    Hello, I really liked your videos. Just to you know, Jaboticaba, doesn't come from Mexico but Brazil, it's a Brazilian grapetree, you can say jaboticaba or jabuticaba, is a tree native to the states of Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Goiás and São Paulo in Brazil.

    Asparagus if you cut it back to ground over winter and put mulch on top it should get some good shoots the next season. It gets better and better every year, root structure is important.

    Loving the simplicity of your berry tunnel with the rebar sides - that sounds just what I need in my Waikanae garden. Also loving the concrete reinforcing grape support - it looks like there are two pieces there? I will have to figure out how to support one of those, but potentially it would be good as something to grow above a tunnel house, for summer shade and winter sun. So many other fruit trees I am getting a bit jelly as I only have 809m to try and cram things into!

    • @thecurlefarm
      @thecurlefarm  2 года назад +1

      Yes that would be such a good idea for the tunnel house!!!! Simple idea aye. You can also stand the mesh up and have a post on each end. My friend does this and I'm hoping to video her place and put it on my channel as its amazing!!!

    Love your garden! GOALS!!!! There are two types walnut in NZ, Black and English. English is the one we usually get in supermarkets etc. Black walnuts especially, can let off lots of toxic juglone's, which can cause things to not grow well near them, actually poisoning and killing them. But the walnuts are yummy and won't harm you. Here's a cool video I found where the guy talks about how to tell when the walnut is ripe and what to do with them. ruclips.net/video/XVZ4DDfzSGE/видео.html
