No, the 6700XT equals it and that card can be had for as little as $299. Maybe some would spend the extra $50 for the 4050Ti features but FSR 3.1 and independent frame gen really closes that gap. Its a very impressive improvement and the driver based FG works on near every DX11-12 game

Ngreedia fked me hard, it was hot summer 2022 when I decided to buy 3070ti for 2k resolution, payed 1k $ for that. By the winter same year i already was feeling a little 8gb peepee close to my mouth. By the summer 2023 i already felt miserable because in number of titles I was forced to use medium textures. So, january this year I sold 3070ti and got an 6900xt, cost of that trade was 150$. That is literally the best upgrade in my entire 36 years of life. AMD ❤
I know your pain , my wife bough a 3070 for £750 and I bought a 3080 for £900, we both play at 1440p and we both run into trouble with memory, now we both run 7900XTX fuck nVidia
This is how I felt with my 3070, it seemed to age very quickly due to the VRAM so I have just changed to a 7900 gre, I chose frames and VRAM over DLSS and raytracing (waaaay too expensive on mid to lower cards at this moment in time) but also having been on nvidia for a few gens now the other thing I notice about AMD is how good the software suite is now. Very happy with the switch again.

@GuderianZ in some games it really polishes the game. But due to performance issues, even with the great dlss, I had to quit Cyberpunk. 4000 series seems great but lower than that only spoils the experience. Now with the RX 7800 xt (yep, bought it) I can have ray tracing too in cyberpunk with fsr, epic settings 😌
7800xt crushes my 4060ti 16 gig. It is about 60 percent faster in raw rasterized speed, and about 10% when using ray tracing. Keep this in mind. A quality 7800xt like Sapphire and a quality 4060ti both cost about $500 in Jan 2025.
Well yes, one should be dumb to buy either of these products. AMD's current offerings fall apart in heavy RT, have terrible anti-aliasing without DLDSR+DLSS, are kind of a headache for AI at worse performance. And the 4060 Ti is a limited 8 lane mess. Basically the only reason you'd ever buy it is if you're really really really strapped for cash and need a 16Gb nvidia. Even then, just praying for a 5060 Ti 16Gb or 5070 24Gb miracle is an option. Just wait for next generation and see, don't buy now unless your card is dead.

Path tracing in Cyberpunk ("Overdrive") is just an option you turn on and then adjust to get a playable framerate from there. Whether you're on a 4090 or a 2070. You don't NOT play with it. Ofc if you can run 4x DSR you're not running into anti-alias, but Nvidia can do 2.25x DLDSR which is as good as your 4x 4k on 1080p. The issue is you're not using that with actual settings. You just rob yourself of playing with all the settings turned on to then just pump the resolution to 4k on raster only. Which... raster only is trash, you can do 8k and it's still trash. You can't resolution your way into looking better than realistic path tracing.
@@albert2006xpsaid nobody ever other than you. Why is it acceptable to anyone to have to buy a 1440p or 4k system to only be forced to play in 1080p because that system can't handle the gimmick that is ray and path tracing at a reasonable frame rate? Once enabling that feature while running native with no upscalers doesn't drop the fps by half or more (even when running a 4090 it does that) it won't be a gimmick. It MIGHT look better (kind of) but it's not worth dropping below 60 fps for (much less the 30 you say you are fine with at 1080p). Especially if you are playing any kind of multiplayer game. Don't get me wrong. The concept is very cool, and I can't wait for it to be viable for every game. But it's nowhere near usable or even worthwhile for the VAST majority of gamers, and even the 4090 doesn't really get there in newer games at a reasonable fps at 4k, and the 4090 is wasted on playing anything at 1440p much less 1080p. The MINIMUM you should have to do ray tracing of any kind is a 4070 super. Don't tell me the 2070 can even come close to handling a modern ray traced title. That's flat out lying, no matter how your tweak the settings. Unless you want to play in 720p I guess, at which point it's not worth it for the drop on resolution. It's a gimmick, and it will continue to be a gimmick for at least 2 or 3 more gpu generations. Additionally, this video is specifically giving info for GAMING. Why bring up workstation performance when it isn't relevant to this conversation? Zero craps are given about that here.
RX 7800 XT destroys the RTX 4060 Ti. Price to Performance AMD wins every time. Other than wanting RT, there is absolutely no reason to pick Nvidia over AMD. Great video and I loved your breakdowns - especially 7800 XT native vs 4060 Ti 16GB DLSS early on. One minor note is that for one of the Horizon benchmarks your summary in the lower left flipped the FPS lows but kept the percentages with the correct cards, so it looks a little confusing at the moment. You were clear about it in your commentary, though, and the FPS lows at the top made it clear what you meant, so I doubt anyone was confused.
Nvidia "4000" series is vastly overpriced. I said that from release. The 4060 Ti is a 50, or 60 class at best. And should be sold at a far lower price point. However, NGREEDIA had other ideas after the once in a lifetime pandemic and the vast profits it accrued. Just shows what an unscrupulous company it is.

I just bought one. 2 reasons. #1, power consumption. I have an HP with a small power supply. I couldn't have used almost anything else. #2, AI. Most local LLM models use the NVidia CUDA tensor model. AMD isn't really even supported yet. I wish I could have bought something else, but it would have required dumping my PC entirely and buying something new. And I still would have been stuck with purchasing NVidia.

It's not just "oh people buying nvidia because branding". They legitimately lost the market share on their own. They need to release a series of proper cards with proper RT/tensor core equivalents and a DL-FSR that actually utilizes them. Not to mention CUDA emulation out of the box. People have done a lot of to make AMD AI somewhat work but it's a hassle and not everything does. AMD needs to stop releasing 2018 cards with more power and start releasing proper cards. When the 7800XT is as fast at Native as the 4060ti 16GB is with DLSS Quality in all not-Nvidia-spoiled-titles there is really not much more anyone can realistically argue.... yet reading the comment section people still do... Which just goes to show that Nvidia is a lot better at marketing than anything else.
GPU youtube comments are like an unpaid AMD marketing department, so you saying this is funny. Native does not look as good as DLDSR+DLSS at same performance. Native means you use the basic TAA anti-aliasing the game has, which is awful. Nobody's buying a 4060 Ti 16Gb for pure game performance. It's a price gouged way to get a 16Gb Nvidia card for local AI. Which sucks but if you can't afford a 4070 Ti Super or 4080 when the card actually came out, you don't have other options. Considering the alternative is getting extorted with 8Gb cards at those prices, it could be worse. I wish the next gen has the same pay $100 more to double VRAM option because I 100% will take it, preferably a 5070 24Gb though. That's preferable to getting more raster performance but being scammed on VRAM because Jensen doesn't have to compete with his own AI server products when the GPU competition is so bad. Working overtime to stan AMD for their lack of effort isn't helping, in fact, it just encourages them to keep dropping the ball. I have more faith in Intel at this point in the GPU market. They show a little bit of a promise that we might eventually get out from under Nvidia's tyrannical monopoly.

I mean there is a bunch of ex Play station exclusives wich are indeed AMD spoiled titles LMAO. Nvidia is the best one at making GPUs that's why the 4090 is unmatched, they just don't want to kill the whole "AMD cut prices because they can't match performance" game.
You're not wrong. Never stated otherwise, but if you're a stupid VR junkie like me.... AMD Driver issues and lack of high-end like 4090 leaves me little choice.
I'm still holding on to my GTX 1080 Ti, frankly because its still a capable card for my 1080p 60hz monitor. DLSS was really enticing to me but since the advent of FSR, I don't see the point. I got a rather sizable VRAM of 11gb, got CUDA support, and FSR and now Frame Generation. CUDA compatible software is the one thing that made me still holding on buying anything new. I hope AMD realize that they have great product, and they develop ROCm software and adoption. If AMD's ROCm become half as ubiquitous as CUDA right now, there is no reason, at least for me, to go for Geforce.

If electricity prices are very high in your country, then the 4060 ti 16GB can still make some sense, especially if you play games which aren't that demanding, and especially if you log a LOT of hours playing games. Then again, if you play so often that this efficiency advantage is going to mean a lot to you, the amount of time you spend playing games is very likely NOT healthy. I speak from experience as someone who has wasted way too much of their 30's playing PC games. Lucky for me, most of the time I've spent gaming has been in regions with very affordable government regulated electricity prices XD

Should have waited for FSR 3.1 to compare.... BTW that's a joke and a dig at AMD for never saying when it will be available, so planning like that was impossible. And now we have data from before 3.1. Which is valuable in it's own right.
Daniel, before handing out wins for DLSS vs FSR quality by default, keep in mind that Hellblade and others still give you the option to also use Intel XeSS. In Hellblade I needed just a small bump to get over 60 and XeSS did that at a better quality than FSR, so that option is always there, eliminates some of the typical FSR artifacts with a slightly lower FPS bump.
You should take into account that on AMD GPUs XESS performs significantly slower than FSR. Especially on older and weaker ones (like 6600/6650/XT and 5700/XT). So XESS is not always the best way to play games. It depends on a certain game and certain card. Faster cards loose less frames when switching to XESS.
@@stangamer1151 I stated that in my comment - if you need just a small FPS bump to get over 60 but want better image quality, try XeSS. If FPS is your main concern use FSR and live with a slightly softer image or a bit of shimmering. I didn't say it's the best option, just that it IS an option and alternative. I use it in Hellblade 2 to get from somewhere in the 50s just to a steady 60 at a better quality, if I wanted 70 FPS I'd use FSR.
Another great example showing how the memory bandwidth of the 4060 ti handicaps it at 1440p. At native resolution the 7800xt has a bigger lead and whenever upscaling is enabled hence the resolution is lower the 7800xt's lead decreases.
True. 4060 Ti is severely constrained by memory bandwidth (just like 7900 GRE and 4070/Super/Ti). VRAM OC is a must for this card, as it alone can provide about 10% higher fps.

Daniel, for me with electricity costing at >50 cents per Kwh in SoCal, TDP is also very important. 160 TDP vs 263 TDP is significant! However, between these two cards, I agree that the winner is very clear (despite the higher elec cost).
Honestly I see more people doing mental gymnastics to make AMD happen, when AMD's current lineup is a disaster that won't age well. Heavy RT breaks the card, it's terrible for AI, they don't have a DLDSR equivalent and FSR is still shimmery and not implemented with any sort of machine learning. I get it, we all get it, Nvidia is the literal devil right now when they have a monopoly and you want people to buy AMD to stop them. But those cards are just bad product. At the very least you should wait for 8000 series and see if AMD does anything competent.
@@albert2006xpThey aren't "bad product" at all either. They do what they're meant for much better than the Nvidia counterpart does at a cheaper price. AMD is also viable for work now unlike what alot of Nvidia suckers would have you believe
In Europe I can get a 4060 Ti and a 7800 XT for the same price of about 540€ but I'm not into gaming. I'm more into video encoding and Sketchup with large models with textures (not rendering), so I wonder which one is best for my use case...

Daniel, you have to test it again with fsr 3.1 nativ AA with or without fg in ghost of Tsushima, because if it outperforms without upscaling you have to try it with native aa. It looks so much better on 4K than xess nativ AA.
Its kinda crazy the 7800XT is still two months from being a year old and the 8800XT comes out in January. AMD and Nvidia are pushing hard for that one year upgrade cycle. Gamers beware how they generate consumer motivation to spend $500 on another GPU so soon. I have a feeling UE5 will play a dark part.
@@tatersncorn only the consumers can change the narrative if they keep bending over and spreading their cheeks in order to buy the buzzwords nvidia puts out there will never be a change in pricing or the market.
not a surprise because 7000 cards are massive disappointment and underdelivered what being promised. They're "competitive" now because of huge price cuts, but there is litteraly no point of buying any AMD card at 4070S and higher level.
@@f1rstlol The 7800 XT is around 48% faster than the 6700 XT, with 33% more vram, and actually launched at a LOWER MSRP (if you properly correct for inflation), and is about 100% faster than a 5700 XT, with 100% more vram, for about the same launch price (if you properly correct for inflation). These are very significant generational improvements in terms of performance per dollar. The price of the 6700 XT and pretty much every other 6000 series card went way down before the 7000 series came out, allowing the older gen cards to continue to be very competitive with the next gen cards from both companies in terms of performance per dollar.
We know what Nvidia is doing. They are making the low range cards bad value on purpose to upsell you on a 4070 or higher. And apparently enough people don’t even consider AMD that they can get away with it.
@@Henrik_HolstI am sure some people are taking into account the value of DLSS, DLAA and DLDSR. Plus, since 4060 Ti is heavily constrained by memory bandwidth (just like 7900 GRE), it is very important to overclock VRAM on this card. VRAM OC alone can provide about 10% higher framerates in games.
@@stangamer1151 some yes but the vast majority of buyers have zero clue on what any of that is and they simply see benchmarks that show just how superior the 4090 is so they go "Nvidia must be that much superior to AMD on every card"
Why not match 7800xt against 4080? 7800xt is two tiers higher than 4060ti. It is just the price being too high for nvidia but in terms of what it should match against 7800xt is like a rebranded 6800xt
Istg I can’t see what ray tracing is really getting you beyond good reflections. I don’t mean it doesn’t do anything, I havent even played a game with RT. But in like every side by side benchmark Ive seen I cant really tell which is which at least without the lable.
"I haven't even played a game with RT". Yeah that's the least surprising statement after the first one. The realistic lighting in Cyberpunk with path tracing turns it from a game to an actually believable world. Alan Wake it's less obvious because they do such a good job on their raster global lighting but it's still adding a lot of details if you can run it.
@@albert2006xpYou mention pathtracing, but completely disregard the fact that you need some serious horsepower to even run at close to 60 fps. That 4060 Ti is not gonna cut it.
The problem with the 7800 xt is it's drivers. At times, I play some older games and that is a problem with AMD software. I would rather have a little performance loss and suffer no glitches than go with AMD. As long as I'm getting 60 fps it's all good. I don't play first person shooters and don't need max frames. @@JesManVP you don't even need to. amd is notorious for overvolting all their gpus so there is a safe performance baseline. you can easily lower the voltage and not only does your power draw go down, performance goes up.
That doesn’t even matter at this point in the price bracket when you can get something that hilariously blows the 4060 Tis back out at native resolution. At Microcenter, these are going for the same price as a 3080 Ti FE. If someone offered you to choose a 4060 Ti or a 3080 Ti FE for the same price. but in every single game test, 7800XT has around 100W more power consumption than 4060 Ti. performance per watts is one of my critical purchase factor now even consider the price differences. i just checked Amazon, 4060 Ti 16GB costs 440, 7800XT cost 410, considering the max 15% performance gain in 7800XT, I will choose 4060 Ti 16GB for the 100W lower power consumption and 30 dollar higher price and around 10% lower performance. especially considering the power consumption, 7800XT costs near 70% more power than 4060 Ti 16GB but performance gains only around 15%~20%? And 30 dollars cheaper that's just nothing comparing to my daily living cost if I'm going to use these GPU for 1 year or more. in some area in 2022, my 1 year power fee for running 7x24 with 4 300W GPUs can buy almost 4 more GPUs, that's insane and is why I consider performance per power very seriously.

@@sokool3994 So they both have both f. up naming and generational performance increase. And then people are ready to pay premium for Nvidia. Which is a bit late news. Also both are useful to upgrade 6+ year old tech up to 4 year old tech level. Yikes.
@@vensroofcat6415 That's right, but even so, we are at a point where improvements are slowing down (which is sad) and where older technologies are actually still relevant. A Radeon X800 XT or Geforce 6800 Ultra from 2004 wouldn't even have the API support to boot up games in 2014.
Think I'd be leaning 4070. It's obviously yet more money, and only 12GB, but overall I think it's the better bet for the long term as ray tracing becomes more important. The annoying reality is that to cover everything off - VRAM, bus width, raster and RT performance - you really need a 4070 Ti Super.
7800xt is a better deal for me. 16GB of VRAM and it's much cheaper. With all the progress in upscaling and frame generation I'd rather buy a sweet spot product than spend extra money only to get less VRAM.
4060ti showed 163w while 7800xt showed 240 watt. That's basically 40% more power, but you also get that much more performance. So in terms of perf/watt they have very similar efficiency. Also if you want to lower power use, it is very easy to do with a number of tricks. You can frame cap and lower graphic settings which can make the GPU sip power. You can also use a thing called Radeon Chill.
The 7800 XT performing drastically better in many cases would encourage keeping it for longer instead of spending money on upgrading, so power consumption is a moot point.
@@yasu_red Yeah, you might be right. Also, you can make it spend less energy without losing that much performance, and then it is probably even better long term.

I think the DLSS " advantage " is kinda null now that FRS3.1 is out, games will get updated and its so close that it doesn't matter
I wouldn't count on many companies updating to the latest version. Your best hope is doing it yourself assuming you can do it like DLSS.
DLDSR+DLSS is still miles better than any shimmery image quality FSR3.1 can do. I wish it was better but come on, people, stop trying to justify your AMD purchases without having even experienced the difference. AMD should really do better.

I just bought one. 2 reasons. #1, power consumption. I have an HP with a small power supply. I couldn't have used almost anything else. #2, AI. Most local LLM models use the NVidia CUDA tensor model.

XESS is definitely a competitor to DLSS, FSR is a much different implementation
At native resolution the 7800xt has a bigger lead and whenever upscaling is enabled hence the resolution is lower the 7800xt's lead decreases.

you clowns were all quiet and meatshielding when the 3000 series were chugging huge watts for meager perf.
@@JohnSmith-ro8hkHow does this help the conversation?

That doesn’t even matter at this point in the price bracket when you can get something that hilariously blows the 4060 Tis back out at native resolution.
At Microcenter, these are going for the same price as a 3080 Ti FE. If someone offered you to choose a 4060 Ti or a 3080 Ti FE for the same price. We all know what you would choose and power consumption isn’t going to be the primary reason. Lol.
would have love to see a comparizon with cyberpunk not just RT reflections but RT Ultra (no overdrive) I imagine percentage differences would have been between RT overdrive and RT reflections
but in every single game test, 7800XT has around 100W more power consumption than 4060 Ti. performance per watts is one of my critical purchase factor now even consider the price differences. i just checked Amazon, 4060 Ti 16GB costs 440, 7800XT cost 410, considering the max 15% performance gain in 7800XT, I will choose 4060 Ti 16GB for the 100W lower power consumption and 30 dollar higher price and around 10% lower performance. especially considering the power consumption, 7800XT costs near 70% more power than 4060 Ti 16GB but performance gains only around 15%~20%? And 30 dollars cheaper that's just nothing comparing to my daily living cost if I'm going to use these GPU for 1 year or more. in some area in 2022, my 1 year power fee for running 7x24 with 4 300W GPUs can buy almost 4 more GPUs, that's insane and is why I consider performance per power very seriously.
it doesnt make as big a diff as people think year to year......
Undervolting: *am I a joke to you?*
@@pwnomega4562 undervolting means less clock speed to cope. 2970 to 3000Mhz core clock. 10251Mhz mem clock for the max of 165W and 47 to 65C here with my 4060TI 16GB. Huge difference especially in productivity and daily work. GPU running 16H a day with at least 6H full load. big $ savings there..
Which one if the price totally the same ? Please someone help
Remember the time RX 6800XT competed with 3070ti?
Now it competes with 4060Ti, just under a different name. Seriously, they both are embarrassing.
RDNA 3 is like the HD 6000 series from back then, where the "same" product tiering is actually priced lower than their predecessors
Meanwhile, apart from the 4060 and the 8GB 4060 Ti, Nvidia's product tiering has gone up in pricing for each tier, so it creates this awkward situation for both
@@sokool3994 So they both have both f. up naming and generational performance increase.
A GTX 980 from 2014 is still capable of gaming in 2024 (atleast, not with the biggest AAA games) which is pretty crazy.
A Radeon X800 XT or Geforce 6800 Ultra from 2004 wouldn't even have the API support to boot up games in 2014.

picked up a merc319 7800xt today for $419. cant beat that value man.
4070 super costs the same as regular 4070 tho
@@fnjydtfdtjdtj definitely not anymore, only their MSRP was the same
7800xt is a better deal for me. 16GB of VRAM and it's much cheaper. With all the progress in upscaling and frame generation I'd rather buy a sweet spot product than spend extra money only to get less VRAM.
16gb although not endless)
But the 7900GRE costs less than a 4070 and destroys it in 90% of gaming scenarios. You could even spend an extra 8-10% and get a 7900XT.
I bought a Powercolor Red Devil RX7800XT 5 months ago and dont regret it :)
240W vs 140W though.... in several years you'll end up paying more for the 7800xt if you consider the energy consumption.
@@SirMo Yup, perf/watt is very similar. Oh yeah, undervolting tends to use a lot less energy for not that much less FPS, true!
@@yasu_red Yeah, you might be right. Also, you can make it spend less energy without losing that much performance, and then it is probably even better long term.
you can see in ghost game that the shimmering effect is less with DLSS on vs native 1440p.. or screen door effect if you look at the windows on buildings.. other than that i don't think there is much a difference

Probably Nvdia since they're are the best at the high end.
