Was good in his day, but after” curtains,” which was absolutely amazing, I haven’t heard any drumming with ej that that is anything but mediocre .if there’s a song you can cite please tell me and I’ll check it out. Ej has had many great drummers, I prefer almost all the others to Nigel these days. Having said that, I love nigels singing and I think he’s added much to ej s work in that capacity, even after 1975, so please don’t misunderstand he has made some great contributions since, and yes , every band member indeed shined on this song

I was somewhere around 7 years old, on the way home from the drive-in in my Mom's old wood-paneled station wagon- we were listening to her 8-track (Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, of course) when all of a sudden, "Funeral for a Friend" broke off into this mad piano intro and guitar riff - and I remember like it was yesterday, my skin broke out in goosebumps & my heart started pounding & baby, that was all she wrote! From that day forward, Rock-n-Roll has been pounding in my head, my heart, my LIFE! Elton John- you did this. Thank God for you.

This whole album, but especially this song reminds me of my childhood. I remember first hearing this song, in the late 80's when I was a little little kid. My mom were blasting this so loud, it was also a nice day, spring was coming, and they were doing garden stuff.. I remember being really crazy happy that day, because I had gotten an awesome set of Crayola crayons, and I just drew so much (still draw) and the smell of the flowers being planted lavender, everything was so bright and loud. I fell in love with the sound of the guitar, and bass in this song. I remember all of it, like it was yesterday, whenever I hear this song. ^_^

    Lyrics:
The roses in the window box
    Have tilted to one side
    Everything about this house
Was born to grow and die
Oh it doesn't seem a year ago
    To this very day
    You said I'm sorry honey
If I don't change the pace
    I can't face another day
And love lies bleeding in my hand
Oh it kills me to think of you with another man
I was playing rock and roll and you were just a fan
But my guitar couldn't hold you
    So I split the band
Love lies bleeding in my hands
    I wonder if those changes
Have left a scar on you
Like all the burning hoops of fire
That you and I passed through
    You're a bluebird on a telegraph line
    I hope you're happy now
Well if the wind of change comes down your way girl
    You'll make it back somehow
And love lies bleeding in my hand
Oh it kills me to think of you with another man
I was playing rock and roll and you were just a fan
But my guitar couldn't hold you
    So I split the band
Love lies bleeding in my hands
And love lies bleeding in my hand
Oh it kills me to think of you with another man
I was playing rock and roll and you were just a fan
But my guitar couldn't hold you
    So I split the band

    • @twelvewingproductions7508
      @twelvewingproductions7508 Год назад +1

@@rhondaeverett8284 More so because of how it was written.
in an interview with Charley Rose (90's I think) Elton was asked about his collaboration with Bernie Taupin.
He was reluctant to talk about it because of the agreement he had with Bernie to basically leave him out of the limelight.
But what he did say was very telling about the shear genius of Taupin.
He related how the song was written.
He said that he played funeral for a friend and love lies bleeding. In the time it took him to play both of these tunes twice.. Bernie had written.. near as makes no difference.. the entirety of Love Lies Bleeding.
When Elton finished he said.. "Play that again". Elton started playing Love Lies Bleeding.. but Bernie said.. "No.. from the beginning". So Elton John played Funeral for a friend and then Love Lies Bleeding. By the time he had finished playing both twice.. near as makes no difference.. Bernie had written every word of Love Lies Bleeding.
So stunned was Elton by this shear display of his genius.. that he would never play, or allow to be played on the radio... Love Lies Bleeding without the intro of Funeral for a friend.
      Just.. Amazing.
So if you have ever wondered why you never hear the two separately ... now you know wny.
Look at the lyrics and just imagine.. writing that.. in about what.. 20 minutes?
      Unreal.
These two songs should NEVER be separated.

I have a funny story with this Song Which I was completely anaware of until around 2003/4. A friend of mine used to download EJ's Songs that I still hadn't known, burn them on a CD-R and give it to me at school as a sort of gift, since we found out we shared the same teste for music. I remember he kept talking about this Song for days on end.
One day he gave the CD which contained this Song among others. I got home from school, played track by track, but since FFAF never "started", I assumed it must be an instrumental just like Song For Guy. I think only the following day, after having been listening to the CD for hours and skipping Funeral, I aciddently let it play or maybe I pressed Fast Forward button to make sure what the Song was about, and then I suddenly became obsessed with this Song, from intro to outro. I couldn't believe my ears!
I had been an EJ fan for 3 or 4 years then, and I thought I had already known his best songs. I was sooo wrong. Fortunately!

This album changed my life when I was a kid and I saw this tour at Randwick Race course in Sydney in 74 or 75. Dee Murray was my fav bass player at that time - still blown away when I listen to it. His playing and sound and prob is the track that really pushed me into bass.
