- Fall peas are hit-and-miss for us here in Utah. We have such short falls that there really isn't a lot of cool weather for them to mature it. But we still try to plant a few peas every year hoping that one year the gardening stars will align and we will get a good crop!

I grow peas in the spring and save as many seeds as possible so I can grow pea shoots indoors during the cold months.
We love pea microgreens/shoots too! We grow them every winter!
Thank you for your channel and for catching me up on SO MUCH I have forgotten.
You are so welcome
Another great, timely & helpful video Rick, thanks!
Just want to say thank you for introducing me to the Wall of Waters. My garden is amazingly far along for July 5th & have tomatoes that are going to be ripe this week, that's a solid 2-3 weeks earlier than I've ever gotten them here in Colorado.
I did an experiment this year & when our nighttime temps started above 40ish I pulled the wall of waters off the tomatoes & I actually put my squash/zuccini & beans (in toilet paper tubes) in & covered them until nights were above 50 a few weeks later & this also has resulted in sooner harvests & ultimately more yield as they are all thriving now.
Those wall of waters have extended my growing season by a solid 3-4 weeks which is amazing!
Appreciate what your shar on your channel, it's made a huge difference in my garden
You're welcome! So kind of you! Yes I love Wall O Waters. We have 4 plants that were under them this spring and they are 3 or 4 weeks a head of all the others too!
I planted some tomatoes and one pepper out in Wall O Waters in mid April and had two ripe tomatoes the week of Father’s Day. I just picked the third one this evening for dinner. It does make a big difference!
Great info. I’m going to give it a try, we love peas so any we can get is a plus. I think I started them too late last year.
Good luck!
Great info thanks so much
Thank you! I put your video out to answer questions on my facebook site. Thank you for helping us all learn what our Great Grandparents would have taught us!
Glad it was helpful!
I wonder if covering the peas with 40% shade cloth in the hottest weather would make a lot of difference? And maybe frost cloth after the first frost?
So I wasn’t sure which kind of pea this vid was about ….and I know I can research and get me answer, but I’d rather have it from someone that is truly dependable (lol)…..
Field peas aka purple hulls ….do they only yield once ….and then stop? I should know this answer because I planted them last year…..(that’s where I got the seeds from this years crop)…..but once you start gardening and are a newbie like me, a lot of things just run together 🤦♀️😆
In this video I'm talking about shelling peas, snow peas, and sugar snap.
Can you please give some temperature ranges of what you consider light frost and hard freeze?
Light frost would happen between 32 to 35 F. Hard Freeze would be anything below 30 F.
