    I think this part of the examination is only the beginning of the 3rd part!
    1) 1st practical shooting with 2 arrows - everyone has his own target - you have to hit.
    If you hit with correct technique you have to do a
    2) written and oral exam
    If you do it well and know all the answers...
    3) 2nd practical examination with 2 arrows - three archers - one target (hitotsu mato sharei) - you have to hit.
    Everyone can understand, that often only 1 of 50 archers pass this exam.

      Maybe I can help with the ending. He stands around for two hours, starring at his target. Then he takes another fifteen minutes to ready the arrow, yet another ten to shoot. He misses the target by an inch and realizes that he could have spent his time learning something of value instead.

      Are you asking how they score the shots or are you asking how the grade the archers? The shots are only hit or miss but that is not what is important. Posture, breathing, elegance and technique are what really matters.

    the point isn't to actually hit the target, which brings me to my second point , this is ceremonial, you'd think they would do this elaborate stuff to hunt or in an actual Battle field? use your logic people, common sense, though common sense is not common.......

    • @florinbaiduc
      @florinbaiduc 6 лет назад +2

      if I may, what makes you think the point not being about hitting the target? The point is to do everything in an absolute flawless, perfect manner, for getting the 8th Dan. That means and includes, of course, hitting.

    • @joselinero4248
      @joselinero4248 5 лет назад +1

      A shot, a life. If you don´t hit the target, death is absent. Then, life is absent as well. A ceremony must not be empty of meaning. It´s my opinion. You may disagree.

    • @ownageDan
      @ownageDan 5 лет назад +1

      welcome to correct me, but from my understanding the point is to hit the target without ~trying~ to hit the target

    • @rachelai2523
      @rachelai2523 3 года назад

      I somewhat agree. The point is to perfect stillness within yourself. The ability to hit the target merely serves to visibly reflect how well you can maintain that stillness and calm concentration/meditation in yourself so that you're not trying so hard to hit the target. This goes for any arts / "-do" (kendo, judo, shodo, sado). So yes you are meant to hit the target, but I don't think that's the "point" of kyudo
