Hi I have dyslexia and Irlen syndrome, it sounds like you have both too. Irlen Syndrome wasn't discovered until that long ago so a lot of educational psychologists still don't know how to segregate the conditions. It's quite common for people to have both. The coloured lenses do not help dyslexics but instead help Irlen Syndrome :)
Hey, I know i am a year late but i would like to clarify that visual stress and dyslexia are different things even though they can have common symptoms and a lot of people with visual stress have dyslexia and vise versa. I have been diagnosed with visual stress but not dyslexia (i have slow processing though). Visual stress is caused by the contrast of the page along with glare so not everyone is affected by in the brain and then that causes the “noise” or for me I can only focus on one word at a time that the rest are blurry and blue helps that. The glasses can help reduce visual stress which then helps as reading can be easier but dyslexia is more about Comprehending and processing.
Agreed, I can’t keep my place on the page and find I read two lines up or 6 lines down unless I use my finger to lead my eye. Also certain texts I just see blocks of black type but the gaps and patterns between the text is very prominent. I also see bubbles in the text like bubble wrap effect and the letters jumping up and down like it’s being vibrated. No wonder I left school with no qualifications. I initially got tested at 48 for dyslexia but found out it was Irlens syndrome, as you say it’s not the same as Dyslexia
I've only realized i have Irlen syndrome at 28 🤦♂️ I'm a visual artist & VERY particular about colors... I'm wondering what's your experience with everything being tinted a certain color for a long period of time?
I might be dyslexic. I just got these coloured slides to help me when I am reading. I might be getting tinted glasses soon. I am so scared I might have dyslexia. Edit: I got diagnosed with irlen syndrome (visual stress) about a week age. I am getting tinted glasses and having a colour test tomorrow to see what colour is the best for me.
This is scarily relatable. Never been tested but maybe i should. The amount of times ive been scolded when others think im not trying but I'm going beyond, then to be later praised because my work was fantastic, is jarring to say the least. Ive never heard of these glasses but reading out loud was the worst (! skipping lines, reading ahead, then going back, trying to focus and stay on the right line while it fks off, all in my head while trying to seem super calm n collected on the outside ( Man..super embarrassing. Ive learnt how to take a breath and just read but its not a 100% fool proof and it still creeps in now n then ( Dutch is definitely more taxing to read than English and French
Hey love, I just come across this video! Long story short, I'm nearly 40 and recently found out I am dyslexic! Love how positive you are about being dyslexic! I'm still learning to be positive about it 😅 definitely following you now!!!! Thanks for this video! I will look into tinted glasses xxx
Thanks for sharing this, I haven’t heard about this glasses before. I used to have 2 dyslexic students i wished i know about this glasses back then. Dyslexia is still quite unknown in my country (no coloured paper here) and I believe this glasses would help a lot.
It's funny because I am dyslexic too, and I don't know whether my brain has adjusted to it but I don't experience the 'normal' symptoms of dyslexia. I don't remember ever seeing words move around a page. I just have extreme amounts of trouble with numbers, I just can't comprehend them. And processing words, it takes a while for my brain to catch up with my thoughts (if that makes sense) I also have an extremely extremely hard time getting my point across and putting my ideas into words (ironically I love to write, go figure) So its so interesting to watch these videos because it is another persons dyslexic experience and it gets the word out there. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and thoughts on this topic. And to all my dyslexics out there, you are smart, you just have to work harder than others in some things, but the way your brain works and processes things is amazing and extremely unique. Don't ever let yourself believe you are not smart, because you ARE.
I am the same I don't see the words moving, I tend or skip lines, and read things over and over again I also read so much better with having my aqua overlay, I read much faster as well!
Do you find that using glasses that aren't you color still helps a little bit. I want to get some for my daughter to try... but I dont know her preferred color. But it would be interesting to see if just lessening the contrast with any color would help a little bit... and if it does, look into a more individualized lens.
yeah for me any other colour helps more than nothing! even sunglasses seem to help a bit, when I read outside i use them instead of my coloured lenses. So possibly a good starting point
Thank you or making this video! I know this isn’t late but I thought I should comment! I have visual stress and have tinted glasses, I also write on cream paper. I’m in Year 9 and I’ve had tinted glasses since I was about 10, I never wore my glasses due to people making bad comments about them so I just struggled with reading. Watching this video made me feel like I’m not the only person in the world with tinted glasses :) Mine are rose (ish)
I have had many different pairs with my first being blue followed by a dark red pair a pink pair and a purple pink mix with bifocals! I completely agree they are way better than overlays! I love reading now! I have had them for 3 years now, and they have started giving out cards with all the information about them written in the back to show to anybody who asks questions.
I’ve just stumbled across this video in time! And I love it, I’ve never really thought of getting glasses before but since I’m applying to uni and hoping to study philosophy or classics there will be a lot of reading! I’m gonna have to get a pair and see if it makes reading easier as I can only read for 5 minutes and then need to take an hour break before reading for another 5 minutes.
Comic sans is a very underrated font. Like you said, it's nice and easy to read! And you can wind up others by using it (not that I ever do that...) You are right that these glasses are an investment. Yes the lenses are expensive (especially if you're like me and have a strong prescription as well!) but the help they've given me with work and my degree is completely priceless.
I’m dyslexic too ! Actually I ‘m ADHD , Dyslexic, Dyscalculic & Dysgraphiac ( I inherent all of them from bot my parents , mostly from my dad ) My main problem are retain and recall informations , this is why I need mind maps & notes while I’m taking a test . How was your experience been a dyslexic at king’s college? Were they accommodating towards your ‘DSA adjustments‘( aka such as speech to text , mind mapping , extra time in exams and a photocopying allowance, as well as one-to-one tuition , different examinations... ) ? I’m asking you this as I got an offer from King’s to study dietetics starting from this September ; even though I already spoken with the disability student center ( they seem really welling to help me ) I don’t know if I should take the place or not .
I lost my tinted reading gasses a while back and they were very helpful. I now rely on tinted seats which I agree is aqward. Where did you get them from / get tested?
me this whole video: screeching because I relate so much and your putting stuff into words, some of this stuff is stuff I never even realized wasn't universal like the thing with crazy carpets (also my overlays are also so annoying despite being really necessary for me to read so I'm hoping to get my own glasses eventually)
hi just want to say thank you ! after I saw this I looked into overlays after this and have found out my eyes have changed since I had them tested when I was 9 and I now actually need pink to help me read
I got dark green + blue glasses! They helped a lot but they were also SUPER dark. I felt like they brought my mood down because it was like I was wearing sunglasses all day during the day and when I took them off it was night time. I'd love to get some new ones since my old ones are 6 years old or so and I have a prescription. And using computers for work and stuff I'd definitely need some.
i only recently found out that i have dyslexia and experiences rivers in visual stress. my mums a teacher so last lockdown she saw me struggling to read well. im 15, and had to take my english mocks at home due to lockdown and i failed both. i own green glasses, and its the most amazing things, i went from a fail to getting a b! my school helped me out so much and now i receive extra time for my english exams. also i've lost, 3 overlays now lol. my brother has dyscalculia and i have dyslexia
@@cutelikeluna8401 hi yes I am British, I had to go get an overlay test before doing my glasses to ensure I had the right colour. I went to a private company caled Cecil and Amy's near me who specialised in the glasses. I hope this helps!
I'm exactly the same. I don't have dyslexia or trouble spelling words but I do have ADHD and just had a visual stress test last week. So I have sensitivity to light, which makes it hard to keep my place on the page and I skip lines by accident and can only focus my eyes on one word at a time because of the glare off the white paper... So that's not dyslexia, that's Irlens syndrome.... but... they do occur loads together. Like I need the coloured glasses just because my brain struggles to process certain colours and brightness of light and it triggers migraines. A lovely extra treat to having coloured glasses is that it's easier for me to read black text on a white page, but that's not the only reason I wear them.... hope that makes sense 😅 but thank you so much for making this video and talking about it because it will help a lot of people 💖
I used to use the color transparency to read in high school. Haven't done a lot of reading since then because of the same problem was planning on getting some colored lenses. Not 100% sure what color to get. Thank you for making this video. The struggle is real.
Hello Emma, I was recently diagnosed with dyslexia, I live and work in London UK, I was wondering do regular opticians do tinted lens or do I need to go to a specialist?
interesting I didn't know they even offered these. I am reading on the company website about discomfort with fluorescent lighting. I have had that problem since I was a boy I noticed when I would visit my grandmothers house and she had a circular fluorescent light in the kitchen. I had trouble focusing in school and I have even quit jobs that had too much fluorescent light (I even preferred working manual labor jobs in the outdoors, even though I have a college degree in business). I figured out the tint was better by accident many years ago, I purchased a pair of Suncloud sunglasses and I really liked them so much, but I have prescription eyeglasses, so I have had my optician make all kinds of different tints and a pair of prescription sunglasses with the rose tint and mirror lense. For in the office I order the FL-41 L tinted lenses for fluorescent light (clip ons glasses), but I often don't wear them because I have regular glasses, reading eyeglasses now I am older and I constantly having to switch glasses. Perhaps I should look into the dyslexia glasses (I hope they have clip ons).
Hey Emma so I have dyslexia and in college where for exams I can have extra time , the paper was coloured and go to a separate room and I was wondering when u went to university if they have the same exam arrangements
Yeah in uni I got to go to a separate room which was great bc way less people and less stressful energy and yea my exam paper was coloured. so at least that seems to be fairly standard
Im going for visual stress testing in April after University starts dyslexia sucks but its not all that bad. I love to read but struggle to it takes me longer to grasp information. But hey we think differently. Kind of book fonts do you read Emma. know in my luck ill have a pink leans lol
Hi, Emma Thank you for your explanation.. I am a father of daughter who might has dyslexia. She is 7years old, but I want to know when you are young how your family support to you? We are seriously to consider how to help my daughter. Could you please let me know something? Thanks.
Best thing would get her tested for it if possible. Second best is to read up as much as possible on dyslexia in children, especially because it’s not just a negative thing. Patience with her school work will certainly help a lot when she struggles and making sure she has activities outside of her school work that she can excel at so that her self worth isn’t defined by her struggling with school work. Eg anything creative will potentially be great because dyslexics are so visual. These are just a couple thing off the top of my head, but tying to understand dyslexia’s negatives (and positives!!!) will go along way. The Dyslexic Advantage for example is a really good book to read!! That you’re already looking for resources for your daughter is the best support she can get, she’s very lucky to have you. Good luck! 💫💫
Really interesting, thanks for sharing your experience! The research seems to suggest that there is a subsample of people with dyslexia who suffer from visual stress, so glasses might not help everyone. What IS common though, is difficulties with phonological processing which manifest in difficulties with reading accuracy, fluency, and spelling. This is about the cognitive process of learning to attach phonemes to graphemes, so if you have visual stress on top of that it's understandable how it could make it worse.
I am autistic but I’m dealing with the same problem when it comes to harsh contrasts. The worst for me is white text on black paper which thankfully is not very common. On some days my brain has difficulties to process text. Maybe tinted lenses can be helpful in those situations as well. I might try that in the future.
could you make a video/tell me how to and where to buy these glasses? I clicked on the links but they are a bit difficult to navigate, can't seem to find the order button
I’m being tested for dyslexia, and I haven’t got results yet, and I have good and bad days for reading. Some days the words wriggle and form into one big word, and sometimes I’m completely fine without my yellow overlay. Is this normal?
I have very near the same colour as you for my visual stress. Mine are more pinky where as yours are more purple by my eyes. As a man I hate my glasses, pink... I find them embarrassing and can't stand the fact that I need them. I wish I'd never known or paid to be tested for dyslexia, I find the more I wear the glasses the more I lose my own ability to be around bright lights which over 35 years I'd found my own way of dealing or more like putting up with bright contrasts or fluorescent lights. I'm so pleased for you, its great being able to read suddenly at 44 but it's brought me nothing but problems and embarrassments combined as I say with feeling like need them all the time, I do. Pink fffs pink. Listening to you while I type this, yours are not pink mate. You wanna see mine?
Hello! fellow dyslexic here, I'm thinking of getting some of these for my 2nd year of uni! bit of an odd question but do you wear these sometimes even when you arent reading? the reason I ask this is because my light blue overlay almost soothes my eyes I just wish I could have that tint all the time in front of my eyes!! great video btw:)
I think it is a personal call for people to call it a disability because after all, it's a diagnosis. Nobody gets diagnosed for difficulties. I prefer to call it a disability because there is no cure for it. And if it was just a difficulty, then everyone would overcome it all the time with ease. I however really like your videos and i may be having both, dyslexia and irlen syndrome. I don't care if i don't get a diagnosis for it, i might still get the tinted glasses because i am very susceptible to migraines when reading a physical book if very bright light falls on it even if the paper is matte. Or the screen has full brightness on the phone or laptop.
I’m dyslexic and wanting to do English as a level so do you have any advice as I struggle with reading but I love reading I’m unsure if I should change courses
I am an adult with Dyslexia, i never had this offered me when i was younger, I had overlays or nothing, so for me I will invest in a pair myself. I also would say as to check out a website called "the truth about dyslexia", aimed at adults with dydlexia. Us dyslexic people think alot more with our right side of your brain more than the left, we are more visual based thinkers.
im so so late but i have green glasses and i get bullied for them and i have to wear them 24/7 and the insults get to me but is there any way i can gain confidence to want to love my glasses again
I'm dyslexic and I know for a fact that dyslexia is not being able to connect a sound to a letter. So how does glasses help? From what i was able to find, it's for irlen syndrom. Irlen syndrom also sounds ALOT like dyslexia, so i kinda wonder if you have both or have been misdiagnosed? It has never done anything for me to read on red, green, blue or whatever colored papir it was. 100% won't help me spell, that's for sure.
dyslexia is a lot of things, certainly more than just connecting a sound to a letter. for me the colours just help me read a bit faster because of how it reduces the contrast between the letters and background, softening what I’m looking at (and you’re right is does nothing for my spelling ability lolol) but I don’t think I’ve been misdiagnosed, I’ve been tested and screened a bunch of times through my education 🤷🏻♀️
@@sarcastic_fish You're 100% NOT misdiagnosed. I have watched a few videos and just from the stuff you say, I know your 100% dyslexic. I just never seen glasses like that. There are like 10 million diffent kinds of dyslexcia, so I guess it's possible some people have problems I never thought of.
The glasses reduce visual stress when reading. As most people with dyslexia have some form of light sensitivity /Irlen syndrome especially with white light or fluorescent light in found in most commercial buildings so reading text on white paper can be very stressful on the eyes and coloured glasses can reduce this and lead to increase of reading ability and help the brain process and Retain what you are reading better
The problem for me is more decoding the text than looking at it. I have never seen text literally moving. I just don't remember exactly where all the letters in a word go and sounding them out is useless because there not spelt as they sound.
what happens to me is my eyesight blurs really easy and when I’m reading I’m concentrating so we can blur alot so it makes the words hard to read, and I don’t have that great vision I have to wear glasses with a prescription but even with them on it does the same thing a little less but still the same thing
i am in year6 and my mum hasnt ever that that i have dislexia and my school is just giving me a coulord overlay and how do i get my mum to get me to have a test and my at school i had a test the said i had but it never told my mum so how do i say

Many scientific research showed that it helps reading more easily :)

Good luck! 💫💫
Thanks a lot.
The color I like for my dyslexia is bright yellow
How to choose a shade which suits best for reading ?
I am autistic but I’m dealing with the same problem when it comes to harsh contrasts. The worst for me is white text on black paper which thankfully is not very common. On some days my brain has difficulties to process text. Maybe tinted lenses can be helpful in those situations as well. I might try that in the future.
could you make a video/tell me how to and where to buy these glasses? I clicked on the links but they are a bit difficult to navigate, can't seem to find the order button
Ahhh! My names Emma, I'm Dyslexic, I have visual stress and my colour is also pink!
Where did you get your pink tint glasses from please? Liz
Thank you emma,
I'm dyslexic and after this video I decided to get these tinted glasses and my colour is blue
My colours blue too but I didn't know where to get them
Hello from Japan
My sister has dyslexcia and I want to get the glasses for her but they dont sell them here, so could I know the name of the glasses?
I. LOVE. THIS. VIDEO.
THANK U BBY
Hi my daughter has ADD and has to have blue overlay I’ve been trying to find a pair of glasses but lots knot very nice. Where do you get these from ?
hiya, in the uk you can get them via specialised opticians, best is to search for/ask about tinted or coloured lenses, good luck!
I got mine in the UK from an opticians called Black and Lizars. Specsavers and whatnot didn't have them when I got them years ago now.
Hello! fellow dyslexic here, I'm thinking of getting some of these for my 2nd year of uni! bit of an odd question but do you wear these sometimes even when you arent reading? the reason I ask this is because my light blue overlay almost soothes my eyes I just wish I could have that tint all the time in front of my eyes!! great video btw:)
looks cool, do they work well?
I am dyslexic and I can’t find glasses any where
Sounds very similar to Irlen Syndrome, how tinted lenses are necessary for some to properly visually process text.
There is also a dyslexic lamp being tested at the moment hope that helps 😄
Yes yes on that busy carpet dizzyness
I love comic sans and Calibri, found out I had Irlen in 2019. Flashing lights make me feel sick, fluorescent light is my enemy 🙁
I’m dyslexic and wanting to do English as a level so do you have any advice as I struggle with reading but I love reading I’m unsure if I should change courses
Where do we get them
I am an adult with Dyslexia, i never had this offered me when i was younger, I had overlays or nothing, so for me I will invest in a pair myself. I also would say as to check out a website called "the truth about dyslexia", aimed at adults with dydlexia. Us dyslexic people think alot more with our right side of your brain more than the left, we are more visual based thinkers.
Where did you get your glasses? I’m struggling very much. And am looking for theese
open dyslexic is a free font that you can use on any device you set your own font.
please what is the difference between purple and blue glasses ??
This is a thing!!!!!
I am dyslexia and never Hurd of this. Been diagnosed since I was in elementary I'm in my thirty's now
im so so late but i have green glasses and i get bullied for them and i have to wear them 24/7 and the insults get to me but is there any way i can gain confidence to want to love my glasses again
Im very late but I was just wondering where you got your glasses from?
How to choose a shade which suits best for reading ?
Oh my gosh! I feel sick when I walk on some carpets!!! I didn't realize that was a dyslexic thing!
Same I’m not diagnosed dyslexic though
Where do you buy them? I asked the optometrist and they seemed very confused.
what percentage of the darkness or tint is best inside?
They make those? I want those I need them actually. I have had so many pairs of glasses. But those look so nice
Where did she get her glasses
Where do I buy the glasses? Can’t find them anywhere
you need to make an appointment with an optician who does them
@@sarcastic_fish ok thanks
The problem for me is more decoding the text than looking at it. I have never seen text literally moving. I just don't remember exactly where all the letters in a word go and sounding them out is useless because there not spelt as they sound.
what happens to me is my eyesight blurs really easy and when I’m reading I’m concentrating so we can blur alot so it makes the words hard to read, and I don’t have that great vision I have to wear glasses with a prescription but even with them on it does the same thing a little less but still the same thing
We’re are the glasses from?
What country are u from tho cuz I'm 13 and I have dyslexia I would love to have those glasses cuz I live in the UK
I am dyslexic too.
I am not seeing the link to the glasses
Where do you go and get tested because I think I need them
best course of action is probably to speak to your optician or if you’re at school your special/educational needs coordinator
@@sarcastic_fish thank you I will do that and thanks agin for the advice 💜
Alternatively- Buy overhead projector sheets (OHP) and color them with glass color or highlighter . Home made overlays .
Or even file cover will work .
i am in year6 and my mum hasnt ever that that i have dislexia and my school is just giving me a coulord overlay and how do i get my mum to get me to have a test and my at school i had a test the said i had but it never told my mum so how do i say

I was wondering do these work on computer screens
Agree!

I thought the menu was just me!!!
Please review a c-pen reading pen Xx
I always read the same line at least 5 to 8 times until I can figure out we’re the next sentence is
Then the overlay will be good for you.
If tinted glasses help you, you might want to look into irlen syndrome. You might have that a long with dyslexia. I have both.
remember guys a person with a excellent memory will struggle 2 be creative / cutie
Why is dyslexia so hard to spell I have it to
We are so special :) we see the world so different 🥰❤️
