Nice video of a, one could say special car. We did a bunch of paint work on that car back about 2005 when John Chandler had just purchased it. Mainly the hood, gas tank, fenders mostly from cracking of the old lacquer. Restorers in the 50's really loaded the paint on extra heavy thinking that was the way. Afterwords we all got a chance to drive it around Arcadia Ca. and I gotta tell you Paul, That was the nicest, tightest, quietest, easiest to steer Model A I ever drove. I wish every Model Aer had that opportunity before spending money with modifications. Wonderful car but don't know the reason for that color.
Wow! Thanks for sharing that! Yea, I have had the priveledge of driving a couple Model As like that, and it makes me shake me head every time I hear someone generalize that "all Model As are hard to steer" or "mechanical brakes don't stop" etc. My fordor is a great example of what a stock Model A was like when it left the factory, and that car is an absolute joy to drive. Smooth, quiet, and doesn't wander at all. Then, I drive a "restored" Model A and it's a handful and the owner will never know how far off the mark it is.

Nice antique. Nice bar of gold on 4'wheels. Nice bragging rights.But according to relatives now all dead has a cruising speed 35 mph and you tube video says 50 mph top speed. You aren't going to a actually drive one of these things in WA state where traffic moves at 70 in slow lane ,80 to 85 in fast lane on I5 in flyover country or I 90 in the Rocky Mountain West. What is the point of owning a car if you can't drive it to have some fun in your life.
Model As are very driveable. I use mine most days for shopping etc
I've been 1800 mile trips @45-55mph... no problem taking the back roads and actually seeing our beautiful country!
Back roads idea doesn't work in Washington. There are sections of I5 in flyover country by some river I 90 Snoqualmie pass and US 97 in some national forest no back roads no parallel roads no way to get there except the highway. And 55 is not good enough. Do that on a freeway could get hit by some inattentive driver or create a traffic jam as right lane has to merge left on busy highway

I've had a picture of this car in my Model A screensaver/slideshow folder for a couple of years now. Every time it makes an appearance, I think "I need to ask Paul Shinn about that canopy". You can probably tell by the number of comments and emails you've received from me how often I violated my procrastination policy. It is nice to finally know more about Betsy.
Hahaa!! I have seen those rumble seat canopies before. In fact, there's a cabriolet with one nearby. Looking forward to seeing Betsy in person this September just before they award it to the winner. Maybe I will get to sit in it? Who knows. It is a Celebrity car!
I rode in this car, and I have to say its very tight and drives very well. The new owner will definitely enjoy this treasure. And the proceeds from this sweepstakes are going to a great museum. Thanks to all that enter to win this once in a lifetime sweepstakes.
I really wish you were the person driving Betsy in the video. It was difficult to edit this with clips that didn't appear to be abusive to the car. I don't know who this was or the kid, but I would have used someone different.
