You all have fantastic reviews … but I neeeeeeed a compare on this FR 102 vs the rustler 10 for Vermont days with enough snow to go explore the trees. I love my old Brahma 88s for hard snow days but need something easier for bumps and trees and softer snow (5’8” and 145lb former race kid).
Personally I'm much more of a Rustler fan than Ranger 102. It carves better on groomers and is more agile in the trees. Maybe I'd take the Ranger in bumps, but that's about it.
I'm gotten very unsure of the skis size after I purchased them. I bought the 183cm, im 6'0 and weigh about 155 pounds. I skied a Movement 95 fly 178 almost for the whole of the 24/25 season, and I really enjoyed it, but from my experience I was missing a bit of edge grip at high speeds and it didn't float very well. I can definitely ski every sort of pist - have been working as a tour rep for 2 full seasons, so I would categorise myself as a pretty good skier. After reading your reviews I've gotten a bit unsure, got them at a really good price in Germany, so I pulled the trigger, but im unsure if I should have gone for the 176cm. Can't use them until the season, and the bindings are on the ski so im out of luck if not they fit. What are your thoughts? I mainly ski groomers, but really prefer a wider ski, feel more stable, and I come from a snowboarding background. I enjoy carving and playing around in trees and sidehits
I’m the same profile as you. 179cm and 80kg. Just got the 183 too. Advanced amateur. Ski offpist most the time. And use shift bindings for touring. Haven’t tried them yet. Lets hope for them best.
Hi, I was hoping for some advice on deciding what to pull the trigger on as a daily driver ski for skiing the alps this season. I’m 5’10’’ and 165 pounds (or 178cm and 75 kg) and I really can’t decide between a salomon qst 98 and a fischer ranger 102. I don’t really have a way to demo them so I really don’t know how to choose. I have a background in racing which fell really short due to injuries so I know my way around carving, let’s call it an L6, and now I would enjoy a less demanding ski that can get me into pow and maybe even a little park and switch skiing (not a priority though). I think the extra width will feel nice since the alps either get fresh snow or slush these days but I wouldn’t wanna sacrifice edge hold and grip for perfect groomers that we get pretty often. I’m looking specifically into those two skis cause I can get some pretty decent deals on them, but any advice would be appreciated. Also I was thinking of pairing any of those two skis with a salomon shift 13 or a pivot 15 (for a cast upgrade in the future) just to get in some quick tours in the sidecountry. Would it be a good idea? I’d certaintly still ski those primarily in the resort. Thankyou in advance to anyone who will take some time to give me some advice!
The QST 98 has a smoother and more consistent turn style than the Ranger, which is softer in the tips and tails, so more playful in powder, although the QST 98 is an uncommonly good floater for the width. I like the edge grip and short turns of the QST. As for bindings, just wondering if you already have boots with tech fittings as those will require them. Pivot not at the moment, but converting to Cast requires tech boots. Just to make sure!
@@SkiEssentials Thankyou! I have upgraded my boots to a salomon shift alpha boa 130 for this year. I wasn’t convinced by the boa at first but trying them on they are a game changer for my tall instep. As for sizing what would you guys recommend on those two skis? I was thinking 176 but maybe the 183 would be better for the qst. Thankyou in advance, can’t wait for some new reviews.
Ha! You're not wrong! When you do hundreds of them, you really start to fall into a rhythm. I (Bob) am pretty darn consistent with the 4:45 timing--the microphone has a timer on it and I check after each one.

Are the floating enough, compared to qst 106?
Can they be used as eastcost freeride ski?
Thank you !
You are the best!

I'd have gone 176 based on your stats, but I think you'll be fine on the 183.
@@SkiEssentials thank you! Hope I’ll be fine…

Less than 5 mins, likely Bob's review. more than 5 mins, guaranteed Jeff's review hahaha. Not complaining at all, just thought it's kind of funny.
