  • We've been suffering from the 1st world problem; awning dilemma.
We have a Fiamma Caravanstore canopy which lives in the awning rail. Because it lives in the awning rail we can't use an awning when the canopy is on.
Also, it is difficult to roll the caravan store up into the bag. We're not getting any younger and it's not getting easier. With all these things considered we've been exploring alternatives.
I didn't know, until recently that the type of canopies you see on motorhomes (the wind out types) you can also fit onto caravan roofs. This means your awning rail gets freed up. So, we had a Thule Omnistor 6300 fitted. It's 4.5m long.
In this vlog I demonstrate the Thule Omnistor 6300 canopy.
Remember, caravanning should be fun. Be safe, but don't worry about everything.

    Hi Graham
A fantastic addition we have added to ours is a set of Peggy Pegs base plates for the support legs. The base plates get screwed to the floor and the legs clamp into them, then when you put the canopy away you leave the base plates in position for the next time you put the canopy out again 😃 Also comes with storm straps, works brilliantly 👍

    Hi Graham.
    Great vlog.
Brother and myself were thinking of getting these, but when we put it to the wives silent treatment.
Those clips should be ok but with most plastics the uv rays destroy them after time.
Thanks for showing us. You never know might be able to persuade the bosses what a brilliant thing they are.🤔

Had the same installed a couple of weeks ago. Used it over the last couple of weeks when we had that torrential rain and strong gusts of winds. Use it with storm guys and did not move, although took it down with the wind (coward). Good luck with it and if you use it in windy weather give a report. Alan.

Hi Graham, I'm a bit confused, I wrote to Thule to see if they supply the bracket you mention . This is the reply.
Hello Richard and thank you for contacting Thule Support
The product you are describing is nothing I recognize.
If there is no bolts or screws than I am guessing it must be glued?
I would not recommend attaching an awning to any adapter or bar that is not bolted down to the caravan as this would potentially be a hazard on the roads.
I would really like to fit one to my caravan and would appreciate your comments.
      Enjoy your videos. Thanks @@CaravanVlogger

@hutsey7 Thanks for the message. I’ll have to say, the guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about unfortunately. You can’t bolt it to the caravan roof, for a start it invalidates your warranty. I’m no expert and my dealer fitting it. In my research I saw the brackets on Rose Awnings website..

As you mention you'll improve your technique, it took me a few trips to master the manual wind out till I got fed up and brought the motor 😂 tips are when fitting and removing the handle have it dead straight to the fitting, once in relax and bring the handle down below head height to wind in or out, the legs you drop to remove some of the weight off the mount so you do want to lock the leg until your fold the leg in
I did also give my clips and legs a spray of lubricant and it did make it a much smoother and easier process 👍🏻

Great looking canopy but I don't like how they've designed the leg locking levers to stick out when in the locked position, there's a chance of catching them when you walk past. Would be better if they locked in the pushed down position so they were flush.

We have a canopy similar to yours but a fiamma on our campervan. Never leave it unattended without pegging it to the floor and or putting the storm cords on. It takes very little wind to send the canopy up and over the top of the caravan and destroy it without the pegs in. Nearly caught us out ! Don't use wd40 on plastic components, if you must but it shouldn't need it, use silicon spray.

Hi Graham, did your 6300 require you to buy an additional awning rail to be fitted to the roof, or was the 6300 glued directly on the roof. I have to say that the Thule website is poor regarding what you need to buy to have one of these installing. I am going for the motorised version of the 9200 because I am lazy and want to make life as easy as possible.
Hopefully by now you have used your awning in anger (pleasure) and your vlogs will contain updates.
    Cheers Colin

    • @CaravanVlogger
      @CaravanVlogger  Год назад

Yes, it's very confusing isn't it? That's why I went through a dealer to get it fitted. The cassette awning needs a bracket to fit into. This bracket (about £300, but I wasn't sure which one I'd need) is glued to the roof, so there's no drilling into the roof, which I was happy with. The awning bolts onto the l-shaped bracket. I hope that helps.
