    April - Yes, once the Pentacryl treated wood has dried, it is safe to wood burn (there are no toxic fumes).

    Thank u thank u thank u soooo much for sharing this video , u helped me a lot !!! I had no knowledge about wood and I bought 3 wood planks for 80 euros , I wanted to paint on them and make them as a taburet (side table ) after I moved them out of the plastic bag, they became not even and got cracked to the middle . I was so upset of what happened but now u helped me with this beautiful video. I’ll buy these things to cure my wood planks and to see what will happen 😕 I sprayed them with water as u said until I buy the wood juice (can’t remember the name hahaha) but thanks a lot 😘🙏🏻 if u have any advice pls help me

    Okay so I got a little mold on my pieces. Should I spray that mold with Lysol and scrub off? Will it permanently damage my wood if I got some mold ?

    • @PreservationSolutions
      @PreservationSolutions  4 года назад +1

      Sometimes mold does appear when you are dying wood in a humid area. Be sure there is enough space between the wood for air to get to all sides. Yes, you can spray the wood with Lysol or a diluted bleach/water mixture to kill the mold spores. The mold should not stain your wood - generally the mold is just on the surface of the wood and can be sanded off once the wood has dried.

    So how do I preserve a very thick piece? I wanna call it a stump but isnt a stump usually the bottom, root-end part?

    • @PreservationSolutions
      @PreservationSolutions  5 лет назад +1

      When you have a piece that is too large to soak, you can keep brushing the Pentacryl on until it goes all the way through the wood. Then be sure to dry it slowly. Thank you.

    I got some large slices from a pine tree my neighbor cut down 3 days ago , ive been using pentacryl and will for a few more days...how long after that do you think i should dry it before sanding and sealing? If i seal it too soon what will happen?

    • @PreservationSolutions
      @PreservationSolutions  4 года назад +3

      Yes, keep apply the Pentacryl until the wood cookies will not accept anymore (need to get them completely saturated). Then dry them slowly, especially since they are large - we recommend taping cardboard to both sides to slow the surface drying and stand them on edge in a cool area. Drying time will depend mainly on how much moisture/water is in the wood start with and how thick the cookies are. So you will just need to check the drying process - you can use a moisture meter as Pentacryl will affect the reading. Once the wood is complete dry you can sand and seal - if you seal too soon, you will trap the water inside the wood as it will have no way to escape, and the wood could start rotting from the inside.

    Can polyurethane be used instead? Is there alot of odor using pentacryl or wood juice if that's recommended over using polyurethane?

    • @PreservationSolutions
      @PreservationSolutions  4 года назад +3

      Pentacryl and Wood Juice are wood stabilizers for "green wood" (which is fresh-cut wood) and semi-dry wood (with a lower moisture content) to prevent cracking and checking as the wood dries. Green wood has a high moisture content and the products work by penetrating all the way through the wood (by soaking or brushing it on) and displacing this moisture. Pentacryl and Wood Juice "push" the water out and leave just a thin coating on the wood cell walls. This prevents the cells from shrinking as the wood dries, thus reducing the cracking, checking and warping.
      Polyurethane is a "finish" or sealer that is applied to the surface of wood and does not penetrate beyond that. It leaves a shiny or matte finish depending upon the desired look. Finishes should not be applied to green wood as they will trap moisture inside the wood and not allow it to dry. This will eventually cause your wood to rot from the inside.
      Finishes can be applied to Pentacryl and Wood Juice treated wood once it has completely dried - meaning all the water is gone. A moisture content of 8-10% or below is good - if your piece is thick, let it dry long enough to make sure the inside content is low too as the outside of the wood will dry first and "feel" dry. I want to leave the bark on the piece I am using and I was wondering if I should I use end grain sealer on one end if I plan on applying a polyurethane and displaying the other side? Does the end grain sealer stay white like paint and can it be sanded and stained as well? Also, does the bora-care affect the color of the wood? Thank you for your answer. I'm new at this and I have learned a lot from your video.

    Great video! Question, I want to turn cookies into a sidewalk. First question, can you combine the pentacryl and bora together? Second question, what would be the best way in addition to the video to preserve cookies for a sidewalk to prevent rot from insects/weather elements? Third question, in your opinion, do you feel the cookies would last as a walking pathway or degrade rapidly? Thank you in advance and any info is greatly appreciated

    • @PreservationSolutions
      @PreservationSolutions  2 года назад +1

      1) We do not recommend combining Pentacryl with Bora Care - this will dilute both and make them each less effective. Use Bora Care first, then Pentacryl. 2) After stabilizing the wood cookies with Pentacryl, let them dry slowly and completely (down below 8-10% moisture content), then apply a heavy duty exterior sealer to help protect them from the weather. Install the wood over pebbles so that there is drainage from staying water. 3) Depending upon what type of wood you use will depend upon how long it lasts. White Oak for example is hardier for outside than pine. Thank you for your interest in our products.

    I know the wood that I just purchased to use for my daughters wedding is wet and I need to treat it. The cookies are approximately 18" x 2". I need to use them in 3 months will they be ok to use even not completely dried for centerpiece displays?.

    • @PreservationSolutions
      @PreservationSolutions  5 лет назад +1

      Rene, yes 3 months should be enough time to allow these cookies to dry. The key is to get them treated right away so they don't start cracking and once treated, be sure to control the drying. I know it's a pain when you have a lot of cookies, but we recommend applying cardboard to both sides and stand them on edge so they can dry evenly. Also, be sure to check them regularly - if you see small cracks starting, then they are drying too fast - you may need to move them to a cooler area. Thank you for your interest in our products.

    If one plans on turning their wood into a bowl should they use pentacryl before or after?

    • @PreservationSolutions
      @PreservationSolutions  5 лет назад +1

      We recommend rough turning your green bowl blank first. This will prevent Pentacryl from being wasted on wood that you will not be using. Then treat the rough turned bowl with Pentacryl - if the piece is small enough, soak it in a plastic bag or for larger pieces, brush the Pentacryl on until the wood gets thoroughly saturated. Next dry the wood slowly - you can bury in saw shavings or put in a cardboard box. Once the wood is completely dry, then finish turning the bowl. It can then be sanded, stained and/or finished (sealed).
