I commented this on a Nikki video before, but I prefer concealer under my foundation because unfortunately I never buy the perfect concealer shade so my under eyes end up either looking too light or too dark. So putting foundation over my concealer makes it all look perfectly uniform. I started doing that recently and it has been a positive game changer.
I work in the makeup industry and I HATE putting concealer on top of foundation. I have tan skin and so when I get hyperpigmentation it gets very dark so a lot of my concealers have peachy undertones for color correction, even though I personally lean more neutral warm, and I feel like putting my concealer on top of a foundation makes it look really silly because my foundation has a different undertone than my concealer. I also feel like when I am looking at peoples faces when they are wearing make up, I can tell when they put their concealer on top of foundation because it’s not blended properly. I can completely understand why a professional make up artist would put their concealer on after foundation specifically the eye area, but for spot concealing I think for more casual makeup wearers it looks better under foundation. Love these videos, please keep them coming !
I have 2 concealers: one is a spot concealer very similar colour with my foundation and a lighter shade concealer for under eyes. So the order is like Nikki said and is no difference between foundation and spot concealer. Also unless you don’t have any fine lines under eyes you have to apply much less concealer otherwise everybody will look at least 10 years older lol.
Just do what works for you. The point here was that her foundation was high coverage yet she applied concealer under - there was no point, especially since it was supppperrr light.

I’m team lady Gaga with the concealer technique, because if you use a medium coverage foundation but want more full coverage/filter effect versus natural, you have to layered up and for me, it feels heavy on my face, but if you use concealer, it’s feels lighter on the skin because it’s high pigmented and you don’t need put as much as foundation, a little is enough, also when you you layer with the foundation, now you can use less product. I’ve done the “right” way and her way, I prefer her way. In the end if you are doing for yourself, it’s about preference. Lady Gaga did great! In my opinion.

I've never tried concealer first but will now, thanks to Gaga xo. I have redness and as I get older, in order to really be rid of it with just foundation, I feel like I'm wearing a mask of makeup by the time I'm done. What is the difference between using concealer first under foundation and under painting? Or are they the same? Don't some people use under painting as a technique, so it would be okay if maybe she used light coverage foundation instead of medium coverage? So I’m shocked to hear a makeup artist say it’s a cool shape or someone might want that shape 🥹; and a celebrity using that shape to make her eyes awesome- well, someone did once tell me I had “great real estate’ - then I thought ‘maybe my eye shape has pluses? I love this channel bc I feel like I’m learning “how makeup works” instead of “how to copy a look” - because copying a look may not be good for every face and most “looks” don’t work great for me… probably bc I don’t understand the techniques behind it … but I’m getting knowledge on this channel and love it … I can learn and adapt too my face - thanks for teaching us 💞 - you have such a talent teaching too

Even when I shave close, I have stubble & you can see some shadow above my mouth from hair follicles that I want to conceal. After watching guys do makeup on RUclips, I learned that some do concealer first, then foundation. That's what I've been doing for yrs & it has worked better than foundation first, then concealer. But maybe that's due to the products I was using. Do you not recommend I keep doing this? Or do you think the rule of foundation first is universal regardless of gender & facial hair/shadow/hair follicles? I have tried/still have an orange Clinique color corrector & other concealer shades between shades of ivory to light brown & I've recently found that what I like best is concealer shades closest to my skin tone. Thanks!

That would be my take as well because while this may look fine on a stage or in a photograph, in real life walking down the street, I bet it looks super heavy and mask like. She’s a professional in the makeup industry and an artist. And-of course-makeup is personal. I love that you are having an open dialogue and sharing your tips but the way this video is framed leaves me uneasy. To take a woman who has made a legacy of kindness and celebrating differences and then to be unkind to her because she does something differently than you is a choice I would reexamine.

I agree, for spot concealing or colour correction it should be done under bur when using a lighter shade I.e. for your eyes then over is better
