  • The Starboard Generation has definitely been one of the best boards to come into the SUP world over the last few years.
Its standout shape does everything well, from riding small bumps to bigger ocean swells, touring or just getting into all round faster paddling. The Generation really is a fantastic shape for a large range of rider abilities, wanting to do it all.
In 2022 Starboard increased the range adding more Generation board sizes. And now in 2023 an inflatable version of the Generation is also available for all those people struggling with storage and transport issues of these bigger boards. In this video we review the new 12’x 30” inflatable Generation, and also compare it to its hard composite brother. Does it perform as well or is it just a stretched all round inflatable board?! Watch to find out!

Stumbed across this video on tuesday evening, did live chat out of hours that evening with Poole harbour watersports to see if they had a demo,by wednesday lunchtime they got a demo in for me,unboxed it at 9:30am today(sunday) in the shop and took it out for an hour and half then bought it on a deal i am very happy with. I got battered in some fairly big waves because i am rubbish but definately can see the potential and a board that is definately better than me and i can improve with. Despite falling off quite a few times the average speed was quicker than i have ever done on my all round board despite not really trying and the prev best was on a lake flat out for aquapaddle(1st inflatable) When i did get caught too close to beach the wrong side of the whitewater i can not believe the size and steepness of a wave face that was about to break i was able to paddle out through (on knees)thanks to that nose. Thought i would be removing the shoulder strap but when getting back to launch spot there was a fair old shore dump but it was so easy to chuck it over shoulder and get out quick with paddle in hand. Lot of money but don't think i will regret this purchase!

I have the Windsup version of the inflatable one and I love it. Got the chance to catch some small waves on a lake with a sail on it and that felt really nice.

I have a lite tech Generation, thanks to you guys! Such a great board. My favorite thing about the hard board is the bottom V and double concave shape. Obviously can’t get that on the inflatable version. This year I’ve been riding a 404 Jump, but the Generation is still in my quiver!

Awesome to hear you are still enjoying the Generation. The hard boards will still outperform the inflatables any day because of the shape, but still a great alternative for those looking for an iSUP. Thanks for sharing, Beau

I just open my Generation ISUP today and took it to the beach. I really loved it.I have an inflatable all-around board and the All-Star carbon board and actually I've found this Generation ISUP more fun to use. I even catch a few waves and I'm not that good at catching waves. I'm absolutely in love with this board.

An iSUP version of the Generation? Neat!
Liked the compare&contrast with the hardboard version, and I also liked the shoutout to the Touring line for flatwater at the end.
Perhaps do a comparison video on the inflatable Touring, Airline and Generation boards? I know I'd watch it :)

Glad you liked this video. Thanks very much. Appreciate the suggestion for a video comparing the touring, airline and generation iSUPs. I'll put this to the team. Cheers, Beau

I have the composite 12'6 x 30 in Lite Tech and it is a great board it does everything I need and is great value for a composite board. The one thing I wish I could change would be to make it lighter but the price jump to the Carbon for a minor weight saving just isn't worth it. You can get a shoulder strap for the composite board in a similar style to the inflatable one which also holds the paddle which makes carrying it longer distances easy. I don't feel any compromises in the composite board on flat water.
For me I think I would be more likely to go for a touring model for an inflatable.

Thanks for the comment and feedback on your Generation. The Lite tech is great value for money, but it is heavier like you say. Still works really well!
Starboard's touring iSUPs are really great.
      Thanks, Beau

Hi Richard. Thanks for the comment. The new 2023 Aqua Marina Hyper boards are great and probably suited more to your ability and paddling conditions. Hope this helps and happy paddling. Thanks, Beau

Another perfect review. Push to shove how tourable could one make the Gen if they wanted to narrow down their Quiver ? 😂 I would love to see a video of slightly bigger surf or a shorter Isup trying to play in the same conditions the Gen would 😊. The Gen isup could really fit the bill for a pacific North America costal exploration road trip. Teamed with a smaller surf isup, I could see this being a travellers dream. Cheers

The Generation can definitely be used for touring, but it wouldn't be as fast as the actual touring boards they have. Thanks for the comment and glad you can see a good use for it where you travel. Thanks, Beau

Would love to test one of these. I need something easier to go in my work van for spur of the moment surf sessions after work. I tried surfing my Bluefin cruise isup which has quite a upturned nose but I was terrible on it.. I usually sup surf a Fanatic Allwave composite board.

Nice! The Generation is quite long, so for a SUP surf specific board, maybe think about the Starboard Wedge iSUP or the 9'5 Surf. Thanks for the comment, Beau

@@SUPboardermag Any chance your be reviewing one and comparing to a AllWave similar size??

We have ridden the 9'5 Starboard Surf iSUP as part of the SUPboarder Pro test for surf iSUPs. And we have ridden lots of different sizes All Waves as well. The Starboard iSUP surfs amazingly well for its size and is good for heavier riders over 80kg. But iSUPs have their disadvantages in the surf. The All Waves are awesome boards and surf really well. Thanks, Beau

    Hey SUPBoarder!!
I'll bet you know how to help me!
I have an inflatable SUP board, and I want to add a fin box near the center so I can try Wing SUPing. I contacted Slingshot about their new center board which is NOT compatible with inflatables and they were not very helpful at all. In fact they were the opposite of helpful.
    So how about it?
What would you recommend for attaching a fin box to the bottom of an iSUP???

    • @SUPboardermag
      @SUPboardermag  Год назад +1

Hi Sean, If you are looking to add a fin box (not a foil box) this is doable. It's not too hard to do and with good contact adhesive, making sure your board is keyed up and cleaned well before you stick the fin box on. I guess the hardest thing is going to be finding a fin box but I'm sure some Google searches will show up some results. I think it's a good idea and will definitely help you get into winging on your inflatable paddleboard. Thanks Reuben

No, not a a foil, a centerboard (fin), and I think a company called Air7 has just what I'm looking for. Thank you for your reply 🙏 😊
