  • The correct coating for your application will be determined by many factors, such as environment, temperature, durability and government requirements, such as FDA approved coatings. We welcome back Business Development Manager Andy Robinson to discuss permanent magnet coatings for specifically medical applications. Enjoy this video and as always please share and comment below. In regard to gold-plating (Au) for neodymium magnets, I’d like to add two points the audience might be interested:
    1) due to the good bonding effect of Nickel, they usually go with NiCuNi+Au.
    2) some people believe gold kills bacteria. This is due to the fact that gold is a chemically inert material, that is, it does not react or change when it comes into contact with an organism. (Something called oligodynamic effect)

It’s a well executed video. Moderator’s questions were on spot. I would have appreciated if Andy go a little more academic in answers but i guess he stayed on general ground for the audiance.
I might need a magnet that is designed as a nuclei of a bullet to go through a coil for a physics experiment. What would be the proper coating for that to be durable enough to withstand the impact at the start and also the extreme heat while going through the coil?
