Can we acknowledge that the banter between Brittany and Cody is absolutely amazing LIKE? Y’all make me giggle so hard
Cody, yeah the food chewing thing is definitely legit. So digestion as a process actually begins in your mouth when you chew. Your saliva has digestive enzymes in it that helps the food break down, as well as, of course, the act of chewing. I suffer from persistent acid reflux and gas issues… and I notice it’s always so much better when I actually mindfully chew my food. It’s difficult though, especially when I’m really hungry or eating something super yummy. Some other things that have helped heal my gut is eating more fermented food, avoiding coffee (especially on an empty stomach), cutting out alcohol and processed foods for the most part, and having early and light dinners. I leave heavier food for lunch. And of course, eating / chewing slowly and mindfully.

I’m literally addicted to watching Brittany Broski. I keep searching more videos of her but there’s only a finite amount so i have to keep rewatching her collabs with Cody.
The kratom talk hit me hard in the feels. It has caused my relationship of 7+ years to be so rocky and sometimes not even worthwhile. Being lied to for years because of your partner’s drug use is genuinely so heartbreaking. Hearing other people experience symptoms my boyfriend does and hearing about the subreddit makes me wonder if my boyfriend has posted there ever…

Cody to answer your question.. yes! Food is easier digested the better you chew it. Also! If you’re eating really fast you’re typically swallowing a lot of air, which could be the cause of the gas and bloating as well if you have that.
the chewing thing with digesting food that Cody was talking about is true, I was having issues with nausea and digestion and my nutritionist said the foods supposed to be the consistency of applesauce before you swallow. it helped!
I’ve also heard if you’re taking in too much air because you’re eating too fast that can cause awful gas too!
i'll stick with the stomach issues, the thought of swallowing a burger that has the consistency of applesauce makes me sick 😭

13:48 random thing i was told about digestion is that I guess we aren’t supposed to drink liquid right after a meal because we are forcing the food down. Apparently we’re supposed to wait 20-30 minutes before drinking anything after a meal !

kratom is so addictive I was in a 4 year relationship with someone who granted has an addictive personality, but he used kratom to stop smoking weed (he was never addicted to opioids before) and he would take kratom in a powder form by the spoonful. It didnt matter if we were in public or around family, it came first. It changed who he was entirely. I left him because of it. Luckily i'm very happy now with someone who isnt an addict.

I'm a nutrition coach, not an RD, but chewing your food properly is extremely important. It's the first phase of the digestion process, your saliva has enzymes, and chewing helps send important enzymes down the digestion track. More broken down food is also just easier to digest. Foods that aren't broken down can lead to discomfort or bacterial overgrowth. So probably just not chewing food enough but SIBO could be something to look into

I don’t think podcasts will ever go away. They might evolve. But there’s so many people who rely on a podcast going in the background. It makes work, errands, and chores so much more bearable, creates a sense of community, and has even helped with my personal mental health, as well as others. It’s been my most comforting form of media since 2015, or ‘16ish. And I’m constantly seeking out more because I burn thru them between work, chores, errands, and painting. It’s rare that I even watch an actual show, or movie anymore. (Also love when podcasts are both audio, & video. Audio is great for work, and cleaning.
