    Thanks, you solved my problem within 3 min of your video. Saw off the old bezel and file it down. I am a beader I found a lovely pendant for my niece and I want to bezel it in seed beads (Native American and I love to bead) a long with making a beaded rope for it. Playing the video until the end so you get credit for the algorithm, liked and subscribed.

    another idea: you could strategically use fine silver for the bigger ring, sterling for the tiny ring, so that the harder sterling is more likely to wear on the thicker fine silver ring. then it’s easier to replace the only big ring eventually and not have to refinish the entire piece when u repair it. plus the big ring, if it’s fine silver will less likely add wear and scratches to your chain. another plus

    But I can't understand the process of making the " jumber ".
    Why you twist the silver cable once and a half, then you cut the half? Isn't that a waste?

    • @williamallen7836
      @williamallen7836 5 лет назад +3

      It helps ensure you get a nicely shaped jump ring. The small bit can all ways be collected and sent back for refining to recover any lost money from the small bits. This should be done with all precious metals. They can be expensive and recovering your scrap hes ensure you are not wasting money.

    why aren’t you protecting the whole piece from firescale? and why not use a thicker jump ring so it lasts longer? just a thought. if the two rings are of a similar gauge (and same material) the wear should be less.

    Andrew I always love the projects you do and all I learn from you!! I do have a QUESTION please: when you complete the solder I hear you then say your popping the piece into the safety pickle. Do you not first quench the piece in water and the pickle is it just warmed Sparex2? Again thank you for the time and knowledge you share with us. Your so appreciated!!!

    • @Atthebench
      @Atthebench  4 года назад +1

      I just wait until the piece has cooled slightly. Then I just drop it straight away into the safety pickle. I don’t have time to quench in water and then drop it into the pickle and wait for it to do its job.

    Very nicely done. You truly know your craft. Is soapy water enough to remove excess flux also or do you need the acid u speak of? Thanks

    • @mellio9077
      @mellio9077 6 лет назад +1

      Peter Ford you just need hot water to remove flux, hot like pickle in a crockpot. the acid in the pickle removes the oxidation, the heat removes the flux

    Thank you!! Your tutorials are fantastic and thorough. I'm sort of anxious to buy the basics and give it a try. Is there a situation, where it is possible to melt the solder just by putting the flame on the third hand only? Thanks!

    • @tammygurl64
      @tammygurl64 5 лет назад +1

      @@Atthebench Sorry... let me re-word my question. Is it possible to melt the solder and also bond 2 pieces of silver without applying a flame to the silver itself? In other words, could you get it hot enough to solder/bond (via heat transfer) by applying the flame only to the 3rd hand and not to where the silver metal pieces join? IF you can do it that way, are there certain circumstances where it should be done that way (like with softer stones, maybe)? Thank you so much for responding.

    • @Atthebench
