I've found that, if you want to get rid of points coming from one point (0,0,0), then you need to copy beauty's alpha to position pass, and unpremult it. Kills those unwanted points. Another great video Hugo!
+Pavle Milićević That is a great tip mate.
That was savage with the "google that for you" tip :D
Great tutorial, man!
Haha, thanks mate.
That is a great idea to make a short tuts, I'm sure its gonna be very good series. Keep doing this, Hugo!
Thanks so much for the kind words. More to come Monday.
I love these short and sweet tutorials Hugo, keep 'em coming.
+Rob Meade Thanks mate. More to come. Already have 12 lined up for the next 12 weeks at least. Thanks
Thank you for taking the time to make such an excellent resource.
+Jamie Scott Thanks for the comment, and glad you like them. More to come next week. Have already 12 videos lined up.
+Hugo's Desk I look forward to viewing and sharing with my more advanced students.
So instead of importing the 3d models, you use the position pass to create a 3D point cloud...I would probably make the whole thing in Houdini
Awesome stuff you sharing, Hugo. Really appreciate it! Please keep them coming.
+Jason Huang Thanks so much, more next week.
Really nice tutorials ! Great idea! Thank you Hugo ♥
+Madalina Stelea Thanks so much
Hi Hugo, great series - loving your v/o too! :)
+Fearless Communications Thanks so much. Cheers
Amazing tip! Did not know this is possible, kinda makes deep exr useless to me, saving much file size. Thank you, Hugo!!!
I guess it is a trade-off. Deep probably still renders faster?
Love these series Hugo :]
+Mattias Sandelius Thanks so much. Glad you like them. Have 12 topics on my list so we are covered fro the next 12 weeks at least.
Thanks, it's amazing!
Great video! but i wonder how to get these elements properly displaced behind something, I know you can use cryptomatte but can we just use the position pass to cut out ? or should I just use deep ?thanks!
thank you for posting this. I know they must take time to make.
+MrBrN197 Not a problem, as long as people like them I will make them...Thanks
Man, how people can not like it? Again incredibly engaged, learned a lot.
+Henrik D'park Thanks so much. You will be surprised by some Internet Haters, lol
+Hugo's Desk Unbelievable, I offer such persons three months in Brazil for them to learn to complain less and to thank more.
I liked this a lot.. (loved it). Thanks for sharing
+kinzilla Thanks so much
Is this technique better than Deep pass?
Thanks for the video
Deep is better. Please note that this video was made a long time ago, before Deep was mainstream but it’s still a valid technique for productions that don’t use Deep.
Great tutorial, can the pointcloud also be created from the world positon pass in fusion 17?
Hugo's Desk will be live on Twitch tomorrow Sunday, 17th March from 15.00 GMT. This will part Two of a CG compositing Nuke workshop using a real production shot. Hope to see you there.

muito obrigado por dividir os seus conhecimentos! isso pra mim nao tem preço!🏆🇧🇷🤩
esta serie se ve muy interesante, felicitaciones!. espero ver mas XD
+Miguel Guerra Gracias Miguel. Thanks so much
Hi Hugo, thanks for sharing your 5' tuts are all amazing. Got a question for this one > is it possible to get this works on a spherical cam with moving cam/objects (VR + Relighting in mind) ? ++
Good question. In what sense you mean? The position pass is super slow frame by frame. What did you wanted to do?
I'm trying to get a good point cloud workflow for VR. I've never been able to setup a good one with a deep spherical image. Now with position pass I can setup a good point cloud preview but it's not deep so it's good for relighting but (in my test) not as good as I hope for adding 2D cards as I still need to render extra matte. Do you know if this can be done with deep too and if it's faster than position ?

No problem. More to come monday
Thank you Mr.Hugo. It help a lot. But would you please re-up the project files..guess it was broken. Thanks a lot.
Should be working now. Thanks so much for the kind words.
Thanks for sharing Hugo. I tried to follow the tutorial and found the project files link seems expired. Any change to re-up those files? Thanks again!
Hey, great tutorial! Do you ever have the issue of the camera flipping in nuke? Exporting as alembic file has the correct placement, but it flips the camera. I use an axis to flip it correctly, but is there a way to export it out of maya correctly? Thanks!
Thanks so much for watching. Never had this issue before but Maya is always a bit tricky. What Maya are you using?
I love you sir i am from india i like so much you video thanx sir
Thank you so much for your words of support.
Hi! Great tutorial, but when i connect the alembic camera from maya into scanline render, it's aiming for another complete different area. Still couldn't figure out what's causing this problem.
I've had similar, the point seem to be facing the opposite direction right? There's an easy fix for that.
How to render out the position pass in unreal engine?
I have a lot of knowledge in NUKE but still...I am not convinced to use it in project...for example now I really need to compose a lot of elements together - smoke, sand, a wizzard 'n stuff....but still for me faster in AE...
Ok, after watching it several times, I actually was able to do what you showed! So thanks a lot!

how to use blender cycles render AOVs in nuke
Just for the record, this is the RUclips video that you referred to in this video for more details: ruclips.net/video/agvKHYq4B2s/видео.html - on my todo to watch. Thanks for these. Not sure if you had ever made a playlist for this short series of "get better at".
01:41 When you google _what is a position pass_ it literally goes to this video which tells you to google it, hilarious internet irony though not very helpful.
Position Pass ~ X, Y and Z vectors encoded into the Red, Green and Blue channels respectively in 3D world space , similar concepts are UV pass or normal maps.
Let me google that for you hahaha.
video and information is great, but the attitude just ... yuk
Haha, that’s fine! I’m happy to be … yuk but informative! 😂
