You know what you're going to get with Ricky Gervais. It's Only words. He does a lot for charity, but doesn't go on about it. He's totally against animal cruelty, which he gives money to, he's a real humanitarian with a dark sense of humour, and also very intelligent. He uses shock stories to get a point across sometimes.
Yep, that was dark, particularly the last minute or so. It was also very funny. In my opinion. But humour is subjective so what do we expect? Some people will laugh, some people won't.

@@KendumWillie this whole joke originated from Karl Pilkington on their old XFM radio show. They were talking about charities, and Karl dropped the exact line “not another mouth to feed”. Credit to Ricky for the stand up talent but I’ve noticed the majority of Rickys jokes come from Karl - just said with a bit more sense

Hate people that ‘give’ donations on your behalf to absolve their own conscience and self esteem. If you want to donate just donate - don’t tie it to someone else’s present. How tacky.
I hate receiving gifts. When the dreaded bday comes up, i ask to give donation for me. Everybody's happy. Or so I thought until just now.
I guess i am tacky because I've given a few gifts to charity on behalf of friends to reciprocate. Am blessed with non tacky friends since not one of them ever complained about it.

I love when people gift me with a donation on my behalf. I don't need another soap and glory set or gift card.... but the family that receives the donation benefits so much more from that decision. If that makes me tacky in your eyes, I'm pretty happy with that.
Point is bring those hungry people where food grows and give them work for that food

Rather than giving gifts to people that are living more privileged lives, you gave them the satisfaction that someone underprivileged has been given something to help them improve their lives, instead of saddling them with some dust-collecter or another Xmas sweater. A rich man annoyed that another rich person gave the gift to a poor person instead of him is the tacky thing, when you think about it.
I know it's a comedy bit but when he mentioned the abandoned pets my blood started to boil. You know how many cats we have? Seven. You know how many cats we decided to go out and get? Zero. Six of them were just abandoned in the neighborhood. The seventh I found as a kitten one night driving around when I saw her next to another kitten that was kicking and thrashing around because someone had run it over and just kept going. It was thankfully dead by the time I got our of my car, so I put the dead one in a bag to bury and grabbed the other one so she wouldn't be hit. People treat them like objects and it makes me ill.

At a time when I had hardly any money, I bought really nice chocolates for a friend and gave them to him. I would have loved to have them myself. After Christmas I asked him what the chocolate had been like, and he told me that he had given all his Christmas presents away to the homeless. I should have kept the chocolate for myself!
