Well I don't know about you guys. But regardless of the negative connotations that you're putting onto Tosin because of his fashion style, I believe that the music speaks for itself and wins out at the end of the day. I've met Tosin before as well, he's a very humble, genuine, and real person. And regardless of what he wears, I think he's an innovator and a visionary, and I'm not even super into his band or shred study or anything of that sort. I just have respect.
I agree w/ your opinion ,& also want to add that Tosin rules in the techniques & music style he performs on the guitar . & again I applaud his taste fashion wise ,it is very refreshing to see a person getting away from the dark , goth ,raggedy cliches of the metal wardrobe...
I found this in my suggestions while watching Periphery... Boy was this NOT what I was expecting to hear. So awesome though, I am glad to have found this. Genius!
I discovered AAL within the last year and Tosin has easily become one of my favorite guitar players. It's exciting to think about what he'll be doing in the future. Truly an inspirational musician who is leading the way for the next generation of great players.
you notice how when hes answering questions, touching his guitar and itching to play another song? thats because he loves what hes doing and having fun. he may have practiced a shit ton but in the end its about fun. love tosin
Trying to learn really hard stuff, in my experience, can end up creating really useful and compelling exercises. For example, I tabbed out the tapping lick in the middle of Isolated Incidents some time ago and I practice it regularly. Even though I still can't play it well, making exercises out of parts of it has helped me write some vaguely similar tapping stuff on my own. So, even though it may seem impossible, it's a good idea to try anyway.
Personally love the way Tosin dresses. Its so great to see this guy walk on stage dressed really well and shred the fuck out of EVERYONE!! I hate the metal stereotypes, he basically breaks them all. Granted he isn't just a metal guitarist...he's a virtuoso.
At 30:29 I'm pretty sure he meant A# not Bb. Even though they are enharmonically equivalent it is diatonically incorrect. Just in case anyone was confused.
when I just listen to AAL songs I kinda vibe out because it sounds so fucking cool. I forget that Tosin is actually playing everything till I watch videos like this. Then I go cry in a corner because I'll be 217 years old before I'm that good.
I agree 100% with what you're saying 'sept for your "that's why they're called AaL"...they named it that because he wanted to portray how we are all essentially animals and that we can't let our anthropocentrism get ahead of us...but I also like your version :)
Not to mention he's also fucking hilarious. When I saw them, he says "the album comes out in two weeks. . . wait, actually, it comes out next week. But I bet most of you have it already. We love you anyway."
Can anyone suggest artists or bands that play this kind of music but a bit easier? I like this type of jazzy metal a lot but I can't play AAL songs yet.
holy fucking hell... i thought when i bought my 7 string i'd try out Tempting Time, but after fucking seeing this shit... omfg. it looks fucking impossible. i'm amazed... Tosin Abasi is something else.
you can thank all the funk bass and guitar players for his slap style.Victor Wooten was one of the first bassists to incorporate that style of playing on bass.
If you want easier stuff to learn, try some progressive jazz or jazz fusion and you can metal it up yourself. Check out the Dave Brubeck Quartet, and as Tosin mentioned, Allan Holdsworth.
@ZuperFreak01 Nevertheless, I think we can all agree his fashion style is pretty damn cool. He's just a cool ass dude and one amazingly talented individual!
I don't play guitar, but I love hearing Tosin talk about music. It's so informational, and he seems so honestly helpful and nice.
I love how even though he is so talented, when he starts playing an open string chug riff, you can still see a smile start to creep across his face.

I've just started to get into Tosin Abasi's music, but I'm really starting to like what I hear from him.
I sit in front of my computer and smile the whole time. man, i love this guy!
I found this in my suggestions while watching Periphery... Boy was this NOT what I was expecting to hear. So awesome though, I am glad to have found this. Genius!
i'm feeling kind off depressed today and watching this vid has made me feel better, thanks for the upload

najlepszy kolorowy grajacy na gitarze jakiego widzialem w zyciu !!
everytime i watch this i feel like i keep watching something historic...tosin is great
I can't believe this has only 49k views. This musician is phenomenal.
I discovered AAL within the last year and Tosin has easily become one of my favorite guitar players. It's exciting to think about what he'll be doing in the future. Truly an inspirational musician who is leading the way for the next generation of great players.
Tosins sweeps are sweet.
That song is a beauty. Also check out Images and End of the Beginning.
you notice how when hes answering questions, touching his guitar and itching to play another song? thats because he loves what hes doing and having fun. he may have practiced a shit ton but in the end its about fun. love tosin
i could listen to him play all day
Thanks for uploading!
Tosin is such a cool guy. Just the way he is and the way he dresses. All round cool guy.
Had the privilege to see these guys with Meshuggah this past year. Holy cow. Amazing freakin concert.
Tosin, you are my fucking hero. I cant stop listen to your stuff!

This is the best I've heard his guitar! Thank you for filming. You definitely captured great video and sound.
Dope, haven't finished watching it. But thus far it's insane. I love Tosin, Guthrie, Loomis, and Muenzner. Amazing guitarists!
I live in Brisbane and I missed Tosin being in town? What theaaaargh!!!!
RUclips has a stabilization filter that can filter the movements from the handheld camera. You might want to use it.
At 30:29 I'm pretty sure he meant A# not Bb. Even though they are enharmonically equivalent it is diatonically incorrect. Just in case anyone was confused.

I like the fact that his outfit goes with the guitar.
\m/ Brilliant, wish I could have seen him live! :) He's BEAST! haha
Yeah! Thanks....
I Don't think anyone fuses as many different elements into a song as melodically and smoothly as Abasi, The Debut album was beautiful
Thanks for uploading this :)
Damn! that Custom 8 is sick! how can you not like Ibanez. can't wait till i one day get my custom ibanez!!!
I love all of his heavy licks I wish I knew what tunning they are in haha
His arm muscles move like waves along with the song in perfect timing while he is tapping with both hands.
I'd love to see a Guitar Hero-version of this song! :)
I agree 100% with what you're saying 'sept for your "that's why they're called AaL"...they named it that because he wanted to portray how we are all essentially animals and that we can't let our anthropocentrism get ahead of us...but I also like your version :)
9:05-9:09: Your guitar playing causes me tension then a great release
amazing
Wow thanks man !
Tempting Time 1st song of eponym album :)
Love it when he points to someone off-stage and tells him to sit his ass down and listen to the magic.
he makes me want an 8 string guitar so bad, but i know im just not ready yet
Oh Tosin!
great upload mate
the guitar is one of the sexiest 8 strings ever ♥______♥
I like how he coordinated his outfit to match his guitar
This guy is insane!
I remember being so surprised that there wasn't a bassist the first time I saw them live
vai has even said tosin is amazing and that he's a legend. He said that he was incredibly impressed right to tosins face
i noticed this too. but when i saw him in houston he was rockin a super big white tee haha
No prob. Glad to help!
holdsworth
Veryyyy inspiring jazz musician
Not to mention he's also fucking hilarious. When I saw them, he says "the album comes out in two weeks. . . wait, actually, it comes out next week. But I bet most of you have it already. We love you anyway."

the part at 36:58 is beautiful
Always goes back to Meshuggah, doesn't it? (By the way, I'm getting an 8-string guitar because of Meshuggah's Koloss album)
holy fucking hell... i thought when i bought my 7 string i'd try out Tempting Time, but after fucking seeing this shit... omfg. it looks fucking impossible. i'm amazed... Tosin Abasi is something else.
tosin to G3!!!
Saw him just yesterday! Uploading some stuff now :)
To the guy who uploaded this: high five.
yes
Actually he is in Drop E or E, B, E, A, D, G, B, E. Standard tunning for 8-string guitar is F#, B, E, A, D, G, B, E.
that used to program the sequence of start of the topic Tempting Time? Help me Please!
you can thank all the funk bass and guitar players for his slap style.Victor Wooten was one of the first bassists to incorporate that style of playing on bass.
How about we all just listen to the guitarists we personally enjoy. Goddamn..
Was that homestar runner that asked him the question about chord vocabulary ~ 9:41 ?
"I got into 8-string guitars because of Meshuggah"
pretty much the best answer you can give
insane !
@KitRamsey1 no he dresses awesome
He's pretty good.
Tosin is already 3 in 1.
Anyone knows if Tobin also uses Ableton for creating synths, playing live etc?
I really need to know what part of his thumb makes contact with the string when he does the thumping technique
the outer edge of his thumb grazes the string
He is one of the best guitarists I have ever seen. Also why is it Misha gets his hands in evrything. I mean he is great too. But damn lol
google 'mel bay joe pass guitar chords'. i think the 5th site from the top has it displayed for free. thats a good book to start with.
lol i thought i'm the only guy that really2 like the way he dresses.....fucking classy, elegant, and gergous.....
If you want easier stuff to learn, try some progressive jazz or jazz fusion and you can metal it up yourself. Check out the Dave Brubeck Quartet, and as Tosin mentioned, Allan Holdsworth.
37:00-37:28. My mind was officially blown.
Lil Wayne is not in my recommended. You do know that it's based on your previous watched videos..
Fantastic. Thanks for posting this great video (and part 2).
8 strings?OMG this guy is EPIC!
@ZuperFreak01 Nevertheless, I think we can all agree his fashion style is pretty damn cool. He's just a cool ass dude and one amazingly talented individual!
anyone know what that stand he's using for the axe fx is called? can't find one anywhere.
which school he went in please? Thank you :)!
Check out Jason Becker, you won't regret it. Look up his song "Altitudes".
part @ 37.00 should be a song
Why does youtube have HD videos? Buffering forever always even with my swedish 100/100 fiber connection....
is tosin abassi the greatest guitarist of our time?...
What did he answer at the "favorite band" question????
Is it me, or does he have a guitar for every outfit?
Did anyone else see God while watching this?
is it me or is misha's influence getting into everything surrounding this genre now?
What did he answer at 15:00? couldn't understand it well.
I swear I hear somebody say "arrogant" right after Yngwie's name is mentioned at 7:32.
